Looking for Advice - Fed Ex Lost My Comic
Mutant Manatee replied to conan09279's topic in Comics General
Isn't that the only option, besides hand-delivering the item yourself? -
That's where I first became familiar with his work. Because of that, I took those issues for him to sign at Wizard World Chicago in 2006. He went on and on about how awful they are. Granted, he was a Kirby clone back then and his work hadn't fully developed yet. I still love those issues, even if he didn't. :-)

Nothing to worry about, it happens to me probably once a week. They're always back within 15-20 minutes.

The "require immediate payment" option is something that the seller can turn on or off when they create the listing. It only applies to Buy It Now.

What (if any) are the Holy Grails of the Atlas/Seaboard line?
Mutant Manatee replied to NoMan's topic in Comics General
Here too, with the exception of Vicki. Those issues seem to go for $15 to $30 each in decent condition, and even more $$$ in high grade. -

I don't think there are really any grails as far as the comic books. Some of the magazines seem to be more scarce and therefore bring higher prices. -
Another non-paying bidder. peve9089 Looking through his recent feedback I see that he has done this to at least five other sellers.
-
I thought of that too, but I have no idea if that PayPal option is available in Mexico, or if this person would qualify.

yetr_45 This buyer bid my item up to $500. It ended yesterday. Today I received this message from him. Zero feedback and located in Mexico so I was afraid something like this would happen.

I can actually see how that could happen accidentally. Perhaps he had been researching the internet to verify what he had and saved that image to his phone for comparison, then when he listed the comic on eBay he accidentally included that photo. This scenario is more likely if he created the listing while driving. I'm not sure if he actually did that, but he definitely took some of the photos while driving. (Illegal in many states but I'm not sure about Louisiana or Mississippi.) Perhaps in his excitement over what he thought he (possibly) had, he created the listing in haste.

Great story! In my 47 years of collecting I've never encountered a 35 cent variant in the wild. I'm sure your friend doesn't feel so bad about the stack he got now!

John Romita Sr. passes away at age 93.
Mutant Manatee replied to Terry JSA's topic in Comics General
Such an indisputed giant in the field. His work spoke to me in a way that's difficult to describe. It was just brilliant. I only met him once, at San Diego in 2006, and he signed two comics for me. He was just as nice as everyone says. R.I.P. to a legend! -

Ah, gotcha.

Can't buyers still leave negative feedback even if you don't offer returns? I always offer 30-day returns as it is a requirement to keep a Top Rated Seller status and therefore receive 10% off of the final value fees.

I had Fighting Front #2 and #3 in my hands and you commented that I almost had the full set. (If I'm thinking of the right person.) I ultimately decided not to purchase #2. Yes, Mark Scott was on the corner in the dark area. I think I was at his booth when you spoke to me. Here is a photo of him and me:

Great report, thanks for starting the thread! I was there too, I made the 1 1/2 hour drive from Robinson, Illinois. Although I was somewhat pressed for time I managed to pick up some gold. I, too, was impressed with the selection and the prices. There was pretty much something for everyone at this show as far as comic books go. I made the majority of my purchases with one dealer, Mark Scott. I was thrilled to pick up a Masked Ranger #9 which is a scarce book with artwork by pretty much the entire Fleagle Gang. That book alone made the trip worthwhile for me. This was my first experience with this show but I will definitely be returning in the future!

The Wankiest Article Ever Written - Arthur Suydam
Mutant Manatee replied to Cat's topic in Comics General
When it was first suggested on the CGC forums that the lines of people were photoshopped, Renée Witterstaetter actually showed up here and stated something like, "If you think those photos have been altered you aren't very intelligent." (I'm paraphrasing, but that was the essence of her comment.) Then, when the internet sleuths here found the source photos and posted them she tried to blame the whole incident on an overzealous intern who had created the altered photos without her knowledge or consent. Yeah, right. I lost all respect for Suydam and Witterstaetter after that.
