  1. Hopefully someone finds a treasure in the mix.  I restructured my collection and culled out some books to scale down.  I am still in the process of scaling back on some Moderns but for now this is a mixed bag of items.

No one on the probation list.

I have sold here and I pack well.  I will ship TPBs and HC via media mail if desired.  Comics though will go priority mail.  I have regional boxes on hand so if you are on the East coast, that will hold down the cost.

Edit: I will post thumbnails that are clickable to see the larger image.

  2. That is a fantastic collection of Katy Keene comics.  I just pulled out the few Pinup Parades I own and I think those are incomplete as well. Oh well.  My Katy collection is very small.  I like the Pinup Parades the best but the are always incomplete.  I have several issues of the series.  My favorite that I own is issue 37.  There is a fantastic witch splash page that I adore.  I have seen some of the interior of 62 and have always wanted to get a copy.  But it is a fan favorite cover swipe issue that is hard to grab.  One of the LCS had a copy and I still kick myself for not getting it.  It was a many, many years ago and he wanted about 50-60 dollars for it.

I only have one Katy Keene Fashion Book.  I like those alot.  The seller that I purchased from had a ton of Katy Keene titles.  I struggled with getting the Pinups vs the Fashion books.  I decided on the Pin ups to get closer to completing that title.  I think it is a pipe dream.  I do appreciate your doing page counts.  That will definitely help me with my future purchases.  One of the reasons it is so hard to collect her is the lack of data on the series.  KK Pinup 4 I purchased is so pretty.  The cover is stunning white with almost white pages.  You can not even see any missing pages.  Even following the stories and page numbers, it flows so that makes it difficult to figure out where anything was pulled out.  The other two Pinups I purchased from the seller, you can see where the pages were cut.  There are tell-tale page stubs sticking out if you look for them.

I was able to check my copies.  All three issues have 96 interior pages plus the cover making for 100 pages each.  If you buy any Katy Keene Fashion Book issues, #19 only has 28 pages including the covers and I think one issue before or after was the same.  I ended up with 3 copies with all 3 having 28 pages.  I saw that Doug Sulipa mentioned in Overstreet in the last year or two that he has never been able to locate a complete copy but it turns out it only had 28 pages.  No 3rd party advertising at all.  I have some old KK fan club articles and they also acknowledged that this was just a 28 page issue.

Thank you so much for checking.  The information is definitely helpful as I do want to collect more of these Pinup Parades.  Maybe I should just stick to the regular series as those are easy to detect missing pages.  Funny that you should say that about KKFB 19.  The seller had a copy that I purchased.  But that one was disclosed as missing pages.  I purchased it anyway because I don't think I would ever find a complete one at an affordable price.

Doug is extremely knowledgeable.  I have purchased small amounts from him over the years of odd ball items.  If noone here replied back, I was going to email him.

I checked Keltner's Guide, Jeannine, but as I suspected the title wasn't listed.

One suggestion is to PM Conan since Lonestar has a copy of #4 for sale to ask if he would have someone there count the pages of that copy.  It is a consignment book but I believe they the books in hand at Lonestar.   If they will, at least you could see if it has the same page count.

    Here's the copy link - https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=352551

And Conan's board name is mycomicshop

Thank you for the suggestion.  I was thinking of contacting a seller as a last resort.  I figured I would ask here as I trust the members here.  (P.S. I purchased a Katy Keene from MyComicShop and it was incomplete and I had to return it.  That was several years ago and the only book I ever returned to MCS)

  5. I found missing pages in my Pin Up 2 and 3 using some other sellers interior pictures from ebay and discovering some torn out pages.

So if anyone does have the page count to issue 4 that would be most helpful.  I am going to run to the library and see if Overstreet may have the page counts.  My digital copy no longer works.  I hunted several dealer and auction sites and none list the page count.  I am wondering how CGC actually grades this without page count information.  They are almost impossible to tell if a page is missing when the numbering matches.

On to more research.  Now I know why I stopped collecting this title.  I love Katy but her books take so much effort.  I cannot even state how much lost shipping cost I have encountered over the years.

  6. I had the comic bug last week and picked up a few Katy Keene Pin Up parade issues.  They arrived and I am stoked.  I did a page count and am surprised that each one has a different count.  I stopped collecting Katy Keene for incomplete books.  The dealer had a lot of other Katy Keene books and listed ones that were missing pages.  These were not listed as missing pages.  The one I am suspect is number 3.  Looking down at the binding , it looks like it could be but then from the bottom the binding looks fine.

GCD doesn't have any page counts for most of these Pin Up parades.  I have later Pin Up parades but not sure if these earlier ones have a different page count.  If anyone out there has one of all of the issues below and can let me know what the page count should be that would be very helpful.  I promise that I will update the GCD with the information as well.

Not including the cover which adds an additional 4 pages.  The pages below are only of the comic interior pages.

