  1. My thoughts with a little spoiler. I know the first issue of the first book has been out for some time, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone else that hasn't read it.

In the first issue, the oldest son completely lost himself in violence trying to protect his siblings/family and witnesses his mother's violence in trying to protect her family. What made it worse was that the two men/teenagers that attacked his parents were his friends and said the reason they did it was because he asked them too... in a manner of speaking.

The story struck a chord with me because I've been pretty violent in the past trying to protect my family and would do so again.

The supernatural element at the tail end of the story left me intrigued

  2. There are only 49 copies of the Larry's graded. that's a pretty low number if the book was a high print run, especially compared to other printings.

And I don't know if that includes the Guillory signing that I accepted several copies of this book to be SSed plus had some SSed as well, so if/when the census is updated there may be duplicate copies(I'm pretty sure I returned the labels with the books though).***

    Two from me ;)

Look, I understand people have an issue with the source, and hopefully those concerns can be alleviated. Larry has been aggressive in trying to provide a product that people can get interested in and has offered some great opportunities as well- the Charles Wilson III signing, and the rescheduled Rob Guillory signing (which was originally supposed to happen with the release of the variant, got rescheduled and was a lot of fun). I have also been involved in this process and am comfortable making concrete statements about print runs and such.

From my standpoint, my thoughts weren't based on any opinion of the source what-so-ever. This book was the first purchase I ever made from Larry's and I didn't hear of other peoples' opinions until after that. Again, just a perception thing on how many of them I've seen for sale, but I understand both your and Jerel's points.

***On a separate note, I received the books back this week and have to go through them thoroughly, there were some cracked slabs in the shipment from CGC. :(

    Damn CGC :frustrated:

  3. I'm not knocking the Larry's Variant, but there's got to be more than 1000 of them.

    Based on what?

I am confidant that the print run is the advertised 1000 copies. I am involved in dealing with Larry's variants (started in 2009) and would not make that claim if I felt otherwise. If you want to question my word on it (which is absolutely your prerogative) and have information I should know about, I'm all ears.

I'm not trying to insult you on this or question your word. It's just the perception I got knowing just how many copies of that book have passed through my home either to me or on their way to others, the amount that have been for sale on these boards, and the amount that have been available on eBay. The perception presented is that either the print run was higher than 1K or there has been a lot of churn on that specific book.

You've never done anything to make me doubt your word, so I'll assume that it's the latter and that there has been a large churn rate on that specific book.

  4. pls let me know if you can find a chew #2 third print in 9.8 condition...

too late... I already claimed it way back when in this thread :baiting:

the #2 3rd print has been a beast to find in 9.8

Does that mean someone wants a #2 3rd 9.6 SS? hm

This someone has one on the way (thumbs u

hm When is that damn ups truck going to get here...

  5. I'm officially banned from ever buying comics from the web site mycomicshop, The owner told me over the phone that mycomicshop is the biggest in the world.. I told him that the people who packed the books needed to be fired..

That's the LCS here in Ft Worth and they really tick me off sometimes. Many times if you go to their online store the day a book is released, they will have "nm" copies for cover price on a 2.99 title, but have 'NM+" copies for $10 on THE DAY IT IS RELEASED...

  6. The Larry's is a later printing. It was not released at the same time as the regular #1. The Registry lists it as "Chew #1 limited edition" but it's basically just a glorified reprint. Only with a B&W cover and a doofy logo on the front. :P

i thought it was still considered a 1st print variant and not a later print?

Shouldn't a first print variant be printed and solicited at the same time as the first print?

Shouldn't it really be called a retailer incentive variant? :baiting:

  7. From CBR RE: Walking Dead TV Show

Robert Kirkman's acclaimed zombie epic just took one more step towards a fully-fledged life on the small screen.

Variety is reporting that the AMC Network has greenlit a pilot for a "Walking Dead" TV series after reviewing the screenplay adaptation submitted by "Shawshank Redemption" director Frank Darabont. While the step does not ensure that fans will see a full show inspired by the Image Comics series hit the cable airwaves, the fact that a pilot will be committed to film for the channel known for high quality original programming such as "Mad Men" is a good sign for fans of the series.

When Kirkman spoke to CBR about the AMC deal last September, the writer said that a TV adaptation was "the only thing that really makes sense to me. The thing that makes 'The Walking Dead' unique and interesting is that it's a zombie movie that never ends – that's the log line or whatever. To do a zombie movie that's based on that? Kinda dumb."

Kirkman went on to say of Darabont's involvement with the project, "I think a really good indication that he's going to handle the series really well is his recent movie, 'The Mist.' A lot of people don't realize that Frank is a genre guy – he wrote 'The Blob,' he wrote 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.' He got his start doing horror stuff and he's a huge horror and sci-fi fan. He's been going to Comic-Con every year just for fun, whether he's putting a movie out or not. He kind of lives this stuff. If you watch 'The Mist,' you'll see that he can do the character development – he's an excellent writer – but 'The Mist' is a big indication that he knows how to handle the subject matter."

According to Variety, the pilot's development will include famed genre producer Gale Anne Hurd ("The Terminator," "The Incredible Hulk"). The network also greenlit a pilot for an adaptation of a Danish crime drama called "The Killing." However, at this point no casting announcements have been made for either show.

  8. Considering Rob does all of the pencils, inking, and colors, I am absolutely amazed that he and John are able to get this book out every month. It seems very respectful of readers in a medium that has become accustomed to consistent delays in getting material out in a timely manner.
