  1. For my 10,000th post.... A personal grail! I just got this in today, I bought it sight unseen, and almost fell over when I saw how nice it was & that it is a white paged copy! Very hard to find Four Color #5 from 1942, the 1st Raggedy Ann & Andy comic! I have seen a couple of these over the last few years, but always 3 or 4 times over guide. This was at straight guide & I couldn't be happier!

Me like !! But somehow.....the "friendly dragon" doesn't look all that friendly. Nice book shivers

  2. This book amazes me !! No really it does, not cuz of what it is only, but because of how it came to me. I, as many of you know am a man, with a relationship with Christ Jesus that only Kurt Warner would understand  I am a man who has been tried and tested by the thing I loved most in this world (comics)......and the person who deserves my love most in this world (Christ Jesus). So, without going into the entire history......(PM me if you wanna talk about it) .....of all the books that I loved over the years of my collecting......Turok was my favorite !!

So, I had watched Turok #1's (596) come and go for quite ahile......for a minimum of $300 usually !! Mostly more.......mostly ( my apologies to Aliens ) So....last year......early January.....this book comes up on ebay. My birthday is Jan 10th.......and this books auction ended late......on Jan 9th. I watched it.......I followed the bidding.......which was around $98 ........then, at the last moment......as is my custom........late on Jan. 9th.......I subbmitted my final offer.........my final bid.........and I won the bid !!! I won the auction !! For $110.....Are you kidding......??? This book never goes for $110 in this condition......and my birthday being 1-10.......it just struck me .....this was too amazing too ignore !!! A Turok #1.......for $110....on 1-10-08 !!! A birthday present !!!

Now, as long as I don't start acting and talking like Gollum......I should be ok (thumbs u

  3. I just love these painted covers. I don't think any other publisher besides Gold Key/ Dell did these. Anyways, if you like dinosaurs, you just gotta get into the Turok books. They are very different. They are something not seen in todays books.......clean.......innocent.......DELL !!! I really like em !! Yes.......the stories too !!! Here is issue #3

  4. Not sure where the cut off is for Golden Age.......I think its Showcase #4......1956.....so this is still GA......Its Turok #4. One of my favorite runs....that started out as a Four Color....and a book that had a wonderful run of over 100 issues. I, however am only collecting the first 50. Here is issue # 4 that I got from 1,000,000 comics in NY. A beautiful copy.........

  5. Speaking of books I used to have....brings to mind this Cap #15. Its the one book I most regret selling :( :( . I have no idea who bought it......the dentist maybe......whoever eff22 is.......but I wish I still had it. It seems now to be one of those books that you just never get a second chance to own.

This is a copy of the auction I ran on ebay in Feb. 2003 for Captain America #15 in .....well....in really nice condition. I screen-shot this about 20 minutes before the auctions end.........

  6. I had a Tec 90 and it was one of my favorites.

I sympathize with you Poker.......there have been so many books I have owned over the years, that if I think about, I just get sad. :(

I'm really focusing on the love and not the $$$ nowadays. Sure $$$ is involved, but I'm not really buying to make profit......I'm buying to keep. This is MY collection.

Ok.....with that being said......heh heh....I bring you.....a book that I don't <3 . Its nice. Its cool. Its clean and its in super shape, but I don't really care for it. I'd trade it for some Plas book to my liking pretty quick I think. Its another book I got from the "estate lady of Pennsylvania" Whiz #116

  7. Heres a really beautiful book from the Paul Duffy collection. Mr. Bedrock can attest to the fact that Paul Duffy is a real person. A person, I might add, who has a beautiful collection of high grade books. This is one I managed to purchase from him last year. He bought it at one of the Houston Comic Conventions over 25 years ago. Joe Smejkal wanted it.....but couldn't get it away from Paul !! I however.....did !! ;)

  8. I love having a scanner !! Hope I can learn some tricks about using this baby. I was driving yesterday (Sunday) and saw some dancing goof on the corner with a big sign saying 30 % off at Circuit City.....and then I remembered they were going out of business. I turned in.....parked.....went in......found a Cannon PIXMA mp 620 scanner/printer for $135........and bought it !! And thats why you are seeing all these pics...... (thumbs u

  9. I won two books off this seller from Jersey last summer, but when they arrived I found that one had a detatched cover. When I told the guy about it, he was more than cool, and gave me a complete and total refund PLUS the shipping !!! In talking with him, he said he was a V.Vet and a computer hacker in the service who nowadays just kinda liked to lay low and be quiet. He was sorry about the cover (it was a Det 95). I really liked that one too.......great cover.....but detatched cover is just too much pain for me to deal with. This book is the first issue in the run I am going after for Detective.

