  1. Continuity? You think people are actually reading these books? That's sweet! The fact that it's a kiddie book means that no one took care of it. What does the census on BA 12 look like compared to Deadpool and Venom? I wouldn't buy any of them right now, but BA 12 has the most justification for its current price. 900 in Universal Grade with 247 books in 9.8 and 278 in 9.6. That is more than half in 9.6 or above. As such one cannot assume that this book was not taken care of...even if grading does tend to sway towards books in better condition overall.
  2. Reason being this thread is supposed to be about NM 98 and only NM 98. In your defense are other books like TWD 1 and ASM 300 being brought up? Yes, they are. Right. So then I am properly wondering why that book has not been a part of the conversation for comparative purposes. When it is the frothiest of all examples. (thumbs u -J. And now all you have to do is get one more person to respond to your inquiry and carry on a conversation about that said comic and you will have succeeded in your goal. (thumbs u Not sure why there isn't a thread on BA 12 bubble bursting... Probably should be! Tell JayDog. I am sure he would love to start it! JayDog; there you go. Looks like you will also have some worthy participants as well.

  5. That's quite the imagination! Actually I agree with most of what Beige said. While I don't think TWD #1 will end up below $1,000 anytime soon almost everything else he said was spot on. The thing about bubbles is that when you are in a bubble most people don't know you are in a bubble until it is too late. Right now there are way too many 'newbies' coming in after seeing comic book prices continually rise. I will assure you that this will not last forever. Both the media and speculators like to focus on books that are going up and continue to break auction records. Ironically when these same or similar books fail to break new sales records or sell at a loss you never see media coverage devoted to them...thus the point I brought up earlier in this thread.
  6. Personally I think the prices being paid for ASM 300 in 9.8 are insane, but the overall market seems to disagree with me. That book flirted with the $1,000 price point before a d I thought it was just a fluke. Much to my surprise it is still going strong.
  7. You are welcome to search the forum for my past comments on this very issue. I had stated previously if a movie was announced the book would spike in value. It is long term that I have issues with the sudden increase in price. It is not sustainable at these levels. Anyone remember when Transformers 1 in 9.8 was destind to be and remain a $1000 book? How come this forum never focuses on topics of this caliber? What about books like TOD 1 and Swamp Thing 1 that were selling for close to $3000 each in 9.8 and deemed to be 'great investments?' Great investments to whom; current sellers at the time? Well, I do blame these people for the value decline with Transformers 1... I don't. It's still overpriced given how many copies exist in 9.8 and how many more exist in NM/Mint unslabbed.

  9. +1 Isn't it interesting to note how many 'speculators' are now clamoring for a copy of NM 98 after the price has escalated. Where were these same individuals when you could get a copy in 9.8 for less than $400? This book is being submitted to CGC en masse. I just helped a friend clean out a spare room in which we found five high grade copies of this issue alone. What do you think is currently on its way to be pressed and graded right now? The census will only increase while the popularity will eventually dwindle. For anyone who doesn't think that books like NM 98 and Ms Marvel 1 aren't operating in a bubble I have a nice bridge to sell you or some so called rare Amiibos. Who's buying?
  10. Yes. Of all the things, zombies have stuck around with power akin to Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. Some things come and go out of fashion, but the above named things have stuck around for a looong time. With TWD being one of the most popular zombie stories ever made, I personally think it will have a VERY long-lasting impact on not just comic culture, but pop-culture over all. -slym Of course! The Walking Dead will easily be remembered in twenty years. Whether or not it will still be popular is what is being questioned.
  11. I was surprised by this fact too. I remember when ASM 300 was at close to $1000 in 9.8. Now it appears poised to surpass even that price point. I really don't understand this and caution buyers to use some form of restraint. Over the holiday weekend I helped a friend clean out a spare room in his house. We found a small box of comics from the 80's and 90's and sure enough multiple copies of this and NM 98 were found bagged and boarded. There are tons of high grade copper keys out there. In the meantime he is going to get those books pressed and graded.
  12. The Demon 1 appears to be a book that continues to fly under the radar. Star Wars 1 will unfortunately encounter a moderate rise in price even though there are a ton of them out there. Much like Transformers 1 I don't see that book remaining at high levels for long after the hype from episode 7 settles down. Star Wars 1 in 9.8 sells for $500 or more as it is.
  13. I did not like The Evil Within. Horrible controls with an even more horrid story. Still, I do hope it gets a sequel as it couldn't possibly be worse. Still anxiously awaiting Until Dawn and Uncharted 4.
  14. Isn't asking why we have no threads that show books that have or are dropping in value a better question to ask? I ask this question in general terms and not to contradict the original poster in any way. In typical fashion it appears we only care about books that are rising in price and not those that fall. Why is this? You can learn much more by looking at books that are dropping in price than those that are on the rise.
