  1. ... What's the mix of stories inside? Inside? That's right, you're one of THEM! ... Captain Stand-In Jack What is this one like? Hero of the second stringer? Champion of the not quite good enough to be first? A Hollywood stunt-man gets revenge on the Nazi pilot that tortured him during WWII. The last page says that it's a continuing feature, but it seems like all the loose ends are tied up in one tale. Jack That sounds kind of sweet. I would never have guessed that origin based on the name but it makes sense.
  2. Bah! Not even a wooden coaster. What's the mix of stories inside? Inside? That's right, you're one of THEM! Big Town adaptation Flicker Funnies (parody of Gone w/ the Wind -- where have I seen those before?) Johnny Danger of the Screenland Patrol. Adaptation? I don't think so. Not bad looking. Filmographs (text) Wolfred gag Captain Stand-In Garret McBard gag Mitzi of the Movies, GGA mystery Jack What is this one like? Hero of the second stringer? Champion of the not quite good enough to be first?
  3. It has been like that since at least the 37th ed. (That is the oldest one I still have).
  4. I think these are good questions, I want to know too. (thumbs u
  5. Kudos to Airwalker for a great CGC set of the Wolverine Limited Series. Books arrived fast and were packed great. Thanks!
  6. Kudos to R1970D for a great CGC set of the Punisher Limited series and War Journal # 1. I would buy from him again, great packing. Thanks Roy!
  7. BTW, you did post a Superman #1 vs Hulk #1 a few days ago didn't you?
  8. Man that is tough. I don’t know anything about the scarcity of either one of the books. On the one hand you have an uber high grade, white paged, church book with a great cover. On the other hand you have a first issue, highest graded (and still HG for GA) , with 1st appearances and in my opinion an even better cover. I have to go with the Adventure and I have no idea why. Not like I can afford either one.
  9. Oh and AA16 on the new question. Such a rare book it would be hard to choose anything over it as who knows when you would get another shot. I don’t think that Adventure 40 is as rare, but I could be mistaken.
  10. Whats going on here??? The last I saw there was a contest between Double Action and Batman 6. Post must have been deleted. There was a choice of Superman #1 (in 4.0 I think) and an 8.5 Hulk 1. I had not seen the thread active in some time and it was a new post so I replied. I am 99% sure it was a new post from Steve but...
  11. Superman # 1,that’s not even a contest. Far more important character, far more important book.
  12. 20 has always been one of my favorite covers. That one puts my lowly 4.5 to shame. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Kudos to Bubbagump for the great books! Shipped fast, and packed nice. Thanks for the freebie too!
  14. Kudos to mschmidt for 4 great bronze x-men slabs. They got here in great shape due to his bomb-proof packing!
  15. how many 9.9 and 10.0 books are there from the SA vs BA vs CA/Modern? As far as modern books go...9.9 is the new 9.8.. That's not true, through - if you look at the modern books that are coming back 9.9 and 10.0 (Locke & Key, Invincible, etc) they are pretty much consistently ones where the cover is printed on a heavier, glossier cardstock which lends itself really well to those uber-high grades. In comparison, try finding a recent issue of Uncanny X-Men or any other book printed on regular cardstock in that high of a grade ... Virtually_Here: That's a silly argument - true acid-free boards & mylar bags are scientifically proven to halt the decay of paper. I'm not saying that that's the only way to preserve comic books - the stacks that Church used seem to work just fine as well - but claiming that bags & boards don't make a difference is ridiculous.
  16. Kudos to JmC for a great X-Men # 100 CGC 9.0 that arrived fast and was packed great.
  17. I have to agree DA all the way, that said that Batman is one heck of a book.
