  1. It costs a lot more than 15.00 . Better start by reading this.................. https://www.cgccomics.com/services/index.aspx
  2. Agreed. So the 'game' is to make CGC think your impact chip is original to the book and you will get a higher grade. I've seen it happen, first hand. It works best on corner chips. Smooth out the wrinkles around the chip and they may assume it is original. Got a beautiful book with a lone, small corner crease ? Clip the crease completely off and they make take it as original. In the same vein that pressing cannot be detected, how can a chip be designated as original ? A flaw is a flaw and CGC should not guess as to the origination of that flaw. This kind of grading makes the system flawed and susceptible to antics.
  3. This was a nice pickup, amazing looking book. One question: who's Warren ?
  4. One of my favorite FF covers for some reason. I remember buying it as a kid and there was something 'haunting' about that giant image of Dr Doom. I am a page quality junkie but I concur the CR/OW designation on old labels can be deceiving, especially if the book looks otherwise bright. You are correct, the 8.5 - 9.2 range of old labels can often be picked up on the cheap. Nice copy !
  5. I recently had my first mishap, slightly catching the bottom of the comic on the edge of a 'spacer' (I think CGC calls it a wedge?). I had opened up the top and right side but not the bottom. While slowly pulling out the book, with the top and right open, the natural inclination is to slightly angle the book to the open right side. I think I paused or maybe moved slightly horizontal and the wedge caught the bottom of the book, incurring a tiny tear. In the future, I think I will also cut the bottom, thus having 3 sides open to remove the book.
  6. This is not a bad idea. I would probably use it also, especially with the new slabs. The early, old label slabs were soooo easy to remove. The inner well would peel right off, you didn't even need to cut. After safely removing maybe a hundred slabs in my lifetime, I recently had a small mishap on one of the new slabs. I'll expound upon your idea. CGC shows up at a lot of conventions. Why not offer, for a nominal fee, a service to remove your book while you wait. They don't need any special equipment = no overhead. I bet many of us would use the service and it would probably pay for their visit ! Hey CGC, what do you think ?
  7. I concur. If it doesn't spike now, with the movie, it may never spike. First off, let's face it, Marvel has a much more fanatical base of fans. Also, the book does not have any first appearances. It's analogous to Avengers #1, which never really took off either. It's still a cool book to have.
  8. While 15.00 sounds cheap, the biggest cost of getting a book reslabbed is the shipping charges both ways. I think all of you are being silly. 1st, it is perfectly normal for the book to move around slightly. It actually safeguards the book from damage. You need that wiggle room. 2nd, you may get it reslabbed only to have the same problem. There is also the risk of handling, shipping type damage to the book . Save your money and spend it on new books !
  9. The 9.0 on Comiclink is doing well. 65K with over 8 days left. It really is a good looking copy, very fresh looking, nice page quality, strong cover colors. Very deserving of a 9.0 .
  10. Sorry, I 'm seeing this much lower, 7.0/7.5 , Also, the pages look on the dark side. The loss of color on the thug's elbow is not good. The spine has lots of creases, most visible on the BC. There is a thumbnail crease on the top edge. The cover is 'dirty', colors a bit faded. IMO, it is not worth submitting .
  11. I think we just saw a preview of the next Comiclink Focused auction !
  12. Classic 8.5 . The bottom right corner crease holds it down. Great eye appeal, looks really fresh with white pages.
  13. This sometimes happens on Sunday night when CGC is probably updating their Census database. All books come back as not found.
  14. Actually, I still have the book. Here is a picture. It may be difficult to see but it is to the left of the A in Adventure of the title.
  15. Thanks for the FYI. Interesting. I had a SA book that looked 9.4 to me but had a 'printer's bubble' on the FC. It graded 9.0 .
  16. Well, I think I see some rust on that staple. To me, that is worse than the recess. The biggest problem with the recess is the fact that the paper is starting to tear. To be honest, CGC seems lenient on staple tears. I'm sure it will affect the grade but how much is hard to say. Hope you didn't get the comic wet by placing it on the counter by the sink !
  17. Totally puzzled by your comment ? The only reason I posted was to correct the Heritage BP quote. I added a few comments basically saying I like the services of Heritage but yes, they are expensive. Please explain why you think I have an agenda.
  18. Heritage is 20% buyer premium. Heritage used to have very reasonable shipping charges but have recently bumped it aggressively. To further explode the costs, if they charge you sales tax, and a lot of states now qualify for sales tax with them, they charge tax on the bottom line, inclusive of shipping. A rule of thumb for me when bidding is to add approximately 30% to the bid price. While I am a big fan of Heritage, they have the product and excellent customer service, you have to man up to bid with them.
  19. Wow ! I saw this book in the HA auction and was considering bidding on it. I love this issue and this copy is amazing ! You actually don't see White Pages on this too often. Congrats. I know you move a lot of books around, I hope this one is a Keeper !
