  1. I too prefer the work of snowy coast; been using him since back when he was still Bowie's ghost
  2. At first I didn't realize this wasn't CCS, and then things started to make a lot more sense. I'm still so eager to hear whether those water notes were only on ones sent to that presser!
  3. That's cool. There appears to be one set available on an online auction site. You could also try putting a set together yourself from various sellers on various sites. One site to try is a retailer called mycomicshop. If you find that the "first printing" of a vintage comic book is too expensive, there sometimes exist reprints that may be less expensive. I believe that some issues of Black Hole were reprinted. You also may be interested in a book called Raw #4, which has a Charles Burns cover and originally came with a flexible record inside. Unfortunately for your wallet, it also came with the third chapter of Maus bound inside. Good luck!
  4. Hmm. Were the notes about water marks and stains only on books that you sent to that pressing company? Also, can you please copypaste the before and after notes for those books? This is interesting, thanks!
  5. Thanks for the update! I don't think it's so much about whether a particular defect is allowed, but whether a comic has the severity and volume of defects required to drop it from 9.8 to 9.6. Officially speaking, the difference between a 9.8 and 9.6 is "negligible defects" vs. "several minor" defects. Additionally, a 9.9 becomes a 9.8 when it has handling defects; only manufacturing defects are officially allowed in a 9.9.
  6. Congrats! (I do wish we didn't have to celebrate this kind of thing though, right?!)
  7. Just re-emphasizing that you were referring to sub-reddits which are insane. The posts here come across as genuine to me
  8. To preface, CGC notes are nearly worthless, but know that many things are allowed in a given grade whether they're mentioned or not. The way this is supposed to work is that if the defect exists but isn't mentioned in the notes, it is still allowed in the grade you were given, it just wasn't noted. Also when comparing notes it's possible that a different person is using different words to describe the same defect. Did you happen to use press screen on any of these? On the books: xxx1, 8.5 and 7.5 comics both have to have some significant problems. Was there something you may have missed? (edit: whoops this was a resubmission comic sorry!)xxx 2, What was the submitted grade? 3, What was the submitted grade? Can you provide HQ before and after pics on any of these for inspection? Thanks again so much for sharing all this!
  9. Thanks for posting this info! I'm going to come back to this thread I am really excited!
  10. If it's the person I'm thinking of then that person is a complete amateur and I would not trust them or their advice. That person also seems to have little self-awareness and is a horrible communicator. But let me tell you how I really feel 😜 There is someone out there who does have a great scientific approach to all of these subjects in the context of comic books, and I can tell you about that via PM if interested.
  11. It's cool that you're trying to gather info. Unfortunate that nobody has offered up receipts yet
  12. Heritage is free of accountability as well, perhaps more so since the owners have typically expired.
  13. The collecting gift insists on continuing to give
  14. 9.6 seems reasonable, I would just say not a 9.8 because it's more than just a bump, it's the type of defect you cant fix
  15. I'd argue that it's a significant defect because of actual material loss, which always seems to be treated with more weight than blemishes.
  16. I feel a momentary loss of enthusiasm whenever I see big-key multiples at a dealer or in auction house office photos. There's an idea of special scarcity with the older major keys, and when I spot multiples in a single occurrence it causes dissonance and a brief disheartening. I do enjoy collecting multiples, it just happens to be less popular stuff.
  17. Were you able to talk to anyone?
