Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
I wonder if the seller is a Boardie ? I hope the OP lets us know the outcome. -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
For what it's worth, the PGX copy is easy to find on E-Bay and it was graded by PGX on 6/18. So, chances are the seller was the original submitter. -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
I think we ALL agree that PGX is terrible and this is all their fault. However, assuming the claim will be a buyer vs seller situation, who should win ? I feel for the buyer but he bought it knowing it was PGX. This is indeed a Nightmare situation. -

RMA, normally I would not even try to disagree with you because you would wear me down. However, now that you have clarified your point better, I think I agree with you. You cannot challenge the grade, as that is subjective, but you can challenge the fact there was undetected resto. I'm still unclear on who you think is at fault here, buyer or seller ? I know it's PGX's fault but who should win this case if it's buyer vs seller ? -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
Lion, agreed, PGX is terrible but can you lay the blame on the seller here ? Honestly, if I were to sell a PGX graded book, I would probably just remove it from the slab and sell it raw. However, I just can't get behind the seller is at fault because he owned a PGX book and sold it. -

I totally agree with you. There is no comparison between CGC and PGX, I don't think anyone here is arguing that fact. But all the comments here are focusing on the fact that the book was PGX. I'm stating this 'could' happen' with other grading companies also. Let's focus on the bigger picture where the book, in a slab, was resubbed with unsatisfactory results. I'm very curious how this will turn out and I am afraid of laying blame on the seller. If the seller is at fault in this situation, is he at fault if a slabbed book is resubmitted and it comes back with a lower grade ? -
Test your skill on my Conan 1
Bomber-Bob replied to Westy Steve's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I think a little better, 8.5, maybe 9.0 . I think I see some top edge wear on the BC, right in the middle of the glare spot so it is very difficult to tell for sure. -
CGC changing restoration labels now?
Bomber-Bob replied to Comix22's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I think this is an aspect of the hobby and 3rd party grading I dislike. I give the graders more credit than others here and I do think they can see and detect the fact that resto was removed. Is having resto, then removing it the same as never having resto in the first place ? IMO, no it is not. The book was intentionally hacked, not to conserve the book or to improve the appearance, just to financially gain. I hate the look of scraped off CT. This book should never have come back in the same grade. Also, I see no reason why the FB guy should brag about it publicly. -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
I think we are losing the focus of the big picture. While I honestly do feel for the buyer, he bought a 3rd party graded book, sent it to another 3rd party graded service and did not get the expected results. So, the bigger picture is who's fault is it ? If, as many here feel, the seller is responsible, this opens up more nightmare situations going forward. Say you sell a CGC graded book and the buyers submits it for a resub and it comes back a lower grade. Is the seller now responsible for this ? The more I consider this, I think the buyer took a gamble, lost, and it's nobody fault. -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
Look I'm not defending PGX but this can, and has, happened with CGC graded books also. The grading companies hide behind the grading is subjective rule and sometimes the last guy holding the book suffers. This is indeed a nightmare situation. -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
I am assuming the buyer has to return the book back to the seller before Paypal can take their money back. So the seller sold a PGX graded book and receives back a tainted CGC graded book. The poor seller has a legitimate case of 'item received not as described'. I think the buyer should get his money back directly from Paypal. -

You are probably thinking of a CCS prescreen. No analagous process for CGC, they proceed no matter what. They debit your CC the moment they receive your book and they are not going to give it back ! -
Nightmare situation with eBayer / PGX
Bomber-Bob replied to jcruzcollection's topic in Comics General
I agree, the seller did nothing wrong. The whole situations sucks but you can't expect the seller to accept responsibility. -
And how do you think the integrity of the grading will be if CGC had franchises ? I'm sorry but both these suggestions are really 'out there'. You want CGC to be another Amazon.

Whatever.

Went to a con and didn't buy a comic book
Bomber-Bob replied to Westy Steve's topic in Comics General
Don't try and rebuild your old collection. Start fresh with some new titles or genres. Regarding pricing, it's like the stock market or real estate or most anything else people invest in. You can't look back at old prices. -

Super lazy grading question
Bomber-Bob replied to cortown71's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Yes, the 150 is usable on your first submission. Sounds like just the right amount to use with your FF1 .You will have to ask CGC about not having a CC. I think they take checks but since the cost is sometimes a moving target, like getting a tier bump, I think they prefer CC. -

Ouch, sounds like they are taking a firm attitude about this. I am speechless. -
Super lazy grading question
Bomber-Bob replied to cortown71's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Good to know. I would hate to think people regularly get away with this. I don't think people realize that when you submit in a cheaper tier and get bumped, you lost out on the services of the higher tier while still paying the price. In this case, the FF1 would be graded and out the door in one day if submitted in the Walkthrough tier. If he tries to sneak it through the Standard, he would wait his 3 weeks or so and still pay for Walkthrough. Crazy. -

Excellent approach and it works. You can get just as excited over filling in holes in a DCU Variant collection as with a more expensive run. It's about having fun. -
