  1. I have a Barks estate book too, but I think I like the COA almost as much: Here's the book. It's in a 'wrong' slab so I've cropped the picture. Does anyone know if CGC would reslab it with the provenance retained? It looks undergraded to me too.
  2. It's on the book. Barrier's book on Barks shows a copy of Four Color 189 with the same stamp. I think quoting myself could make me go blind, but anyway...
  3. That's just a fantastic set of books Mark. All the way from the big early issues, through the golden age of the golden age, to the early part of the atomic age. Just great stuff.
  4. It's on the book. Barrier's book on Barks shows a copy of Four Color 189 with the same stamp.
  5. Nice one OtherEric - everybody should have one of those. On the topic of Four Color ducks, check out Carl Barks' own copy of Four Color #29 in next week's Heritage auction.
  6. I'm not sure what I think of that Van Gogh cover... it's kind of cool and kind of creepy.
  7. Great shot - those are not books you see every day! (I'm not sure I've seen many of them before at all.) I love esoteric groups.
  8. EC's New Direction titles are short runs and can be fun to put together. This one was my third, after Aces High and Valor (both of which I think are better comics than these). I'm hoping Piracy will follow in the not too distant future (looking for nice midgrades of 5 and 7).
  9. A couple more Australian Fiction House reprints to add to my slowly growing collection. Interestingly, the Kaanga is an oversized book. Like the Planets I showed earlier in this thread, it's about an inch bigger in both dimensions than a normal golden age book. The Firehair is standard Fiction House size (though miscut). I'm also slowly getting a feel for what might be out there. There's an ad inside Firehair for Cowgirl Romances (never seen one) Rangers and Jumbo, while the back cover of Kaanga has 'the big six' ad for Jungle, Jumbo, Fight, Wambi Jungle Boy, Rangers and Sheena. Now, if I could actually find some of those... collecting these is certainly a hobby for the patient!
  10. Nice stuff there Corey. You're branching out a bit - or is there a hidden pattern?
  11. That's from one of the Image 1963 parodies, right?
  12. Not surprisingly, EC's war titles featured their fair share of machine guns, even if sometines they were offstage.
  13. Nice copies. Is the second one a 15 cent price variant? Could well be. It's the earlier of the two, but has a higher cover price. Edit: that said, a Google search of this book shows only 15c copies. Metro has five, for example, all of which are 15c.
  14. Here are a couple of missing Four Colors I just got in. 1326: The Twilight Zone 01-860-207 1359: The Twilight Zone 12-860-210 (The indicia of both just repeat the code from the cover.)
  15. Just got a few new books in. I love Dells (Dell comics are good comics), but haven't bought any non-duck Dell books for ages. These nice copies caught my eye courtesy of the good folks at Mycomicshop. These un-numbered issues are #3 and #4, though the first two were #s 1173 and 1288 in the Four Color series. These two are 'missing' Four Colors - there are gaps in the Four Color numbering where they naturally fit. I also bought this one in the last MCS auction. Having almost finished Mad 1-23, Duffman_comics convinced me I should get the first magazine. Good call Peter. Lots of fun stuff in that one. I might scan a page or two.
  16. How did I know I wasn't the only one who got the PM. BeachBum out! Peace! That picture made me laugh.
  17. Nice one Marty. Who's the publisher on that one? I don't think I've ever seen it before.
  18. Ha ha - good suggestion tb. I'll go looking for another tortoise. For now, here's another Australian edition. No.231, which has the Barks cover of Gold Key #297, though the contents are different. Check out the cover price too - Australia moved from the British pounds/shillings/pence to dollars and cents in February 1966. This issue, and three others, had both the "old" 1/- (1 shilling) and new 10c prices. This is a really nice copy too.
  19. This thread is getting cold, so i thought I'd bump it. I scanned some covers of the Australian WDC&S for the GCD yesterday (I had a dozen they didn't have, which was nice), so I thought I'd share a few of them here too, just for fun.
  20. I believe the problem is raised by the fact you said it was graded by another company. You should have just said you were selling it as a raw book assigning your grade. The rest would (or should) have been uninfluent. And you still have to get back to me… (At this point, have a Good Easter!) Uninfluent is my new favorite, non-existent, word. It's regal sounding. It's perfectly cromulent. Thanks Vaillant for embiggening my vocabulary.
  21. by a very young Van Morrison. The song didn't get much airtime because of its length, but it's as good as anything that came out of the Psychedelic Era. The whole NY sessions that TB Sheets comes from is worth a listen. The copy I have has an alternative take of Brown Eyed Girl that I much prefer to the one you usually hear. Several Astral Weeks tracks get a trial run at these sessions too. I just listened through Layla and other assorted love songs for about the 1000th time.
  22. I got the run 1-5 of Impact in from Heritage. They were advertised as "average VG/F" and the photo only showed one and parts of two others (see above). I think I really lucked out with this group. I already had an 8.5 #4 (CGC, cracked out) and it turned out that the #4 in this lot was the worst, with an ink stain through the whole book on the top edge - so maybe 3.5 at best in my view. Here are the others, and my estimated grades: #1 first print (5.0) #2 (6.0/6.5) - lovely glossy book in hand #3 (5.0) #5 (5.5) Best of all - I haven't read #2,3 and 5 before, so that will be fun. Yep, happy with this buy.
