  1. I consider 9.0 books both acceptable AND placeholders, as I will most likely update these copies at some point in the future. As my grading has improved, I am now raising the bar on acceptable grades from CGC. In fact, I just submitted 30 Moderns recently with no pre-grade, so I'm now grading "without a net" to test how improved my pregrading has become.

BTW, IMHO, I think grading has become strict again, as my 9.0s look better than most encapsulated 9.4s out there!!!! As I've learned some of the minute discrepencies between 9.0 and 9.4 I'm slowly accepting the fact that it's not worth banging your head (and your pocketbook) to get the 9.4+ grades on some of these books.

HoM, on the other hand, is a totally different matter insane.gif

Ya Sterling gradign will always be subjective and with the amount of books that CGC sees there will always be phases from strict to less and back and forth etc, etc

  2. Mike has definitely got a point with respect to the Artwork - IMO the best pure art in the BA is DC Horror. However the Superhero collectors, while attached to the artists, especially Neal Adams - are still superhero collectors. There are no identifiable characters in DC Horror. I know Doug was screaming it from the rooftops and I respect Doug's opinion - I still think that all dealer proclaimations in teh OS guide need to be taken with a grain of salt.

I still see the same bidders competign with me in Ebay and in other venues and I have actually seen less presence of a few of the guys that drove the prices up in the last 2 months. They probably have their 1-2 copies and have moved on. DC BA Horror is a grass roots movement in the hobby. There will be no movie, or popular culture extraneous circumstance to bolster the market - thank god for that.

And finally I still point to the Pre-Code stuff that has now seen a huge levelling off, besides the key issues. Ask the pre-Code guys about the demand verses price of the filler issues. Take into account that there is more BA than Pre-Code and I think Mr. Sulipa's comment while apt for the moment must be tempered with real time knowledge of the limits of DC BA Horror.

Even though I hate to use specifics to generalize - being a BA Horror Guy I still do not go outside the 4 core titles IE HOS, HOM, WWBN and TOD. A few books here and there, but I don't think that the number of completionists for the Witching Hour will ever approach Spiderman or X-Men levels or even 5% of those levels to be realistic.

I also bought two FF#52s recently. I still need an ASM#52. I had to send back a raw VF/NM that I bought recently because it was overgraded. gossip.gif

  4. juggle.gif I'm kinda torn on this one - I love all the scans, but seeing all the covers that I've never seen before, especially the Charltons makes me buy more comics.

Oh, and I have to give props to the 2 latest additions to the HG raw HOM run that has been 3 years in the putting together.

the 290 came courtesy of Red Beard Comics thumbsup2.gif

and surprise surprise the 224 is one of Greggy's cast offs. thumbsup2.gif

  5. Ya Pov saw it at WonderCon and agreed that it was a 9.6 for sure. There is one spine stress that does not break color, the LLC looks a lot worse in the scan than in person you could slice bread on the other 3 corners, Even though I bought more expensive books at WonderCon it was my Cherry Pick for Friday morning before the public got there. cloud9.gif

This one's never coming out. cloud9.gif

  6. It's amazing Kirby is considered in such high regard when he put out covers like that Thor #168. Yuck. crazy.gif

  7. Who says Wonder Woman has no place on this thread? This is probably the only book I think I overpaid for at $35. Just had to have it. Don't see too many of these nice copies around.

SId that's one of those books you just buy if you see it. Its like one of the hail.gif books for WW and horror collectors. Put it this way, I own a copy and wasnt specifically on the look out, but if I had seen it for $35 it would still be in CA as opposed to WA - nice pick up congrats.