    • Katy Keene Pin Up parade 2 - 88 pages (44 pages x 2)  That is a strange page count.
    • Katy Keene Pin Up parade 3 - 64 pages (32 pages x 2)
    • Katy Keene Pin Up parade 4 - 80 pages (40 pages x 2)

    Thank you.

  7. Two of my best comic purchasing days:

1 -  I picked up a stack of 20¢ DC books from a Craigslist listing.  Completely well read stack, probably round 100+ books for about $30 bucks.  I, then started a post over on the real DC boards (years before they were taken down), entitled All those 20¢.  I would post each issue I read and we would discuss the issue or artist.  There was one poster there that was very well educated about DC artist.  I think he was in the industry at one point but he never divulged anything about his past work experience.  (Sheepishly, I did post here back in the day to see if it was worth picking.  I was told no.  :$)

2 - Picked up a long box at a garage sale of all BA Batman issues from a guy about 10 minutes away from me.  I went back the next day and took another huge stack of his books.  I still have most of the books I purchased that day.  They were from his personal childhood collection.

  8. I have a package from California coming to NY.  It just states "in transit arriving late".  I have no idea of the package location either.  So if it gets scanned delivered now and I don't receive it, I am out $100.  Great.

  9. I am going to post a Podcast.  He worked at the LCS, I shopped at and I feel like he just puts together a great podcast.  Season 4 has a fantastic interview with the owner of Zapp comics, Ben.  The podcast focuses on Collecting, the collector experience, the Retail end, conventions, cosplayers, etc.   They sometimes do a book review but that is rare.  So it isn't for those looking for a current weekly discussion.

He is also on Itunes as well.  The company is called Flat Squirrel Productions

I am curious what others (here in the community) think about this.

As everyone probably knows, Comic Connect, recently ran an event auction from Monday 03/11 to Friday 03/15.

I "won" my first item on Monday, 03/11.  Although I am not sure "won" is the correct term, when in fact all I did was agree to pay more than anyone else did, for the item.

Although I like to pay for things immediately, since I wanted to bid on several other items (ending 03/12 - 03/15), I figured it made sense to wait until the auction was completely over before paying for the items.

I kind of look at this like walking through a store and shopping for a number of items.  I usually wait until I have put all my purchases in my shopping cart before I check out.  I don't typically walk up to the register every time I pick up one item and pay for that one item.

Then on Wednesday 03/13 (with two more full nights of auction ahead), I receive the following email from CC...

There is an ACTION REQUIRED for your order on ComicConnect.com.

We thank you for making this purchase, and must kindly ask you to PLEASE COMPLETE ONLINE CHECKOUT so we may process the order for the benefit of both you and the seller in a timely manner.

You recently committed to buy one or more items, and the seller(s) have already been contacted to ship the item(s) you've purchased to ComicConnect.  However, you have not yet provided the necessary shipping & payment information to process your order.

Please use the URL below to visit the "Won/Purchased" category of your ComicConnect account, and follow the on-screen instructions.  Please note that failure to do so in a timely fashion may result in suspension of your ComicConnect membership and privileges.

If you are waiting to purchase more items before you checkout, you may do so, but please do it within a reasonable period of time.

Given I have done thousands of dollars in business with CC over the years and have never not paid them immediately, I found this email a little "insulting".  I guess the line I found the most insulting was.....

Please note that failure to do so in a timely fashion may result in suspension of your ComicConnect membership and privileges.

To be fair, they do say, toward the end, "If you are waiting to purchase more items before you checkout, you may do so....",   which I thought was nice, however, then they quickly add, "but please do it within a reasonable period of time."   I guess maybe I am reading into it, but I don't like the "tone" of this email.  As such, I contacted CC and told them that I had intended to bid on additional items, but if it was a problem, I would be happy to pay immediately.  CC wrote back and stated that I could wait until the end of the auction and that this was simply an automatic email that went out.

Maybe I am being a little over sensitive, however, it seems to me that CC could wait until after their auction was over to send out these emails.  I especially believe this way, given the long period of time I have sometimes waited to receive items that I have purchased from CC in the past.

To be clear, I have already checked out and paid in FULL.

I would like to know what others think about this.

I don't want to pick a fight.  You sound like an entitled collector just because you spent xxx with CC.  Sorry but after dealing with several of your type over the past few weeks at work, you MUST realize that even the high rolling customers in any business is subject to standard email, calls, etc.  WHY should you be treated any different?  I will never understand why people feel they are special just because.  Sorry, I feel like every one is the same and should be treated the same.  It is a simple email attempting to collect payment.  No reason to make an issue of it or start a thread about it either.  We are getting way to sensitive these days.

  11. The local shop by closed about 4-5 years ago.  Since then the tenant next door moved too. The landlord too the opportunity to combine the space.  It sits empty still.  It is sad to see how many vacant stores when you drive down the main strip.  Only thing that is filling the spaces are Urgent Care or Car dealerships.  It is not a pretty landscape.  Feels a bit like mini-NJ.
