  1. I recently had to contact them about something similar. I patiently waited 30+ days before contacting them. I asked to have the transaction voided but, of course, they would have none of that. Not a good reflection on them.
  2. I totally agree on all your points. Also, notice there is a inner well wedge on the right side of the Back Cover. I think the Grader's notes would help us ascertain what happened here. It's possible the OP did not properly package up the book for shipping and caused the spine roll = this is the way it arrived at CGC. I just can't imagine the encapsulation was the cause. Still, the alignment of the book in the slab looks completely different than the pic. Note the OP's picture does not even have the book in a bag and board. Perhaps his handling was the cause ? Maybe sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard in a mailer.
  3. I don't think they take the notes as seriously as we would like them to. I've seen notes start and stop in mid sentence. Notes are rarely complete and comprehensive. Sometimes they stop listing flaws because there are just too many or it wouldn't make a difference in the grade anyway. Example, perhaps a book has a crease but there is also a big stain on the Back cover. The stain overrides the crease, it doesn't matter if the crease is there or not. So there is no mention of the stain in the notes. Looking at the big picture, TAT's and such, this makes sense. The revenue from the notes is not as important so why put more effort into them. It is what it is. They probably assumed this specific 8.0 was obviously an 8.0, with all flaws visible.
  4. Where did you hear that there is no communication between graders ? There is suppose to be communication between graders. Maybe you are thinking there is no communication between CCS and the graders, which they claim is true. If you really think about it, it's all so ridiculous about the no communication concept. I mean they probably all take a smoke break together. Of course they talk shop.
  5. Nothing of the magnitude of this book but I just had a similar experience with a book won from Heritage. They sent me a Fedex 'billable stamp' to use when mailing the book back. I didn't even have to ask. They also refunded me the next day after receiving the return. I am really impressed with the service of Heritage.
  6. Interesting. I avoid all 2011 graded books because CGC was extremely loose at that time, didn't realize they backed off on notes also. Must have been an emphasis on revenue.
  7. Wow, great looking copy ! Love that date stamp and White Pages. Always a cool book to own, a personal favorite.
  8. Trading Moderns for a Spidey #13 is definitely a win for you. Long term, the other guy will probably realize it was a mistake.
  9. Bryan, welcome to the Boards. However, we do have rules and your post is in the wrong location. There is a separate thread specifically for Want To Buy requests.
  10. I think the notation on the label helps the desirability of the book. It explains why the book is 'only' a 7.0 . Otherwise, it would leave you wondering what is wrong with the book. I suspect that if this book were graded today, the notation would not be on the label. They seem to put less notes on the labels since they starting selling the notes. Makes sense I guess. It's a great looking book. If the notation bothers you I suspect you would have no trouble selling the book. Let us know if CGC gives you a refund on the notes. You deserve a refund but it could start a precedent as most notes are simply not much help.
  11. I offer trade at every opportunity I can. I find most are open to trade as long as long as it's only partial and I offer a substantial amount in cash. Yes, you need to have something the other party wants, that goes without saying. I usually point them to my slabbed collection and let them come up with ideas.
  12. See, you are indeed trying to bait me. It must be annoying to you that I refuse to engage you.
  13. Actually the PM conversation was nothing like that but thank you for all your well thought out assumptions. For some reason you wish to engage me but I am not going to take the bait. To be honest, you're just not worth the effort.
  14. Wow. Looks great. Looks like some nice Page Quality also !I think I see some slight top edge stuff going on. Is that a small impact ding on the top edge ? If so, maybe 9.0 . If just a bend, it sure looks 9.4 .
  15. Okay, I can see you don't mince words. So, no one likes me. Does anyone like you ?
  16. If you are referring to me, I agree ! I don't recall actually reporting him but, in any case, the mods took no action (which I think was appropriate as it was a newbie mistake). BTW, Rye reached out to me, via PM, and apologized. Kudos to him for taking the high road. We chatted a long while and I think I can safely say we are now friends ! He is definitely a gentlemen and a scholar !
  17. I'd like to see it do well but I don't think Doug will recoup his money. His purchase is in GPA @ 108K . I don't think it will go that high. Because it's Heritage, with a deep pocket clientele, it may hit 100K . The trouble is if it doesn't hit 100K now, with the movie excitement, it may never hit it.
  18. In reference to the Pedigree 9.0, Doug paid a really aggressive price for it and had to put it in auction with a reserve. While it's a nice copy, I just don't think it is a strong 9.0 . I think the 80+K bid was a good offer, a fair price for this book. Now, he's moved it to Heritage. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't judge the marketplace on this specific book.
  19. It's difficult to get a pedigree designation from CGC. Besides volume, they need to be consistently high grade. From the CGC website.... The collection must be high-grade. Comics from the Silver Age in general would have to be 9.2 and higher, and a collection of exclusive Silver Age material must have an average grade of 9.4. Golden Age comics would have to be high-grade as well.
  20. How do you ever find a specific book ? I would be afraid of popping some staples this way
  21. Letting the alignment slide is okay, however, I don't agree that a book with a tear should ever get a 9.8 . A tear is a tear, no matter how it happened.
  22. For what I consider my top tier books, I use a halfback in a 1mil Mylite, taped down tightly in the back, with the comic placed 'upside down'. This combo, turned so the comic is now right side up, then goes into a 4mil mylar. It seems pretty sturdy, though I have never placed them on bricks and added weight. The fullback/2mil combo do present better, the colors really pop.
  23. Why worry about superior support at all ? Just get your comics pressed. LOL.
  24. Really rough spine with a visible split at the top, reader's crease parallel to the spine. I'm thinking 4.5, 'maybe' a 5.0 .
