  1. I supect that the store mistook it for a reprint - I might be wrong, but didn't gemstone re-use that cover on a VP?
  2. So, I was silently jealous of all those Vacation Parade # 1 owners ... Today, I walked into a 1/2-price book store and the first book I see is a FC Lost in the Andes priced at $ 800, that's right, no typo, $ 800 Huhoh ... I doubt I'll find something to buy in these parts until I found this more reasonable $10 book (well, I had a coupon too ) I don't know what the guy pricing these was on but I am not complaining I missed out on one on eBay that sold for $200 and it wasn't that nice. Nice pickup - he says through gritted teeth. But at least I know my FC223 is worth $800.
  3. I can see why! Whoa! Yeah - if there's only two Ducks in the pile, they'd be near the top of the list.
  4. Finally gave up on finding one in F or better? Other than mine, I haven't seen one. I haven't given up, but I thought this was a very presentable lower-grade copy and I was keen to have this run complete. I now have all of the original Barks Uncle Scrooge issues from FC 386 to #71. Pre-internet, this was unthinkable for me-I can remember buying the Barks Library when it came out because there was no way I'd ever own the originals. Next up - DD Four Colors and WDC&S....
  5. These beauties turned up today. This one was in a slab (emphasis 'was') - one of the 'other' companies. As a result it was slightly overgraded, but still nice. This one was an upgrade (the old one is in the sales thread). 7 Cities... And this one completed my Barks Scrooge run. (Yay!) I paid VG price for it, but it looks nicer than that in hand. Group shot to follow. And, yes, I know it's trimmed, but I'll live with it for now.
  6. Or Dodo with Gladstone and Frog with Donald.
  7. Lucky I have that one, or I would be seriously jealous. I think I paid more than $3.50 though... Nice pickup. (thumbs u
  8. Have you joined the Junior Justice Society of America? Do I win something?
  9. I got another shipment today (there'll be one more soon and then a long hiatus while the bank account catches up...) First up is a FC 275 (Ancient Persia). These classic Barks Four Colors are really hitting the spot right now. (Totem Poles to come later.) Then a couple of WDC&S with great Kelly covers. Odd staple placement on these ones - but it is a production fault, not a later addition. Luckily the wide offset on #99 is just outside the panel border in the first half of the book, so it remains completely readable.
  10. Now I have to say all over again! Sometimes I hate being in the wrong time zone for the selling forum. All jokes aside, great pickup and congratulations .
  11. On my list (as is the VP). Nice books folks.
  12. I am humbled at being deemed important enough to establish cred with. I just like funny books. Those are nice books Peter, including some I don't have. I shall take comfort that they are now on the same continent. P.S. Your books are in the mail if my daughter remembered to post them on the way to school.
  13. I love reading my books. I tend not to read the serials out of order. I have a spreadsheet page with the MM serials so that I can keep track of what parts I have. I go and read then when I have all of the story. Between the US and Australian editions, I have quite a few complete ones now.
  14. Ha ha - I'm happy to accept responsibility for that Jon. Lovely copy of a great comic book. Walt Kelly's letter to the readers inside the front cover is worth the price of admission by itself. One day I'll get around to transcribing it for the boards.
  15. You should be. Those are really nice copies. Too bad I didn't think of it earlier but I should have suggested a swap for the Little Rascals FC for this one Duck I don't need but have kicking around. Oh well. Nice thought, but as it happens I have that one. It has my favourite ever Barks story in it - the beautiful economics parable that starts with a tornado picking up Scrooges money. When friends make the make mistake of asking me why I like Disney comics, they usually end up with the volume of the Barks library open to that story. Mostly there are no further questions. I like to think that's because they have seen the light...
  16. This is me after going to the post office yesterday: Here's why. Exhibit A is the initial item in the southern hemisphere chapter of the beak abuse appreciation society: Those of you with longish memories might remember my bizarre rant in defence of the cover of #108 when you were talking about it. You were very polite when pointing out that you were all talking about FC108 and I was ranting about WDCS108. Anyhoo... I decided that I really needed a 108 for myself. I found this nice one: And I bought these two nice ones from the same dealer. I remain very pleased.
  17. Err, how do you feel about sending it locally? Done - PM me and we'll organise it.
  18. Glad you liked them. Great Walt Kelly comics - every home should have some.
  19. I have a copy of FC 1137 (Little Rascals) that came with a lot of comics I bought. It's probably 3.0 ish (no killer flaws, but spine roll). I don't want it, and I'll send it free to any of you FC collectors who does. (Postage $4)
  20. Wow - that 9.6 is certainly a beautiful book. But what you are describing is simply the law of diminishing returns. Of course there is not much difference between a 9.2 and a 9.6 and of course the 9.6 is a little bit nicer. The question we all have to answer (well, those of us with limited comics budgets anyway) is where we sit on the grade/$ curve. For me, if I could have every book in my collection at 8.5 I'd be a happy camper. I love the really high grade stuff, but the bucks required to own them usually put me off. Only you can answer the question-and only for you. I'm sure that answer helped no-one.
  21. 14 of 24 and coincidentally my 14th as well. It's not a FC 178 in 9.6, but I like it! That's not spine roll, it's printed a bit off-centre. I've mentioned that the production quality wasn't done by the A team on these... For the shooters among you, Donald is shown shooting left-handed* - as all sensible people do - in the big picture drawn by an unknown artist, and right-handed by Barks. Question: did Barks always draw DD right-handed? (I've never thought about this before and now I have to check some other stories to see!) *Strictly speaking, left-eyed.
  22. Wow - Hank, that is a thing of true beauty.
