  1. What stores in the USA have quality vintage that you can see in person? By quality I mean the most sought after classics and keys in higher grades. They seem to be a rare breed. Over the years I find many stores have morphed into small scale warehouses of modern junk. I know the cons are a good venue for eye candy, but I'd prefer a dealer that you can chat and bargain with, especially if they are willing to trade.
  2. Thanks for the link - long but interesting read. I went to his store in Hartsdale, NY. Are there any cool stores nowadays that carry a bunch of nice keys and books onsite, or is that a thing of the past?
  3. What transpired regarding Danny? I never had any further contact with him afterwards.
  4. When I was 11 years old, a cool aunt of mine gave me a copy of the Overstreet Price Guide for my birthday. The 1986 edition for the 25th Marvel Anniversary. I had a small collection at that point. The most compelling page was an ad for Fantasia, a comic shop in Yonkers, NY. In this ad he displayed a showcase with multiple copies of Action 1, Superman 1, Detective 27 and other Golden Age keys. I used to stare at that picture for long periods of time. A few years later we went to visit some family who lived in White Plains - I made sure we were going to visit his store since we were in the area. It was a small store, and the big keys were only displayed on weekends. He had some cool baseball items including a ball signed by Babe Ruth. Daniel Dupak was the name of the owner as I recall. I purchased a FN copy of Batman 120 for $20. The thrill of the hunt was on.
  5. After selling some slabbed comics with them, I plan to ship some more their way. Their professional communication and fast payment make them hard to beat. Purchasing from them has always been smooth too.
  6. Good to know that they will provide back cover scans. I agree with the OP that it is essential to see both sides of an item. Same goes for cards or any other collectibles.
  7. Have to agree. And nothing more fun than taking a minty book out and seeing it up close.
  8. Worked for me. Had to select the payment method first and then I could apply the coupon.
  9. Pretty decent promo. If you don't see one in your inbox, check the promotions folder. That's where a lot of my Ebay messages end up.
  10. I don't mind minor imperfections on the side or back of the slab, though I prefer a nice, shiny new slab. Not a deal breaker for me. What's crucial is that the comic has been accurately graded and presents well in the slab. If the price is right, a slight defect on a slab is fine.
  11. I think it would be profitable if they had multiple services likes cards and comics at a Canadian location. Once the word got out with strong marketing and consumer confidence was high, it would do very well. Plus that would cut down on the number of submissions to Sarasota.
  12. I have an active membership for another few months. I may renew it, though I am not sure, as I may submit everything that I need to for the foreseeable future. If I submit all of my comics prior to my membership expiring this fall, is it OK to let it lapse and still receive your books after expiration in case of a backlog? Just wanted to confirm what the official rule / policy is on this.
  13. Certain issues in high grade will still fetch a nice price. The entire run has some excellent cover art.
  14. Thanks for compiling the list. Not a Marvel, but there's a Warren Vampi 19 in 9.9 recently listed on Ebay. Seller listed it at $4500 solo and then combined it with #1 for this listing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/285216799005
  15. Also with the price drop coming for mags in May that they just announced, there could likely be a wave of submissions creating a significant backlog.
  16. Interesting. Makes me question if they are rushing through the backlog or if they hired more graders and support staff.
  17. I was curious and asked the question based on the difference between modern comics and the earlier service tiers. I recently received a modern order shipped out 5 days after CGC received it.
  18. I've got 'em along with the Marvel set. Mine are both marked up as a handy want list reference. I remember reading about an offer that a wealthy collector made to the community, where he wanted to buy every comic in the Gerber guides. Couldn't find the article.
  19. I'm curious as to why you want to trade down on these books? What would you expect to trade down in exchange?
  20. Are the turnaround times about the same for modern vs economy? It says 175 days now for both tiers.
  21. Good as place as any to consign with. If a Nintendo mag can go for over $20K, I would think my estimate might even be somewhat conservative.
  22. Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19 above is now slated for auction at Comic Link. How high will the bidding go? I would guess about $12K on this mag.
  23. Will post a more detailed list soon. Also have a lot of raw or slabbed comics for trade/exchange too.
