  1. I really think there is no 'fixing' these if sent back. In some cases, it can happen post encapsulation when snugly packaged for shipping or storage. But whatever, if collectors want to send them back in, go ahead.
  2. Lion, there were some factors I can mention. Not sure of the exact timing but Borock left and Mark Haspel was at the helm. Mark was head grader when Borock was there and he continued enforcing the tight grading as President . Suddenly Haspel leaves completely and Paul Litch takes over. That's when the grading got loose, I mean really loose and 2011 was very bad to be a buyer. I've experienced enough examples to feel confident in my statement though I did not keep an archive or Journal to show you examples. I've also talked to many who agree. Even many sellers were embarrased when selling some product. I think it took the upcoming presence of the newest grading company and the return of Haspel, although part time, to get them back on track. BTW, I am specifically referring to the grading on Vintage material, I have no idea about Moderns. Also, this was the advent of everyone starting to press. It was no longer everything going through Matt in Texas. I think a lot of these amateur pressings resulted in the memory return of creases and wrinkles, post grading, in the slab. IE, when CGC saw the books they looked much better.
  3. Avoid any book graded in the 2011 timeframe. Especially in high grade. Very loose grading era. I hope we never see that again.
  4. I'm looking at his pics and those creases are color breaking, pretty deep too.
  5. In my experience, the grade date usually remains the same. IMO, it should remain the same. After all it is the date the book was graded, not the reholder date. However, they may be doing it differently now because of the new slabs and the new label design = they may have to re input the information.
  6. Big thanks to Greg Reece for these two beauties. I have to comment how great he is to work with.
  7. Actually, most, if not all of the dealers are set up on Wednesday. Thursday should definitely be 100% . I don't think you will be missing anything but crowds on Fri-Sun.
  8. First off, consider all the risks to the books from all the handling that will need to be done. All four of your books have staple tears. You have to be really careful with pressing books with staple tears. They can get worse. I agree with the above that the 9.0 and 9.2 will probably not benefit from a press. Finally, do not crack open the cases and send the raw books back to CGC. Keep them in the cases. This is very important, keep them in the cases ! I realize you are new at this and probably think pressing is magic but please, just stop and think about what a press can accomplish. Can it remove the staple tears ? Can it remove the soiling ? Of course not. Can it get rid of spine creases ? Maybe, maybe not. It works best for light folds that do not break color. Good luck but please think your actions through. Don't overreact.
  9. With over 51,00 posts you have posted more than 99% of the people who post here. And if we could count words, make it 100% !
  10. Maybe CGC thought the missing piece was less obvious at the bottom and got a bump. However, in a previous thread discussing BC vs FC flaws, they have claimed to treat all flaws the same, no matter where they are located. I'm sorry that HA book is not a 3.0 and we should not use it for comparison grading.
