  1. (2)STAR WARS #1 "A NEW HOPE" CGC 9.8! WHITE PAGES! FIRST PRINT! KEY! MARVEL 1977 Pre-Owned $11,000.00 Buy It Now
  2. Will see how this ends tonight. I wouldn't mind scooping up that 266 9.9 for some extra registry points.
  3. You're right. I think some were predicting $300K and up. I posted that listing kind of as a reference point to contrast hammers on more modern unique slabs. I have found personally some good value with late GA/early SA mid grade slabs in 5.0 range that present really well and are decent in terms of cost basis.

  6. I'd really like to see that IH 181 CGC 9.9 make an appearance now.
  7. Incredible. Gives you some perspective. This thread was started nearly a year ago and I have a bunch of comics on my watch list that are fetching higher highs presently.
  8. In this market, had that 361 been a newsstand, you are looking at a six figure book . Fun fact, I believe that is the highest multiple ever for a 9.9 hammer vs. what the 9.8s fetch.
  9. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #361, CGC 9.9 MT, HIGHEST GRADED, 1 OF 3 1992, 1st Full Appearance of Carnage. Current Bid: $52,000 Number Of Bids: 71
  10. Very impressive grades on the Midnight Sons issues as most likely they spent a good amount of time residing inside production sealed polybags. Can't believe we are now at the near 30 year anniversary mark on these!
  11. 70s/early 80s was my favorite time period for ASM so decided to put together a slabbed run. First acquisition completed.
  12. This is succinctly well put. For me the genesis of my VHS collecting all these years was never because I thought nor had a vision that I could slab them and sell/buy for uber high prices. It's merely another nostalgic portal for me to preserve and relive memories from a great time period now long ago. There is something from an historical artifact perspective that is personally appealing to me about slabs/cases for all of my collectibles. And I will reiterate similar to comics, toys etc. same applies for VHS, LDs and so forth. It's not always about that end-game or actual experience of watching the movie. Rather the anticipation, excitement, stories, people, events that took place leading up to it. During this time period when video rentals first came about and/or the cost went down to an affordable critical mass price point to purchase; it was a pretty big deal because your only viewing option before this was really renting a VHS movie or waiting/hoping for it to debut on HBO. At some point in the late 80s I want to say PPV was also in the mix but say late 70s/early 80s if you wanted to actually buy a popular/new release VHS movie (not a closeout) I want to say you would be looking at $100+ cost.
  13. Indeed content is king. Depending on which stage of the HD revolution you joined you still basically didn't have much of a choice but to go with bluray. I remember when 4K first came out; my first concern was what kind of content I would have access to. In contrast, beta had better resolution, better sound quality, more stable imaging and the hardware mechanically and quality wise was superior to VHS. So way back in the day as early adopters we actually had Betamax; it was not uncommon in those beginning days especially, to find this format in households.
  14. Sony made some great moves early on. When they implemented full DTS-HD Master Audio lossless support; their PS3s were better options than half of the limited bluray player market at that point in time.
  15. Thanks for mentioning this and that is a key point. FYI I am running this on the latest macOS Monterey V12.1 and it works brilliantly.
  16. A few more. On certain slabs/angles you get a little more glare on the sides. But I have still have yet to contrast scanning say in a completely dark room vs. day time etc.and tinker with settings. Regardless this is good enough for me. I honestly only got this to chronicle my slabs for my registry sets.
  17. The Aura X Pro brand new currently on sale for $299. Regular price is $359. The key to this hardware is the mounted side LED lights. This device is also portable and can be easily carried in a backpack etc. https://shop.czur.com/products/aura?variant=28598213017648 Here is another pic of the older style slab. This is completely raw and unfiltered. There are numerous other picture modes/filter options etc. that I have yet to tinker with.
  18. I ended up going with another model in that CZUR line. For $250-$350 budget; this is unbeatable for the value. It's completely silent which is perfect for me given I can't scan until late at night. Additionally you can scan hands free with this hardware. Here is a slab with a tough cover to scan.
  19. Especially this part well said; hence I won't be shelling out $15K for a VHS slab, so don't worry about that. I am a hoarder of sorts and just over the years have accumulated various VHS, LDs and LPs for that matter. I actually still have most of my movie ticket stubs from the 80s and 90s in a couple of puma boxes. I think in any marketplace where you have such a tight supply you really have to navigate very strategically and tactically. Slabbed video games are a similar phenom to characteristics you described. Allot of my personal video games slabs were pieces I had accumulated or slabs I have traded for are among collectors I know. But regarding the display case setup you alluded to; I have found this to be an incredible nostalgic artifact of sorts. When I wanted to put together MOTU and vintage SW runs, high end NM/MT graded pieces were just too costly so you can actually just buy the empty AFA slab case for a pittance of the cost and then place in your particular 12 backs or 8 backs etc. ungraded. I'm fine with that.
  20. @Sauce Dog I kid you not; I can remember vivid details like yesterday seeing this opening weekend. Went in with mediocre expectations and had no idea what was on deck. BTW I get the fascination with the sealed VHS current phenom. It's yet another pathway to a place where we ache to go back to and somehow our memories are perpetually preserved in these plastic casings to relive over and over again. Some of the best moments in my collectible past as a kid are the ones leading up to the actual getting or the long waited anticipation leading up to Xmas or a birthday before I opened the video games or toys.
