  1. Grades as expected? Grades were pretty good. About what I expected. Had a 9.6 go to 9.8 so that's good. A 9.4 go to 9.6 (I knew 9.8 would be pushing it). A 8.0 go to 9.0 which is as I expected 9.0 to 9.2 range. Just glad it bumped up since it is a Stan sig. Probably won't do anymore Stan sigs unfortunately. So the infamous "new graders" did not lay waste to your submission. Good to hear, sounds more like 1-2 people just being cranky about their grades, hope my submissions go as planned.
  2. 3/23 Scheduled for Grading Hope I didn't send these in too soon to get the new cases. Or the new graders My last (2) submissions were fine and were GA, SA, and Moderns.
  3. 9.8 contender got a 9.4? It was a X-Men 244 that I bought on the boards as a NM+. Maybe it was damaged in transit? I'll take a look when it comes in. I'm concentrating more on the 3 9.8 Killing Jokes, 2 CGC 9.8 Catwoman 51 & the CGC 9.8 Lucifer 1. Got it. That stinks, I had a staple get blown in grading my last submission, at least this time it wasnt a 9.8
  4. My modern submission has been a SFG for at least 7 days.
  5. So you would consider things to be "normal" regarding the assigned grades?
  6. Thanks Billy, I am back for sure. Needed some time to get the career going full steam. Now I can enjoy some funny books again!!
  7. So since it was being discussed, my 5 book economy grades were as such. Book 1. My grade 5.0, CGC 5.5 Book 2 My grade 3.0, CGC 2.5 (now has popped staple...) Book 3 My grade 6.0, CGC 6.5 None of those books had been pressed. Book 1 My Grade 5.5, CGC 6.5 (I detracted more for some ink smudge, GA EC) Book 2 My Grade 6.5, CGC 7.5 Those books are both GA and I probably just am not as familiar as I am with SA to Modern. My results are not showing harsh grading, but right on point.

  10. I think the difference between a 9.6 and 9.8 on some books is the graders mood and way the light hits the book at the time its graded. I don't think they want to type "because I say so" in the graders notes. Could be a blemish, smudge, miscut, eye appeal. I would guess all defects are graded different.
  11. Grade that flaw like they have always graded that flaw, not tighter than they have always graded that flaw. Tight grading isn't the issue, changing grading standards is the issue. +1 I am not trying to convey any sense of entitlement...I am just commenting on the new staff, new TATs, and the common experience of a "tight" grading cycle and suggesting these things may be related. I asked about moderns as there have been comments about modern grading being more strict than other eras so I think it is important to discuss what types of books are being graded "tightly" so that the information in more easily understood. The only thing anyone is entitled to are validity and reliability. Both seem possibly in question at the current time and I think it worth exploring that a little more in depth. If they were not tight/loose in cycles you wouldn't get resubs.
  12. I think a lot of guys gamble with books that may have a small CB crease that is hard to spot, maybe two? There are also a ton of new pressers out there so I would bet that results may vary.
  13. You were fortunate. Imho, this last year has been the tightest CGC has ever been on Moderns - I do a ton of SS books where I crack out 9.8s and I've never experienced this many grade drops upon resubmission. I like tight grading as much as the next guy, but I feel they've moved the needle way too far in the other direction now. Out of about 100/120 books submitted last year I had (2) 9.6s. So I haven't seen it yet, hopefully I don't. Are you subbing mostly moderns? Late bronze, copper for the most part. Not too many post 2000 books.

  15. I sent in 3 books expected 9.8s, all 3 got 9.8s.. They were shipped last week, so I don't think grading is tight
