  1. What is the 'usual rules' Not sure what you mean by 'wait your turn'. Perhaps you are being humorous and it went over my head. I think you need to read the Board Selling rules before you continue.
  2. Cool signature. Comparing it to the OP's example, your example shows the signature smooth and flowing. The OP's example looks jagged, like somebody tracing with a start and stop motion ? I can see why he is concerned.
  3. The fact that it is categorized as amateur means it has to be scraped off . If there is bleed through it will actually have to be cut out. Obviously, they will have to analyze it in hand. I have a book with the exact same wording on the label 'small amount of color touch on cover' that I showed directly to Matt Nelson at a con. He said there was just too many spots hit and he would not do the work. However, I have seen some nasty looking CT removal results lately so maybe they have changed their stance.
  4. It really depends on what the tape is doing. If the tape is holding the cover together this could be a 1.5 or less.
  5. It's nice to see you have such a high opinion of the Boards. I read another post of yours, in a different thread, same emotional theme. Why all the angst ?
  6. Sorry to disagree but there is no way the book ever gets a 9.0 . Guaranteed that the large, jagged, middle crease has broken color.
  7. Ouch, technically that should be about a 7.5 at best. It's probably only worth a buck or two tops, why do you need a grade ?
  8. I agree with the fact that you already paid to have it shipped there. Not sure, but did somebody say you would lose the Nic Cage reference ? If so, I would not want to lose it. I also agree that the seldom seen old label is pretty cool to preserve. Tough call, I think you should not listen to us and do what your gut tells you !
  9. Since the old label has CR/OW pages, I think you have a good chance of a page quality upgrade. Apparently CGC was very strict on PQ in the early days. However, 9.4 is a really high grade for a restored book, not sure if I would risk that grade. Is the book still in the old slab ? Can you simply get it reholdered with a new label or does it have to be regraded in this case ? If either you or CCS cracked it open there is no decision, it must be regraded.
  10. I think the real answer is 'it depends'. As Vintage pointed out above, the grader's notes are not meant to be comprehensive. In today's environment, with notes available for purchase, I believe notes reflect flaws that directly affect the grade. Sometimes flaws simply do not matter in the grade because either the grade is already low or there is some overriding flaw that takes precedent. Ex. If a book has a large stain or piece missing, the existence of a little rust does not matter, so it is not listed. There is also the factor of severity. A tiny 'spot' of rust is no biggie to CGC but rust that has migrated to the paper is hammer time to CGC.
  11. Perhaps the question should be posed back to you, why should CGC indicate Newsstand vs Retail on the label ? I honestly never heard of this request before and it doesn't appear that anybody else is backing you on it.
  12. Usually, if a staple is popped, the paper under the staple on the cover has been torn. Look at the example above with the Hulk 180. That is why you often see glue or tape on a restored book because someone tried to reattach the staple AND repair the paper. Now a detached staple at the centerfold is a different story and sometimes the staple can be reinserted.
  13. Nice book but I do see some spine creases, including a pretty big double pronged V shape in the dark area above the lower staple. The top left corner looks to have a bend and the bottom left corner looks soft. The also appears to be an inch long horizontal crease at the bottom left. Also, the popped staple does not look bindery with creases and tears around that area. It has great eye appeal for a 6.5 with strong cover colors, but I stand by my statement that if the book was high grade, it would get a Green Label.
  14. Actually, a popped staple is a general, broad stroked term and each situation needs to be evaluated. It can be detached from the front cover only, back cover only, or completely detached. The severity of the tear at the point of detachment matters also. If the book is given a Blue label, that means the severity of the flaw comes into play. You could be grading a flaw with a half inch tear through the cover. In that light 6.5, sounds reasonable. I'm not sure of the grade cutoff where they decide to assign a Green Label or Blue Label but I would think if your book was truly 9.0 or higher, you would have received a Green Label ?
  15. Yes, you did indeed make the comment about dropping that first cover. Good advice.
  16. Yes, it looks like it finally sold for 125.00, too low IMO. I think the first cover eye appeal held this down.
  17. Jolly, look up a few posts, it is graded, 9.4 .
  18. I don't believe Page Quality would come into play for a book in 9.2. It may come into play for the valuation. I am a White Page junkie and will always pay a premium for White.
  19. First off, nice book. I like the whiteness of this book. The 'old school grader' in me wants to give this a 4.5, the grade generally given to a well read book with no major flaws but I suspect CGC would give it a 5.0, maybe even a 5.5 with a press/clean.
  20. I'm not sure what you are asking, are you implying a 6.5 is too high for this book ? If the book was truly high grade, it would have received a Qualified label for the staple. Being a mid grade book, I suppose the staple counted against the grade but probably not much more than a tick or two. I think CGC should list this type of flaw on the label. It is very difficult to ascertain without the book in hand.
