  1. Was the current owner the person that originally submitted the book ? Since the slab was cracked to remove restoration, I don't see CGC accepting any kind of liability. Not only that, you said the glue has already been removed, correct ? I would say that completely removes them of any responsibility. I've never heard of CGC being held liable for the accuracy of their notes. It sounds like a resto removal gone bad. The whole crack and unrestore game is a roll of the dice anyway. Sorry.
  2. Just saw Kav's comment about taxes. Maybe you just crossed some kind of threshold. Maybe you don't want this transaction to go through.
  3. I don't think they would ever ask for a SS number, let alone your Driver's license. I would NOT send any pics. This sounds off.
  4. Ouch. Sorry this happened to you. What made you decide to crack it open in the first place ? If you bought it already cracked out, I would be suspicous of the seller doing some funny business. Historically, CGC has taken the posture that their liability stops after the book is cracked open. Now, CGC is very good at accepting responsibility. If the book was sent to them in the slab for review, I'm sure they would have done something for you. Otherwise, I think all bets are off. However, it can't hurt to contact them. Only asking for a free regrade may be something they can live with. Good luck and keep us in the loop !
  5. Just give it to one of those DIY Pressers. They don't give up. They will keep pressing it over and over again until the crease is welded back together.
  6. Too many other variables to consider for me to give an answer. If all things are equal, and I mean all things including pressing considerations, I would choose provenance.
  7. All good stuff, I especially like this copy. You do pick out some nice stuff !
  8. I knew it was a Green River before I even saw the cert. What's the grade ? The date stamp is pristine. Please don't ever get this pressed and chance smearing it.
  9. Cool book ! I think you are right about the Don Rosa's. I think the story behind the collection had him hang on to the Silver stuff. Not sure if he ever relinquished those later on.
  10. I agree with all your points above. I have a large gun safe and I have observed that generally the humidity inside the safe matches the humidity in the room. I think the key is to maintain a consistent humidity within normal levels. It's the fluctation that cause problems. I also agree that too dry is not good for the books. I think I would rather have the humidity a little too high than too low.
  11. DId you get it pressed before submitting ? If so, it may have caused the slit by the staple.
  12. You're right, the real 7.5 looked loosely graded also. You have to wonder if these were graded onsite or when most of the staff was on the road. It could explain a lot. Edit: Graded 9/17/2018, was that Baltimore ?
  13. 'Seller didn't listen to my instructions'. He probably asked him to send it directly to CGC for a regrade !
  14. Assuming the labels were switched, and I believe they were, you wonder how often this happens. Often, Modern books are submitted in bulk for the same issue. Maybe some of these 9.6's that submitters claim should have been 9.8's was a simple label error. If so, how many wrongly labeled 9.8's are floating around out there.
  15. Isn't it incredible that the submitter, most likely this E-Bay seller, did not notice the label errors ? Maybe we should let the E-Bay seller know.,
  16. I think I may have an answer. The submission was for two ASM 15's, one graded 4.5, the other 7.5. I suspect the labels got switched.
  17. The way to figure this out is to see the notes, see if they match the obvious flaws. If anybody from CGC is reading this, I think they should offer the notes here. Again, I hope this is NOT legitimate.
  18. You usually see an indentation on the cover from the staples but sometimes the staples start to pop through. It usually starts with a pinhole size break and it may get worse. So, I would say it depends on the degree/severity of this flaw. I thinkCGC is lenient on this flaw but if it starts to break paper they will probably downgrade.
  19. Usually an otherwise high end book with a full vertical crease will top around 5.5 . This book looks terrible as a 7.5, I hope it is not legitimate.
