  1. Great cover, I'd forgotten all about it being a New Year image. There's a few WDC&S New Year covers - here's my belated offering:
  2. Just arrived from a boardie - thanks Matt. I hope to get somewhere between 10 and 20 of the 1-100 run this year. But the tortoise was chosen on the ticker for a reason...
  3. That is my favorite WDCS cover. Just classic!! How are the stories inside? All of the stories in this book are reprints of newspaper strips. (The first new story in WDC&S was in #24 but I think everything in this one is a reprint.) Having said that, I love the Taliaferro DD strips, and the Mickey Mouse is The Bar None Ranch by Gottfredson, which is great. (This is the original art. This story was redrawn for a much later WDC&S.)
  4. Those Raggedy-Anne books are great. I've narrowly resisted going after them myself.
  5. Just got this one in the mail today. No competition for it on ebay, which was nice. It was graded 4.5, which is about right, but this book is really solid and it's really nice to handle (and read). I love this Carl Buettner cover and, like others here, I think there's more than a little Walt Kelly in those bugs.
  6. And a thing of beauty it is too. (thumbs u Love those walt Kelly covers.
  7. Ummm... Mickey Mouse, anyone? I would wager that the vast majority of muggles don't know Mickey Mouse (or Donald Duck) is still in a comic book. Fair enough - but that's not what you said. BTW - where did that panel in your sig come from?
  8. Ummm... Mickey Mouse, anyone?
  9. The Archie is this one: The WDC&S was a bit harder. White 'Walt' with a yellow (probably) 'Disney' and something that comes to a point under the 'W'. The Dell logo is in a coloured box with saturation similar to the main cover colour - probably red and blue. There aren't actually too many of those combos to choose from, and the only one around the right time is this one: I think there is something else sitting on top of the WDC&S to produce that pointy bit. Note that the film stock has reversed the relative darkness of red and blue on both books. Of course, it's just possible that I'm over-analysing this.
  10. Indeed she was. My dog is a tall leggy blonde, named... Jeannie, of course.
  11. I have midgrade copies of two of those and wish I had more. Yours are stunning!
  12. Great book. Only guy missing is Stalin He was on our side. BTW - that's a very pretty 5.0 !
  13. Yes, I've got a couple of Heritage books that are much less bright in hand.
  14. I've read that WDC&S peaked at around 3,000,000 in the first half of the 1950s. The USA population at the time was 150,000,000 - which means that 2% of the population bought a copy (and probably two or three times that number read it).
  15. It could happen. Here are the others. Ouch! Some great recent posts guys - this is such a great thread. I'm still trying to work out how to catch Doohickmabob's OCD.
  16. I think it would be cool to own WDC&S 1-100. This will be a long-term project with a few diversions along the way, but here's where it stands today. Those of you who know the run will spot that I own precisely none of the hard or expensive books. Oh well...
  17. After a few excursions from my usual focus this year, I think 2011 is going to be a duck year. (That's the plan - it will not survive contact with the sales forum...) Here's a couple of warm-up books to round off 2010's acquisitions:
  18. That is a wonderfully helpful post. Thanks so much for taking the effort. (thumbs u
  19. Wow - that has to be the ultimate group shot! What great lot of comics - those pictures made me wish I could sit down and start reading them. Some iconic covers, some instantly recognisable characters, classic movies (Rod Taylor in the Time Machine anyone?) and some very obscure titles. Just great, great stuff.
  20. Scrooge, that is one great pile of comics. Good luck with the chase for the rest!
  21. Nope - I'm cash limited and those ones would require $ needed elsewhere. I'm looking for midgrade copies with good eye appeal. Nice 6.5s would be perfect (and would go with my others). I stand back and admire the 8+ copies from afar.
