PGM Sub-Mariner 46
Panda2 replied to SellinMyCollection's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I have a Daredevil 1 with a detached top staple that is CGC graded at a 7.5. It would otherwise grade around 9.0 -
Hi everyone, I just picked up a couple of raw ASMs through HA Sunday auction https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/the-amazing-spider-man-135-marvel-1974-condition-vf-/a/122311-13078.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/the-amazing-spider-man-149-marvel-1975-condition-vf-/a/122311-13079.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/the-amazing-spider-man-134-marvel-1974-condition-vf-/a/122311-13077.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 that are attributed to the Kane Collection. Curious as to whether anyone knows what this is? The best I could find in the interwebs could be this: https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/bcnews/news-archive-2011-to-2015/chronicle/2014/features/boston-college-students--exhibit-shows-comic-books--historical--.html but wanted to know if anyone had more information. Mostly out of curiosity as I had never heard of it. Many thanks in advance! Panda2

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your insights! This one looks really pretty in mylar...but - it has some spine stress, colour rubs (primarily on the back in the white areas where the gloss is gone), some smudging around the comic code box, dinged corner (back right top) etc. Curious as to where you would land the overall grade. As an extra bonus, it has an ad for the first Creeper in Showcase, which I think is so cool to see (and might be my next PGM submission) Cheers and thanks! Panda2

Hi everyone, I am sure this has been discussed, but couldn’t find it via a board search. Any recommendations on collectibles insurance carriers in Canada? Many thanks in advance! Panda2

I have noticed that they are considerably faster than this time last year - have been receiving books in about a week lately

Lets see your books that have 50 or fewer copies on the Census
Panda2 replied to frozentundraguy's topic in Comics General
Marvel Tales 134 - 1955 - one of 22 - and an awesome spaceship cover And Men in Action 1 - 1952 - total census of 6!!! Love the obscure books with awesome covers... -

Sorry, I should have clarified that it felt like a 5-5.5 if the piece wasn't missing...thanks for the feedback!
-
Hi everyone, Curious as to how the piece out of the back cover would affect the grade - without the piece out, I would think this feels like about a 5-5.5? Not thinking of having it slabbed, just trying to figure out accurate grading. Many thanks in advance! Panda2

Hi everyone, Curious about the effect of a colour breaking crease on an otherwise 9.something book (top right obviously) - not sure if this is the right place to post this, but would welcome thoughts on what a potential grade might be - this is less about the actual example than about how big a ding the grade would get with the crease. Looking at the CGC guide to grading comics, I would think maybe an 8-8.5, but honestly am curious as to what the reality is. Many thanks! Panda2

Hi all, Curious as to why GPAnalysis and seemingly other sites only use limited data from certain sources to report on current auction values? ComicLink seems conspicuously absent - is this because of lack of data access/privacy? Or some other reason I haven't thought of? It would seem logical to have some sort of aggregator that truly gives a snapshot of where the market is. Many thanks Panda2

Question about Gaines File Copies certificate numbering
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Comics General
Completely agree with this - they are the centerpieces of my collection - it feels like holding a piece of history to me. And certainly not going to come up for sale in the next couple of decades lol. -
Question about Gaines File Copies certificate numbering
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Comics General
Thanks - this is super helpful and interesting to contemplate. In the case of the 9.6, should I be worried that there are potentially 4 more unslabbed books that ~could~ grade out at 9.6 or higher? Out of curiousity, when where the Gaines archives opened and distributed? What was the mechanism to determine who could purchase them? Many thanks! Panda2 -
Hi All, Wondering how the numbering works on Gaines File Copies COAs. I have two copies - one a 9.2 and one a 9.8 - yet both certificates are numbered 10 of 12. On the 9.2, there are 18 copies listed in the census so it being the 10th best in the file would make sense. On the 9.6, there are 6 copies at 9.6 or above. Now I know that not all the Gaines Copies may have been slabbed, but the numbering is still making me scratch my head. So the question is - Does the #10 of 12 mean that it was the 10th best copy in the files, or just that it is one of 12 copies that received COAs? Many thanks! Panda2

Buyer’s recourse on auction sites?
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
So Kudos to ComicLink - within a day of emailing them with pics, they responded with a couple of questions, and then asked me to ship the book back to them for a refund. All in all a very positive experience with them when I had essentially written it off as a loss. Thanks to all on this board for your suggestions and help! Cheers, Panda2 -
Curious as to why flat and why not more than six high? I assume to prevent staple pulls, but why the limit on the stack height? Many thanks!

Buyer’s recourse on auction sites?
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Thanks for the advice - I have emailed them pics that clearly show that the cover was detached in the listing with no mention of it. I have attached botht eh listing and some pics I took of the book I received. You can see the misalignment in both the listing and my pics. Interestingly, you can also see the chipping and flakes under the L and exclamation mark in the listing. We will see what they say. And my bad, it was an 8.5 -
Question about staples and how they affect grades
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
No no no, I just keep reading about books being switched out. Irrational fear I guess I just don’t know if it is/how common it might be. Call me a cautious noob:) -
Question about staples and how they affect grades
Panda2 replied to Panda2's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Thanks I appreciate it. I guess my concern is that I haven’t yet figured out whether fraud is a thing in higher end books, and when contemplating spending a decent amount of cash, better safe than sorry. I did note that it’s a recent grading with a new pedigree label etc. I love the old early Mads. Really appreciate all the feedback/advice!
