  1. Have warnings ever been given by the mods for threadkrapping ? There doesn't seem to be an actual stated rule against it in the Sales Thread Rules . It's obvious there are a lot of different opinions as to what even constitues a threadkrap. - Ever see a sales thread where a book is way underpriced and immediately bought. Then come the comments about how it was a steal. Don't you think the seller feels like 'krap' after seeing these comments. Yet, it seems to be condoned and not considered a threadkrap. - What about all the commentary about how nice a book is, how good a price it is, why is it still here,etc.. Often, these comments come off as a bunch of 'krap', with the sellers buddies chatting it up. I'm all for being respectful and restraining from comment in a sales thread. I'm honestly just confused .
  2. It scares me to think many of these VIA micro trimmed books are still out there in the marketplace.
  3. I'm not good at grading books in this range. No major flaws, but very well read with stains. SInce CGC is so lenient in this range, I will say 4.0 . I hope this won't be another example of an overgraded CGC book.
  4. This statement is absolutely true. The first 9.8's on the block usually get the most money. The OP didn't really give us much information to give him a good answer. It would be helpful to know what kind of books he is submitting.
  5. Thanks Lion. Good to hear confirmation on my assessment. Can I also assume that his claim about CGC 'changing their stance on Marvel Chipping' is fake news ?
  6. You're my favorite grader ! Seriously, I like the way you grade. I wish CGC was as strict.
  7. Sorry but I totally disagree with you. The crease is not original to the book and really does not add any 'history' or 'class' to it. I have no idea where you came up with the claim that CGC is changing their stance on Marvel Chipping ? Not true. They may be a little more lenient on MC but it is still a flaw, still missing pieces. Bill's book is, at best, a 5.5, IMO, probably 5.0 . The crease is very deep, it will not be treated lightly by CGC.
  8. You have nearly 1100 posts and you have never seen this discussed before ? Do a search on Newton Rings. It's not moisture, in fact it really is an optical illusion.
  9. That book looks terrible. It looks like the ink marking are smeared. Maybe an attempt at removal or an overzealous press ? IMO, that book is a 2.0 and I still would not want it.
  10. The selection of Back issues at most LCS are miserable. I used to buy new comics to have a 'shot' at some newly arriving back issues but it never happens anymore. I quit and I could honestly care less if they all close up their doors. It was nice while it lasted but the LCS is just another relic of the past.
  11. It depends on how it was submitted. There is no 'normal with CGC, a moving target. Look at the website. BTW, how long does dinner take to cook ?
  12. To be honest, they can probably see this was your first submission = you are not a regular customer (yet). If you were a regular customer, they may be more inclined to give you that credit but, for all they know, you are a one and done. BTW, how did the Purple turn into a Blue ? I'm still confused by a lot here as the details were not disclosed, like did you send it in the slab, did you get it pressed first, etc. These things make a difference as it is not always the fault of CGC.
  13. Well, the lowest level tier has a current TAT of 60 business days, not sure if that is what he wants. SInce I don't know what books he is submitting it's really difficult to say. I understand the concept of when the value is close, put it in the lower tier but simply putting everything into the lowest tier, not sure if that is a good thing. Personally, I always like to get my books back as soon as possible and would rather use a higher tier. Should you get a hamburger or a hot dog ? I have no opinion.
  14. In the old days, threads that started getting too heated could be solved by posting 'naughty' pictures. Some threads were even dedicated to the 'naughty' pictures. I do miss those threads. It's a politically correct world today and I suspect some get offended by certain banter. Teasing gets interpreted as disrespect. Many new guys are short tempered. It's just not here, it's pervasive. I feel old.
  15. I agree with you. For those that argue we have too many rules, requiring different categories for the sales threads seems a classic overkill.
  16. Interesting. I don't remember ever seeing this before. Maybe when I first signed up. If this is the #7 you are refering to, it is very broad scoped, almost to the point that every thread has been violated. 'Hijacking of other people's threads in a way that stifles the originally intended topic against the objections of the thread creator'. So, there is no 'krap' rule specifically in Selling thread Rules ?I really could not find anything. Don't get me wrong, I am not an advocate of 'threadkrapping' , I'm just trying to figure out what specifically constitutes a 'threadkrap' in the Boards viewpoint.
  17. Hey, I agree and I did not, out of respect for the 'krap', bring it up in his thread. I brought it up here as an 'I hate it when a Seller does this' comment. I'm not so sure I completely agree with the buyer beware comment though. I always thought the Boards were regarded as a friendlier, no antics, type of atmosphere. I do understand your point of where does the 'krapping' end. I still don't understand how all the silly stuff is allowed. Sometimes it takes three pages to get to the actual merchandise being sold because of all the banter. How is this not 'krapping' ?
  18. You're a tough grader ! I wish you worked for CGC, seriously ! Sometimes, when grading in these threads, I don't assign the grade I feel it deserves but the grade CGC will give it. CGC is so loose in these mid grade areas.
  19. Very cool book. Congrats ! CGC made a wise decision with how they grade double covers. To discourage the removal of the outer cover, they assign the higher of the two grades.
  20. Good information, very good information but I can see the light bulbs going on in the minds of all the DIY pressers. It is disconcerting to think that the name of the game today is to fool, or get stuff, by CGC. Removing stains that CGC cannot detect should not be rewarded, it should be frowned upon. Ultimately, the book worked on will settle into the hands of a collector who will never know a book was manipulated. I once had a key book in CGC 8.5 that looked a lot nicer. I showed it to Matt Nelson for a possible press. He said, because of some stains, the book would remain 8.5 . I eventually sold the book, as is, and saw it later in the marketplace as a 9.2, and then an overgraded 9.4 . Same book, pedigree designation. I'm sure it happens all the time.
  21. I always thought 'threadkrapping' was a Board courtesy. Is it actual a Rule ? I don't see it in the Architect's list of Selling Rules. I know I see a lot of 'silliness' in sales threads that seems to be accepted but sure seems like 'krapping' to me. I remember years ago the Boards frowning upon a Seller advertising a book as 'upgradeable to X'. Now, it's normal advertising. BTW, doesn't bother me. So what exactly constitues a thread 'krap' ?
  22. Interesting. I just looked up CGC's defintiion of the Conserved label and it does reference 'certain kinds of cleaning' . Now, what the heck that means is beyond me Specific repairs done to improve the structural integrity and long-term preservation of a comic book will now be classified as “conservation” and designated with a blue / purple label. These repairs include tear seals, support, staple replacement, piece reattachment and certain kinds of cleaning.
  23. I see a lot of top edge wear. There is a color scrape on the upper spine. A vertical reading crease along some of the spine. A crease bottom lower left. I would grade this in the 7.0 area. Nice book !
