You guys are lucky. I've had no success with garage/yard/stoop sales. The books are either junk or the seller thinks they are smart and gets on comicspriceguide.com and marks everything at the 1st print NM price.. even though the books are far from it. Of course they assume you are trying to rip them off if you attempt to educate them.
Take this beauty for example.
Some items up for grab are, Childrens clothing(bouys) ages 3-5 years old, Boys toys, Baseball cards, assorted, (including Rookie Cards), some vintage items, Books, DVD's, some comics(Battlestar Galacticta #1 up for sale for 30 dollars(not a bad price for anold comic)) ladies handbags, shoes, a nintendo dsi game called Proffessor Layton and the curious village(still sealed in the package going for only $20.00)and many more items. Thanks for saving me the trip, buddy.

Stephen Hawking is my hero. He has such a knack for making incredibly complex phenomena understandable to everyone. Fantastic article

Found a great thread discussing the ending. The guy has some excellent theories:

Then another guy has more insights and rebuttals:

Ahhh the ending, that been much discussed, a 2001 space odyssey style mind trip where the crew of the Probe Ship see visions of heaven and hell as they journey through the black hole, its truly a freaky way to end what should be a family film. He doesn’t escape at the end instead they 'see' the wild haired body of Reinhardt 'float' into Maximilian, his eyes come alive inside him and he takes up position atop a mountain overseeing hordes of the dammed marching up its slopes, the dead crew of the cygnus perhaps.
Really give the film another go, there’s lots to enjoy like some bizarre mix between alien, star wars and 2001, the opening third is the best like a gothic haunted house movie in space and the score and production design are superb.
I watched the film again. Wow, that ending is a mind trip, alright. It's all scifi up until the last 5 minutes when it turns into Hellraiser-in-Space. I actually found the 'floating' of Reinhardt into Maximillian very awkward.. Don't know if this was the intention, but it almost looks like Maximillian is laying down Hans on an off-camera bed for some sexy time.
Here's the ending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-Xwu-1PDzo
What does it mean? I'm guessing that the Black Hole was a gateway to Hell. The merged Reinhardt and Max were so evil that they were given special treatment in the underworld and now have a middle-management position. The Palomino crew didn't belong in Hell, so an angel escorts them through a gothic vaulted tunnel until they emerge in another universe.. I would say that it's Heaven, but VINcent is there.. why would a robot go to Heaven? Then again, why would the innocent, tortured crew of the Cygnus be left in Hell with Reinhardt? Makes no sense, but I love it.

So I did remember correctly. Thanks for the reminder.
How long before a Hollywood remake?
Apparently it's underway. Same crew that did Tron Legacy.

Side topic.. I read a movie review today that says that Reinhardt hides inside Maximillian's body at the end to try and ride out the Black Hole. As a kid, I always thought that there was some kind of evil mind-melding going on -- as if Reinhardt died, went to hell, and was merged with Maximillian. That was a freaky scene for me as a 9-year-old.. and apparently I misinterpreted it. Was I the only one?
I'm going to run out and pick up the movie this week. Gotta watch it again as an adult.

Came across some Black Hole action figures in a thrift store recently. Can't help but laugh at them. The Vincent and Maximillian figures are nice, but the human figures are barely recognizable as the characters from the movie. Not nearly as cool as Star Wars figures.
"What do you want for Christmas, Billy?"
"I want the Harry Booth and Charlie Pizer action figures, Mom!"
Check them out here:

Awesome OA Hugo!!
<3 The Black Hole! Even had the branded bedsheets when I was a kid and one of those plastic model kits of Vincent.
I'm amazed that art exists for issues #5 and 6! Thanks for posting, Bellrules! Would be great to see all the pages scanned and collected together so we could read the story. If issue #4 is any indication, I'm sure it would suck -- but I want to read it all the same.

Today I finished by TMNT 1-4 run
Thank you Adam and Michael for your help with completing this.
All issues are white pages and all are 9.8 except for #1, which is a 9.4 signed by Eastman and Laid with a sketch on the inside cover. This gave me enough points to tie for #5 in the registry sets. Yeap, turtles sets are getting that competitive around here!
Nice Jad. Why stop at #4?

Dave Sim had a $25 Cerebus head sketch "sale" on ebay last week. Anyone else get one?

Just got this back from CGC not too long ago. I bought this book raw and it graded an outstanding 9.8 WP, which I am just ecstatic about. For you that are not familiar with TMNT #2 this is a difficult book to find in 9.8 and white page copies never seem to come up for sale. I feel very, very fortunate for this find.
Great book, Jad. Now you need to find a 9.8 #1.

Red Cross/Navy giveaway with original Bud Sagendorf art. Not listed in Overstreet (as far as I can tell).
Picked this up off ebay recently. First one I've seen. Very cool little pamphlet. In great shape other than some cover tanning.
I really love the simple three color palette (red/blue/black).

It actually is slightly trimmed but trimming has never bothered me.
I'd personally rather have a slightly trimmed book that is otherwise all original than a book with pieces added that isn't. I don't think this book has had any pieces added from what I can see. Probably would have been in the 2.0 range before the resto. Just a little reinforcement along the spine, some tear seals and some color touch.
I'm happy.

*takes foot out of mouth*
You should be very happy. A grail book and quite a nice copy at that.

You guys don't mind if I do this do you? First time I've scanned it.
Looks trimmed.
Great book, Roy. Congrats!

I have that catalog scanned and posted on my website if anyone's interested in looking at it.
Awesome! Been wanting to look at that list for a long time. Any idea where that King Comics #1 VF ended up?

Just got this back today. Pekar was friendly, but pretty sloppy when handling the book (he's getting up there in age and was not very coordinated -- as you can tell by the scribble of a signature). I was afraid the grade would take a hit. Pretty excited about the result.

Picked up a copy of this Popeye story book from the late 30s.. for $6.99.
Had a funny surprise on the inside.. an old piece of paper with handwritten names. I think that's pretty darn cool.
