Great info! You remain The Man!

Wow.
It's like it's not even real.
-
Yes, SHE has, and as we speak 140,000 little Monstros with no natural enemies are positioning themselves thruout the planet, each one due to hit their growth spurt right about now.
Write us out of that one, Stan.

Great book. I miss my spares!
-
Now we're back to reality! My ST 78 looks like a cat was mad at it.
And Johnny, nice books. I think Strange Tales 67 is an under-loved gem!
-
I scored a very nice TOS 59, and everything went great! I'd do it again in a minute!

Goes to show, images from 3 of the top Str.Tales PH collections, that St 83 ranks as one of the most difficult issues in HG. No 9.0, 9.2 or 9.4's on this one.
Strangely, in my ratty PH collection, Strange Tales #83 is one of my better examples. A raw Fine/Fine +.

I know where they aren't!

LOVE the #121

Magnificent group!

Very cool DP!
-
That rings true!
Jack never wanted people to be out of work.
-
I didn't look at them all, but the covers of 1 and 2 are Kirby and Ditko, not Buscema, so I don't know what those names mean!
Cool source, tho.

Nice copy!
Welcome to the Boards!

Thanks, and BTW, sorry about this.
We might let the OA guys see this. Some of those people are scary smart about stuff like this. And have very sharp eyes.I did not mean to imply that you aren't an "OA guy". You most certainly are!

It would appear that Jack redrew it from looking at the TTA, but its unusual in that I really can't think of another example of Jack swiping from himself (especially within 6 months of original publication)
...and that's what I found curious. It's obviously not the same, but is Monstrom pure Kirby? The rest of the cover surely is, and it makes zero sense for Kirby to draw the setting and not the monster. But looking at the right arm, the right hand, and back of the neck, I could almost believe that Stan gave Ayers (?) the Astonish art and asked for some re-working.
There's something going on tho. Good eye, Bronty!

why did he copy the pose, that's not like Kirby to do. It's almost exactly the same right down to the way the hands are posed.

Agree. They really cut loose!

I'll cleanse your horror pallets with a hero book.

Kirby drew the best.
I may have done some editing there.

Congrats, V! #7 was my first single-digit FF. I felt like an archeologist!
That amazing splash of the team descending thru that futuristic city-scape blew me away.

That is pretty.
Pre- Hero Marvels!!!!
in Silver Age Comic Books

They're tough if you stick to high grades (in this case, fine or better), but they're just the perfect amount of work for bottom-feeder completists like me. Not everywhere, so you don't get bored with the lack of challange; and not so soul-crushingly scarce as to make you surrender.
I get what you're saying. I just wouldn't want to discourage any prospective pre-hero collectors out there. Putting my pre-hero runs together continues to be the most enjoyable aspect of my collecting activities. If these books are of interest to you, jump in.
