  1. Old label OW-W 8.0 benefited from a good pressing

    IMG_0883_zps3nxrobg8.jpg

Squished it so hard the OW disappeared :o

I believe CGC has relaxed the criteria for page quality on books. It's very common for older slabbed books I send in for a press and resub to come back with a step up in page quality, especially from off white/white to white pages. Not saying this is the case for everyone, but this has been my experience with the 25 or so books I have done this with.

PQ has been all over the map with books Ihave re-submitted, including books re-submitted to or from other companies. I kind of stopped trusting the designation.

  2. I just heard yesterday that two of my paintings from earlier this year were accepted to the 1-14 August exhibition in Vancouver held by the Federation of Canadian Artists.

If anyone is in Vancouver during that time, feel free to check them out! This exhibition is called "Small, Smaller, Smallest" and features small artworks. Mine are 8 x 10s (below).

It is the first time I will exhibit physical artworks!

  3. OK, there are lots of books he signed that he had nothing to do with. And the infamous cockroach sketch. How about nominees for terrible placement?

Would have been nice if he signed in the space above with the writing

    Wow. What a POS signature.

I have only recently started buying silver keys, and the quantity of books spoiled is quite alarming. From really nice mid-grade AF 15s to 9.6 FF 48 - the range is woeful.

  4. Making a living as an artist is very tough. I was not brave enough to try it, and was lucky enough to be good at other things as well.

Inasmuch as others have given you caution that art school may not be what you think it is - and I tend to agree that you will develop best on your own with relentless practice and advice from senior artists - the name brand of a good art school behind you may be beneficial in networking and establishing a client base from your work.

Good luck with the sales thread, and keep posting your latest works in the "personal art" thread.

  5. 20 somthing years a romance started- with the Gerber PhotoJournal Guide. I poured over the two volumes, compiled a list of the books with scarcity index of 7 or above and was mesmerized by the number of books I had never seen before. There were a few that stood out even more than others, and yesterday I had a chance to pick up my first copy of one of my favorites. :cloud9:

Would this get the Headlights notation or Fistful of Severed Tongues notation? hm

I would prefer a fistful of headlights, myself.

  6. Reviews doesn't matter with this movie. It's going to make a ton of money the next couple of weeks with little competition. I think it looks like a mess but I will see it with my kids anyways. I expect little going in so expectations can be easily matched if it's a least half way watchable.

When people are OK to settle for mediocrity, just because that is all that is on offer, producers tend to be lazier, more entitled, and produce even more mediocrity.

A couple of bad superhero movies are OK, but if it becomes routine they may crash like video games in the 80s. Hope it does not happen, though!

I also note that Affleck was a horrible Daredevil and should not have been re-cast in any kind of super hero role, in particular such a key one.

  7. I finished this commission recently:

I am also slowly building up my online gallery.

Fantastic work, Mio. Really impressive. The fabric folds and light/shadow are excellent, as are the reflections on the metal pots in your still life paintings.

A couple of newish still life works for those interested. These are both on postcard sized paper.

    Beautiful!! :o

Thanks! These tiny ones were quite tricky. I also finally just got around to making a Facebook page for these doodles here ...

... and did I mention I will trade paintings for comics?! ;)

  8. There is some cool work here, guys. Glad I am not the only hobby artist around these parts.

And as a shameless plug for my own goods, I finally started a facebook page ( here ) in case anyone wants to follow/like it. I am hoping to post updates there once or twice a month.

Thanks a lot. I just finished another still life on the weekend of a similar theme - it is however only the size of a postcard. I did manage to pack in the same amount of detail (more or less)!

  11. Sort of embarrassing posting after Mio but what the hell...

Thats crazy talk. Those are good. My pen and ink stuff was junk! It is very hard and no way to fix mistakes - with oil, I just paint over them.
