  1. It's his first WW cover, and it's a perfect iconic pin-up shot which came from a time before that sort of thing became the norm. I think it'll look fantastic with a good logo overlay:
  2. For the longest time, Bolland was the best cover artist in comics, and his work was considered blue-chip by all. It's crazy to think how long the list is today of artists whose work sells for more than his does (Killing Joke aside)
  3. No worries! I'd thought you may have been discounting it because it was a silhouette. Three times during the 2010's I lost on DK auctions because I wanted one with Batman fully rendered and didn't bid high enough. "I can't believe someone would pay that much for just his outline" I would tell one of my friends after each loss. Then each time he would laugh at me and say "You should have stepped up. It's Dark Knight Returns, and silhouette or not, that's Batman in costume"
  4. No major Batman images?... isn't that a twice-up half-splash of Batman in full Dark "Knight" mode? Over and over we've seen that, regarding Frank Miller, having someone/something in silhouette form does not deter bidders nearly as much as it might with other artists.
  5. BUT (unsolicited opinion warning)..... for what it's worth, I like the yellow. I like how it highlights the whiteout touchups, giving clues to their techniques and processes. Also the piece feels more like a historical artifact with the aged paper toning.
  6. He was smart to use Felix to get out ahead of the story on his "win." Anyone remember how far in advance of the Live Auction his $2m bid was placed?
  7. The "Conspiracy Theorist / Devil's Advocate" in me has quite a few follow-up questions, but hey, at least some uncomfortable topics were broached.
  8. Series is a hit! ...Anyone looking for one of these?
  9. Saturday is now over, and I've heard next to nothing. Anyone have any stories to share?
  10. In my neighborhood, yes! And sometimes they do it before the package is even delivered!! Last year I had an Art-Day coming. I was at the office and was checking the tracking in anticipation, and was ecstatic to see their site said it had been delivered. I got home though, and panic instantly set in: Nothing on my porch. After 2 hours of freaking out and frantically trying to get ahold of the post office, our mailman finally rolled down our street (nearly 8pm) delivering to his route.
  11. I had two auctions in a row where I used the eCheck feature within 24 hours of the auction ending. Both times required a phone call before they began the shipping process. One of the times was a month-and-a-half after the auction.
  12. The problem is that this has become the default with HA in 2021/2022. They don't begin their end of the exchange until you call and nudge them.
  13. You need to teach that guy how to draw with his other hand too, so you guys can double his output.
  14. The thread is called "Popular" Things You Have No Interest In...
  15. Great scene. Fairly early in the run....Values on Preacher pages are tough to pin down these days, but if I had to guess, I'd say the floor is the mid 2,000s, with a chance to go much much higher.
  16. Key scene from the "Under Siege" storyline
  17. @modelmakergives some good advice. Adam Hughes commissions were the big thing when I started collecting. I would get to SDComic-Con early on preview night and immediately rush directly to his table when the doors opened, and you know what? I never made the list. There were always people who, dare I say "wanted it more." They would buy their $500 plane tickets to fly in from out-of-state, then spend $200+/night on a hotel room, then throw money at a dealer to get an exhibitor access pass and then get there early before doors opened and spend the whole day lurking around the booth so that the moment someone (Adam or Alison) made eye contact with them they could hit 'em up about the line. If all else failed they would stalk and pay off others to buy their slot. An artist like DWJ has literally hundreds of thousands of fans. Are you willing to scratch and claw your way to the top of the list to get a commission? If not you can, like me, just keep rolling the dice on your own with the mailing list in hopes of winning the DWJ lottery.
  18. Looking for $900 (includes domestic shipping). Will accept check, money order or bank transfer. PM me with any questions.
  19. Miller listing some of his influences, from "Artists on Comic Art":
  20. Love it! Miller was always such a great storyteller--that 2nd-to-last panel where Clark's heard the news and bolted into action so quickly his glasses were still hanging in the air...
  21. Dishonest, of course. Multiple public auction results of items which "slipped through the cracks" would (and rightfully should) discourage some of the insane bidding we have seen the past 20 years. Instead, the truth is obscured.
  22. If not for the aberration that was the Secret Wars 8 page, we would all be cheering the 2.4M DK result and proclaiming Miller the king of comics.
