  1. While it may hurt the desirability of the book, CGC does not penalize for the alignment of the spine. This is not what caused the 9.2 .
  2. A book can have no flaws and still get a 9.8 . To get a 9.9/10.0 the book needs some extraordinary qualities. 4 razor sharp corners, perfect staple placement, etc.
  3. I remember Nelson Dodd. He brought the Ohio collection to market. When I first met him at a con, he was more into vintage non sports cards than comics. I never see him anymore. Is he still around ? He was a very honest, knowledgeable dealer but I don't think he adapted well to the CGC era.
  4. If the spine roll is not mentioned in the notes that is CGC telling you the defect did not affect the grade. No reason to take a chance and risk possible harm to the book. To get out the spine roll, it is more than a simple press. Who knows if a book this old can take the pressure (pun intended) ? The upside is it will look better but probably get the same grade. The downside is a popped staple, detached cover, and a very poor decision. I would NOT work on this book.
  5. I agree. This has to be a joke. Yodisd, however, I think is the real thing.
  6. This is a great book. Why do you want Stan to sign it ? His signature lately is terrible and would deface the book. I would not do it.
  7. Yes, you are correct. My comments were strictly for the internet bidding.
  8. When you were winning at the 160 price point, the new bidder does not know your max bid. As long as he bids at least one increment higher than your 160.00 he can bid anything he wants, even an amount between increments. So he bid 201, which is incrementally higher than 160 = it's a legitimate bid and beats your 200.00 . This is how it works on HA, Clink, all of them. I realize you don't like it but that's how it works. You can bid between increments and win for as little as 1.00 over the previous bid. In fact, once you get the hang of it, it's fun and challenging to make the proper strategic bid and save yourself money. The smart play is to NEVER place a max bid that is exactly on increment, always go a little over the increment, never a full increment.
  9. Maybe some of this has to do with the fact that CGC will no longer recognize a book attached with tape anymore. It will now be considered as detached, which hammers the grade. Due to public demand, this was a policy change in the recent past.
  10. To be fair, 12/29 was a Friday. With the 3 day weekend Fedex probably picked up the book on Tuesday, two days to deliver on Thursday. What's wrong with that ?
  11. Did you look at the CGC website ? They explain the whole process here.... https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/ Regarding the most common submission choice, that depends mostly on the value of the books. Again, read the CGC website........ https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/
  12. I think you have a legitimate complaint. After the seller offered you a counter offer, he probably got a better offer. Before he had a chance to cancel his counter offer, you accepted it. Now if the book was sold on another venue, there's nothing CC can do. However, if it sold on CC, you have a legitimate complaint here. Your acceptance of the counter offer should have been accepted. I think you should call CC again. They should at least offer you some store credit or something. You were definitely wronged.
  13. Sorry but what you described is perfectly legitimate. Your high bid was 160.00, so someone else had to bid at least 165.00 (assuming at that point a 5.00 increment was needed). He did, in fact he bid 201.00 , which nudged out your max bid of 200.00 . Your bid of 200.00 was never the high bid. This happens all the time, with all the auction houses. Happened to me personally dozens of times. What you were expecting was for your max bid of 200.00 to 'own' the range of 200 - 210. Unless your max bid is established as the highest bid, that's not how it works. Look at it this way, if you had won with 200.00, the other guy would have been mad because his max bid was higher than yours. I don't know how else to explain it but this is the way auctions work.
  14. I had something similar happen to me in a HA auction and here is what happens. Assuming the 200.00 bid was your MAX bid, you probably hit that mark at the end of the auction and it never was the actual high bid. Someone else's high bid of 201.00 surpassed yours. Had your bid been the actual highest and someone had to put in a new bid, it would have needed to be 210.00 . Make sense ?
  15. Now this new bit of information does reflect bad on Comic Connect. They should not have allowed the +40.00 sale to happen. I would call them again on this. An accepted counteroffer should be legally binding ? Hoping they care about their image, tell them you are taking this to the Internet.
  16. That's actually not a reflection on CC, it's a reflection on the seller. I never sold anything on CC but I believe it works just like Comiclink where a Seller lists a book and CC does not have physical possession. This is a situation where the Seller simply backed out of the deal. SInce CC does not have possession there's not much they can do.
  17. Yes, realizing it's a ridiculous sale for a reprint, IMO this is on the Buyer. As you said, he 'mistakenly' bid multiple times over multiple days and paid the seller. He obviously wanted it, won it, paid for it. If someone on a Boards sale did the I'll Take It and paid and then wanted his money back, I believe we would side with the Seller. No different here.
  18. Regarding detached covers, maybe you didn't package them up properly and they were damaged in transit. Did you have them pressed first ? Show us some pics, it could simply be you are over grading. Using terms like 'almost perfect' leads me to believe you are new to all this. Have you submitted before ? Show us the grader's notes, that should explain your grades. Sorry for all the questions but you didn't give us much here other than complaints. I'm sure CGC didn't pick on you.
  19. I agree that I don't NEED a CVA sticker but if it's in auction and it has the sticker I think it helps me decide whether to bid or not. It gives me confidence that the Back Cover is not hiding anything, especially with Clink auctions.
  20. Wow, almost identical situation with the same excuses. Talk about not learning a lesson.
  21. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where a Bank is offering 100.00 if you are not greeted with a hello. Kramer gets a Hey instead of a hello and the fun begins.
