  1. Yeah, good point. The tank is fairly close to a Tiger IV, the 'potato masher' grenades and the helmets are sorta kinda right, but the uniforms don't look right to me - at the very least they are an odd mixture of winter and summer kit, but with American styling. And colouring them all olive drab tends to make them look less German and more American as well. It now makes sense that all those Schomburg covers had big swastikas and helpful little signs that say things like 'floating Nazi fortress'.
  2. Not a combination of words one usually finds in English text.
  3. After that, you deserve anything bad that happens. Keeping it civil isn't that hard.
  4. I sometimes pick up moderns with tribute covers to golden age things in my focus. This is one of those. @Brando- will be proud.
  5. Yes, agreed. This is Raymond. And this is Pitt
  6. The best thing about FCBD around here is all the excited kids in the store. Great to see.
  7. I'm still waiting to find a copy of the original comic, but I got a very nicely done reprint of this one: The artist was Stanley Pitt (written by Frank Ashley). There are two schools of thought on Pitt's work. One has him as the best Australian comic artist, and the other is wrong. Here are a couple of interior pages:
  8. Happened to me last week too. On items I listed for $7.95 with free shipping.
  9. I think I've seen them on eBay from time to time. I have never heard of the restaurants though.
  10. I have also contemplated buying some of the 'your friend the atom' type giveaways from time to time. The dawn of the atomic age was simultaneously dreadful and optimistic - an interesting period.
  11. I'd advertise them at the grade they are, but point out the stamps in your description. So, something like " book is in fine condition, but has a UK price stamp". Let the buyer decide how much they deduct for that.
  12. As someone who has been collecting American comics in Australia for over a decade now, can I gently suggest that you're thinking about that the wrong way? Yes, the books are hard to find in Australia (but keep looking, I have had some excellent local buys) but you shouldn't pay any more premium to get them locally than the cost of shipping them from the US. Some sellers here will do that, and all of the big dealers will. The postage costs from My Comic Shop in Texas are very reasonable (about US$15), so look at their extensive stock and see what you can find.
  13. In the same box as the Planet was this little gem. This comic is surprisingly thick - 32 pages, with 30 pages of story of a single row of panels each. Earlyish Barks (1946), complete with the long necked version of our hero. The story was reprinted in WDC&S #571 (1992), which I dug out for this UTC combo. Given that atom bombs had been used to destroy whole cities by then, and the industrial scale of the operation had been reported (though not in detail) there is a very peculiar idea of what an atom bomb might entail...
  14. Don't suppose you have a #11? My war bonds cover collection needs that one!
  15. You're a brave man, buying that book with that single cruddy photo in the ebay listing! (Assuming it's this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/amazing-spiderman-14-cgc-7-first-appearance-green-goblin-and-hulk-appearance-/232714540755 ) I note that the flash from his camera 'accidentally' washed out that top left corner... It was also severely overpriced. Heritage sold a 7.5 unrestored for US$2091 (A$2,270) just a couple of moths ago ( https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-amazing-spider-man-14-marvel-1964-cgc-vf-75-off-white-to-white-pages/a/121808-14218.s ) Here's my advice - take advantage of the cracked case to save yourself from a bad deal, and return it (registered post) for a refund.
  16. I have a reprint of that - lovely artwork in the Reluctant Dragon story!
  17. Should have no trouble getting 5.0, and maybe 5.5
  18. As I said above, I thought I'd only seen it in the Barks library. But the GCD and Inducks tells me it was reprinted in WDC&S 571, which I have!
  19. I would have preferred a Barks cover. I'm not the biggest fan of Buettner's ducks. I'd have preferred Barks on the cover of FC 108, 147 and 178 too. One thing that surprised me when I opened this up was that the story is in colour. I guess that shouldn't have been surprising, but I'd only seen it in the B&W Barks library.
  20. Nope, a Heritage buy, purchased in increasingly expensive USD.
  21. I'm very fond of duck books and giveaway comics. That makes this a must have for me. Took a while, but now I have one.
