  1. That is a nice win! Chris and Team Cul de Sac often have gems like this at the Drink and Draw. I got my Mutts piece there a couple of years ago.
  2. Yes, yes you did! Frank's works is outstanding! and that Alan Davis guy isn't half bad either.
  3. I'm going. It will be our first trip to the con though I attended Brian Peck's OA Collectors dinner one year when I was in the area at the right time for work.
  4. Years ago, I bought a piece of art consigned to my LCS from an estate. It was framed in a very expensive frame, but I didn't like - my framing is very simple (black frame, double mat (white with a small colored rim within the white).Recently, I decided to unframe the piece since I'd never hang it. I took the opportunity to scan it and replace the old photograph that I had been using - it's much better now. If you like Warlord, Tara, and/or Mike Grell, take a look (click to embiggen):
  5. Tom Mandrake is one of the best at moody pieces and a Mandrake Batman is a wonderful thing. Congratulations. One my commission list is a Tom Mandrake piece featuring Batman, The Spectre, and the Martian Manhunter. He worked on all three and all three are gloriously moody. He reminds me of Gene Colan in a lot of ways and may be the only one "out there" with a similar approach.
  6. I thought it was a pretty nice example since it captured some of the weirdness of Tommy's experience. This is one of the pages where the "Harry Potter-ness" of the story is stronger. I thought when reading it that the series was just going to be a take off of HP, but, nope, HP just served as a way to give it a little context. Good book.
  7. Happy Birthday to me! I saw this at Comicpalooza while picking up art for a friend and really liked it as an example of one of my favorite series, but I decided to pass on it. I’ve bought too much of late and SDCC is coming. However, Kathy, my wonder wife, picked it up for my birthday. Very pleased to have an example from that series. Click to embiggen.
  8. Here's my standard restoration answer: In the many threads on paper conservation, the names that recur the most were: Robert Dennis agraphicstateofmind@verizon.net http://www.agraphicstateofmind.com/ http://www.agraphicstateofmind.com/comic_art_restoration_service.html Gordon Christman ggc2k@hotmail.com Gordon doesn't seem to have a web presence, but his snail mail address and phone number are: GORDON G. CHRISTMAN RESTORATION & CONSERVATION 330 SOUTH HORNE STREET #L OCEANSIDE CA 92054 TEL: 760 439 7970 CEL: 760 458 2290 Tracy Heft - Eclipse Paper trace@eclipsepaper.com http://www.eclipsepaper.com I would add that most major museums know of paper conservators. You might want to contact someone at a local museum and see if there is a conservator close to you.
  9. Could be. I was going by the Wikipedia and we all know it doesn't contain errors.
  10. Sophie not Sophia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie_Campbell
  11. I'm very pleased with Martin's work. I'm sure he'd ship if anyone is interested. Carlson Cabinetry and Woodworking908 Rasmus #6Houston, TX 77063+1.713.702.6298
  12. Benno, That is nothing short of wonderful. Congratulations!
  13. Though I had a piece with Mike Burkey that I paid off over time and it showed On Hold, IIRC.
  14. No way Dr. Kincaid would make a difference. AJ
  15. We normally go to ACCC and had thought that we'd drive over Friday for Friday evening and back Saturday night since Kathy works on Sunday. Sadly, work and real life interfered. Next year!
  16. Thanks guys. The piece was open in the shop for more than two weeks before it came to my place. There's no odor at this point. I will leave the doors open though and look into the microchamber paper.
  17. There are lots of construction pictures on the FB page, but you aren't really missing much other than this description: I hate to think how much it weighs. The cabinet by itself strained two people and the top was even heavier. At least the floors don't groan.
  18. Exactly. Does link require you to log into FB? Here's the final piece with the cabinet maker (Art and Artist) Carlson Cabinetry and Woodworking908 Rasmus #6Houston, TX 77063713.702.6298
  19. New Art (Storage) Day Check out my new art storage purchase! https://www.facebook.com/alxjhnsn/media_set?set=a.10209324767380077&type=3&pnref=story
  20. I enjoyed it a lot and that's why I posted mine.
  21. My pleasure, I enjoy doing it. The con was good, but the comic part was a lot less than the palooza part.