  15. Something we finally agree on. However, I liked it better on the PS4.
  16. Have you looked at Walking Dead TV show demographics to support your claim? Walking Dead beats all shows in the 18-49 age demo every week. I wouldn't call 18-25 mature audiences. The show caters to the young and older and has ratings that TV execs dream of... I was looking over the numbers and more people watch The Walking Dead, then The Flash, Gotham and Agents of Shield combined! That`s one Walking Dead episode getting higher ratings then their 3 episodes combined. I see what you are saying and The Walking Dead has cross generational appeal that spans many different demographics. However just because someone is a fan does not remotely translate into someone who will be willing to pay thousands to own the first issue in near mint condition. This is an incorrect assumption being made by a lot of speculators. It was this same mentality that gave rise to the Beanie Babie bubble, the speculative Lego craze, and the rise and fall of Atari games. Collectors are born they are not made. One doesn't simply watch a movie or a TV show and just decide to collect something. Those who do have the instinct and.the drive were born with it long ago and it is generally traced back to childhood. Does this mean this book will ever be worthless? Absolutely not. I said this before and I will say it again. This book will always be a $1,000+ book in 9.8. It has to be or speculation is much worse than I originally thought and that could not be good. Still, the true test of this book will come after the show ends...years after. Just understand that what myself and other collectors on this forum see as a collection others see as clutter. The collecting gene will never die off, but it has been suppressed by younger generations to a degree. That being said every generation also has new items to choose to collect. This has caused a lot of once prominent collectibles to fall dramatically in price. The market for a lot of collectibles is no longer cyclical. It never was. Many are linear with a difinitive end. Does anyone really believe that certain markets like cast iron door stops, mechanical banks, metal lunch boxes, and Marx toys will continue to set new sales records? Who is left to sell these items to? Curiosity in an item does not cause auction records to be broken; emotional attachment does. As I write this literally hundreds to thousands of collectible markets are dying a slow death. Where are all these so called fans? Inching closer to six feet under is the answer. As someone wise once said "time is the fire in which we all burn."
  17. Btw, not really, the number of Cerebus #1s is finite, GSXM #1 is not - Even after years of high profile, they are still available in the wild, C1 not so. Cerebus 1... There will never be another book like it... That is definitely true... I don't think too many will argue with that statement; at least in the manner I am looking at it from.
  18. This is not always true. Not all books continue to stay at post speculative highs after the release of a subsequent movie or television show. To make this conclusion is not only dangerous, but also false. I bet you're a blast at parties. Do you really think I take the time to go to parties?
  19. Oh come on now you need to get a comfy job on Wall Street. Not only do you get handed $1,000,000+ to 'invest' (forget $1,000), but if you lose the taxpayers bail you out and if you win you keep all he gains. It is the only way to invest!
  20. Mostly because there isn't a lot of attention drawn to the books for the exact reason you mentioned. Ghost Rider and Green Lantern were also adapted horribly too. They're still legitimate keys and even "grails" to certain collectors out there. In that sense I don't see the books going down. I actually feel now is the time to grab pick them up while the focus is on ridiculousness like Squirrel Girl, Quake, Enchantress, Variants, etc.. TOD10 and MS5 can both be had for under $100 in mid grade. That seems pretty crazy to me. TOD 1 (yes, I do mean issue one) has done nothing in regards to price appreciation in years. TOD 10 I always thought has peaked as well. This was a close to $3000 in 9.8 at one time. I don't see it as undervalued. I don't think movie studios will revisit these characters any time soon. I fully agree however, that it is completely idiotic that fourth tier characters like Squirrel Girl have experienced modest price appreciation. This should correct soon. Most movie hyped books do not stay at speculative highs.
  21. Question: Why would books like MS 5, TOD 10, and GL 76 suddenly become even more valuable after their subsequent movies have already ran their course? GL 76 especially took a moderate fall from grace as the movie failed to live up to the hype.
  22. And these points mean very little in regards to its performance on the secondary collectibles market. Collectors are born, they are not made. A fan is not the same thing as a collector and there are different types of collectors.
  23. I am really excited about Until Dawn for the PS 4. I don't know why, but it kind of reminds me a little bit like the old FMV game Night Trap mixed with Silent Hill wile being trapped in a Saw movie. I know the gameplay may be lacking, but I cannot wait to play it. That is saying something as I am more of a collector than a player because I have been totally disappointed with both the PS 3 and the Xbox 360. Luckily the Wii U and the PS 4 rekindled my love for the industry.
  24. Lots of opinions being thrown around so to clarify I'll state what I always said throughout the 200+ pages of this thread. Kindly note that I don't have a crystal ball. This is just based on decades of experience within the antiques and collectibles trade. The true test of this book will come one to five years after the television series is cancelled. I do not think it will drop immediately after the show is cancelled, but it may very well experience a small to moderate price dip. This book will always be a $7(0 to $1000 book in 9.8 in my opinion. If it is not we are all in trouble because that would indicate that speculation is much worse than I imagined...and I already picture it being quite bad. Time will tell...
