    The lack of characters is a big negative. The storyline is a big positive. I think the sig and doodle are cool as well. Normally I don't think they matter, but in this case they help, and could make it desirable as a "one-and-done" page for the numerous collectors who want a representative piece. I say put it in HA or CLink.

    Gene's is Best page in the book IMO. Sure, the page before is an iconic half splash that is used for the cover scene, but Gene's has zero weak panels, a great front shot of Wolverine, and a shot of Wolverine using his claws. Oh, and it's got the "snikt" for those who care about that. The page at auction is great, but it's a class below these two:

    Disagree. Hulk 181 has been on t-shirts and included in poster packs etc. at Target and other places over the years. It's been the packaging artwork on action figures.... There have been reprints of it for Free Comic Book day.... It is as recognizable as comic books can get these days.

    It has made an appearance (with its owner) at at least one convention out on the west coast...

    So, the ASM 11 is a really great cover.... but would it be a top 10 Ditko cover if they were all out there? It gets tricky when we are stuck comparing items we are left with vs. items that might exist. The Hulk 181 for example, I think would make the list regardless. Checks all the boxes: It's famous, it's important, it's cool to look at....

    Why is the X-Men #1 multi cover not in the discussion? It's still the biggest selling comic book of all time, right? The X-Men are still a thing, right? It's not the AF15 interiors, but is it a bigger thing than a random Ditko ASM cover? It could be!

    How relevant are HOS or WSF29 or Windsor McCay today? You would literally have to start from scratch when describing those items to anyone under the age of 40. Movies have made comic book IPs more globally popular and relevant than they have ever been, but I'm not joking when I say you have to explain exactly who Frank Frazetta was to most people these days.

    I have owned two pages from this story inked by Mignola. I'm pretty sure I can rule Mignola out. My guess would be Adams or Austin. Adams being my prime suspect.