    Det90.jpg

  10. The first Det I won after deciding the boundaries of my Batman collection. This one was just a little bit dirty but is sound and whole with tight staples. Somehow this cover reeks of the "Gay Batman" ideology.....and I can't say that I don't see it  Not saying its true.....just saying. I'm glad to have it.

    Det97.jpg

  11. Another cool Det book. I bought this one off a seller who I later came to find out lived in my town of Springfield Or. only a couple of years ago. She had since moved up to Port Angeles Washington.......saying that it was getting over populated here in Springfield !! Hahahaha.....me, coming from L.A. and moving to a town of 65,000.......I find nothing over populated about it. Its perfect!! Not only that.....but we have a hospital ;)

  12. one of my favorite schomburg "busy" covers.

Busy covers is a good way to describe it. The other two I had were Nazi books....still waiting for those to pop up.

Everybody loves Batman.....right?? Well I do too. So I decided that there were just too many Batman books that were out of my price range and I needed to find a realistic group of books that would be challenging yet attainable to my income. I have owned some early Detectives, and really love the look of the large logo books....and decided to start with the last 20 or so of the large logo Detectives (90 - 113)

Bought this book GCG'd at 6.0 from a guy in Indiana. Cracked it as soon as I got it and used the slab for another project (wink wink.... Worldsbestcomics).

  13. As a teenager in the 70's....this is one of 3 MM books that I owned. I purchased them from Nick Scotto / The Comic Vendor in So. Cal. and they were in beautiful shape EXCEPT..........yea, except.... they had 3 hole punch holes on the spine edge. At first I was happy to have them.......cuz they were golden age......but after awhile, I started to really dislike the 3 holes (for some reason).....and ended up selling them back to him.

When I saw this book come up for sale last March, in very nice condition from Ihcomics in Kentucky, I fired off a heat seeking missle bid (with 5 seconds left  ) and nailed it for my collection. A little dust shadow on bottom, but look..........NO HOLES !!!

  14. I Have been really drawn to Cole lately & have been thinking about picking up some police/ Plas. Nice to see these!

The interiors are really the beauty of his work. I really don't understand why he chose the covers he did. Maybe it was some kind of editorial thing at Quality.......or maybe it was just, he didn't have time. Its too bad cuz if he would have done more covers like #'s 25, 26 and 27 .....then this series would be ....SUPER AWESOME !!!

Ok....last one. I don't wanna show you the whole of my Police collection. This book was almost a bad ebay experience......cuz what was advertised.....was not what I got. Old tape on the inside front cover PLUS the staple was tape reinforced by some kid back in the forties (or whenever). When I got it......I complained about it and the description.........and surprisingly was offered to pay what I thought it was worth. I offered $40 less than I won it for.......and he accepted !! I was very surprised!! Today, this is one of my fav books. I can pop it out of the Mylar and read it with almost NO worries.

  15. Very nice copies. Jack Cole was able to fully incorporate the character into panels and give him a charm that no one else seemed to be able to do with this character. I love reading his golden age books, but nearly all the Plastic Man/Elongated Man stories DC did later felt lame by comparison.

Yea they did. To me also, there is NO comparisson. Other artists tried to do Plas....but they just couldn't capture it. I think they were trying to draw a "stretchy" hero......but what was missing was the fantastic ability and creativity that was Jack Cole. I think Stan Lee knew that the stretchy hero idea was a winner........with fantastic possibilities......and changed what Cole did (wild humor and fantastic situations and contortions) into a serious stretchy character. It was quite brilliant !! I have no problems with Kirbys Mr. Fantastic. Elongated man however......sucked

This cover gives me the Christmas feeling.....even though its not really a Christmas cover. Must be that tree in the corner.

  16. I picked this one up by accident. Just one of those books you see and almost absent mindedly toss out a low ball bid. Well, a few days later when the auction was over I saw that I had won!! No one else bid !! So, in spite of some rodent eating the bottom right corner off, and that bit of chipping along the bottom edge......this book is pretty nice and I'm quite happy with it. Its clean and solid with a tight staple.......and oh yea,..........its Plas !! I was thinking that this is the kind of book not soon forgotten.....and that maybe I purchased it from someone here?? ......before I knew who any of you were. Anyone recognize it?

  17. I bought this book in 1999 in San Diego at the convention. In 2002 I sold my entire collection including this book which was bought by none other than Frank Brunner, the artist (Doctor Strange etc. ). Well, late in 2007, as my comic fever was being rekindled, the thought came to me to check ebay for Police Comics, and guess what.......Frank was selling some books, this one included !! I bought it back from him after almost 5 years ! I asked him about it and he remembered me and said he was happy that I "loaned" it to him for 5 years. We had a chuckle over that situation.........
