  1. Fixed. Here's the raw link: http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=127386&highlight=purpose
  2. Here's another thread on the topic in the Statue Forum. My approach was: Get an idea that you can express in a couple of sentences - a theme if you will Gather reference for the characters and they way they should look - there must be a million Hawkman outfits, e.g., Find an artist to do the layout - I can recommend Matthew Clark - talented, fast, trustworthy Having the layout artist do the first character is optional in my opinion. Make a list of potential artists - if you have your heart set on a specific few, that's okay, but it makes the project even harder Chase it I doubt that I would let my jam leave the convention to be done at home (sketchbooks even more so). It doesn't hurt to have common supplies - pencils, erasers, handful of color markers if you want to color it a bit, etc. Here's the one that I have done. The full story can be read by clicking on the image.

  4. New Art Day - Sugar and Spike Meet Darth Vader by Jeffrey Brown Delighted with this $50 purchase to support the Cartoon Art Museum. Check it out and see the fake faux S&S 100 cover that I made from it. Also, they still are selling sketches here. Click here: I decided to make a fake Faux Sugar and Spike 100 Cover. Fake because it's all digital. Logo supplied by Dave Aikins, background characters stolen from a book cover, image from a scan of the original. 100 because S&S made it to 98 and DC later did a 99, but there's never been a 100 so while we wait I'm having these created. Probably this is the limit of my skills. Here's my collection of real Faux Sugar and Spike 100 Covers. Click on the image to see them.
  5. I love one-page stories. Sheldon Mayer had them in Sugar and Spike. I don't have one of those, but I have his demo "Sunday" strip which I feel qualifies. His covers for S&S were usually stories in their own right. Here's a preliminary that was not used.

  7. The only dealer list worth using is the one that Comic Art Tracker offers. It also has a list of artist websites and auction houses.
  8. On the list of things that I'd like is a commission by Tom featuring Batman, Spectre, and the Martian Manhunter.
  9. Keep your loved ones away from Tom Mandrake! He's turned my wife into a vampire! This is a perk from his Kickstarter - Kros: Hallowed Ground. It's a birthday gift. That's today, but we are celebrating tomorrow so don't tell her! Click the image to learn more.

  11. Good on you for sharing the increase with Tradd!
  12. Regarding Nick Pitarra's work, I think the thing that's holding him back has been the growth of his family and the interruption of Leviathan. The latter looked great. The former involved a sick child and definitely consumed a lot of his time and concentration. I look forward to him coming back because I really love his work. A commission that my wife had him do for our anniversary (Nov 2016). I had Mike Garland add digital colors. A favorite MP page because so much of the cast is in it, because they are on the moon and act like that's normal, and because there's a spacestation satillite circling the moon at low altitude. It was $1200 in the aftermarket in 2016. Click the image and you'll get a character key in the description. My CAF has the best descriptions.
  13. Re: Secondary Market Yes, most of book 2. Felix was (for the first time?) a reseller of art on the secondary market. Re: Have to sell My assumption (and, yes, I know what assume stands for) is that the buyer bought the issue so he could have his pick of pages and then offered the balance back for Felix to resell. Pretty smart if you have the cash to cover the float. I wonder if we'll see more of that strategy - buy the book, take the pages you want, resell the rest.
  14. Tremendous! If anyone else is interested in getting a piece from her, you can arrange it with Scott Kress at Catskill Comics. No, I'm not affiliated. I just think she does excellent work even at 93!
  15. The first Jarella story (IH 140 with plot: Harlan Ellison, -script: Roy Thomas, pencils: Herb Trimpe, and inks: Sam Grainger, cover: Trimpe(all)) is my favorite single Incredible Hulk story of all time (I'll admit to not having read Peter David's run). So much so, I got Herb to do a "one-minute later" (TM-Michael Finn).
  16. I'm around 21. Yeah, it's a smidge more than the third time around, but ...
  17. Next you need to buy a 3D printer and design tools and create it digitally.
  18. I try not to have mulitple pieces from a given artist unless the artist has multiple runs that I liked. Therefore, I have a lot of artists, but not a lot of choices by each. Still, this is fun: Curt Swan - Superman Sheldon Mayer - Sugar & Spike Joe Kubert - Sgt. Rock Stan Lynde - Christmas in Conniption Nick Cardy - Bat Lash Frank Brunner - HtD vs. DD Carmine Infantino/Frank Giacoia - Flash and The Enlongated Man I could go on, but this is enough.
  19. A friend reported a couple of broken links - say goodbye to dragonberry and the Comic Art Database.
