  1. There has to be an inside joke here that I'm missing. Why did you reference it as a Purple Variant ?
  2. Besides not knowing who the heck Barney is, I still don't know what is going on here. Did the OP advertise this as a variant for a joke ? If he's poking fun at his own listing, how serious can this thread be. I've never seen a Sales thread like this but whatever.
  3. I'm not advocating anything but I have to comment that some of my biggest wins in comic collecting have come from occasionally spending more than my normal limits.
  4. Did we ever reach a conclusion on the Cole Shave debacle ? AKA The Constanza Shrinkage mishap. I wonder if those books are still in the marketplace or they shriveled up and disappeared inside the slabs. Imagine going to your safety deposit box and seeing nothing but ash at the bottom of the slab. I suppose, as long as the slab was not opened, they were still 9.8's .
  5. Yes, definitely. Me too. Good times !
  6. But the new problem you now have is an upgrade of your #181 to match the #180 .
  7. If the slab itself has sustained enough damage, CGC will regrade your book, not simply reholder. You will be charged for grading, not reholder. Otherwise, SS books should be no different than an 'ordinary' book submitted for reholder. As I see you live in Bangladesh, keep in mind the shipping costs of this process. Also, make sure you leave the book in the slab when sending in for reholder, never crack it open.
  8. Those are insane copies. Most of them have to be highest graded ? You must have found a collector getting out of this title. Tell us the story, please.
  9. Not quite, it's tough to get a 9.8 with 2 noticable flaws. I always ask myself this question when submitting 9.8 candidates. If you bought this book in a 9.8 slab, would you be happy ?
  10. Yes, you have the whole trilogy ! Your situation backs my point that 180 is in demand because 181 owners want both, even all three for the complete trilogy.
  11. True, Jaydog is the real instigator here HaHa !
  12. True, but it's no different than complaining about a transaction without revealing the ID. It peaks the Boards curiosity, leading to more prodding. I'm not saying it's correct, but if you are going to say anything, be prepared to reveal more. Personally, I don't want to know, I don't care but we would not have been discussing this if not for his comment.
  13. So true. Most think books grade a single bump up and that's okay because the grading is subjective and many books are tweeners anyway. However, these big grade bumps happen more often than you think. I've personally witnessed 8.5 to 9.4 on a couple of my former books. IMO, the system should not support these kind of huge swings. It's not good for the hobby. But let's face facts, many individuals make a living from these opportunities. The discussion and disclosure about this is not openly talked about here. I'm actually surprised Roy opened the door at all on this in this thread.
  14. As an additional comment, you reached out to the original presser, Hero's Restoration, and they apparently took no responsibility with no offer of assistance. IMO, they should have said 'send it back to us and let's see if we can help'. Perhaps, CGC via CCS, should have said the same thing. I think you are seeing the personalized service of Joey here. He is an active member of the Boards, always reachable, always helpful, and within driving distance of CGC. I always refrain from recommending Joey on these Boards because it always turns into a Kudos thread. I am making an exception here because this was an exceptional example of great service. Good job Joey !
  15. Kudos to Joey for salvaging the best grade possible from all of this. However, I'm still not convinced this was CGC's fault. It was graded 9.0, which tells me the book had the damage when they received it, not post grading on the return trip to you. IMO, the blame should go to Hero's Restoration, NOT CGC. I understand CGC did not get back to you. Their non response was their way of saying it was not their fault. They are very good at accepting responsibility and if they felt it was their fault, IMO, they would have done something.
  16. I wonder if there is a DC cover swipe out there ? I know Marvel has swiped the Action #1 cover. DC just doesn't have the sense of humour Marvel has.
  17. You may be right. Besides the quality of the character and the book itself, I think there are other factors in play with this huge run up. First off, it is fun to own a book that is on the rise. People want to participate in this. Many watched the similar run up with AF15 but were simply not able to participate. Perhaps Hulk #181 is the 'poor' man's AF15 . It's a bigger party and more people are invited. Also, I don't see many people selling their copies either. Usually people want to cash in on their financial gains but they are holding back. You could tell AF15 was losing it's legs when people starting selling (and bragging about it). When you start to see multiple copies listed on dealer's sites and put into auction, that's when the party is over. Also watch the WTB threads. The WTB threads is a great indicator for demand. I'm not seeing any danger signs. I think this book has legs, very long legs too. BTW, as AF15 started to get out of range for many, they turned to owning an ASM1. Most buyers of ASM1 did not own an AF15. We are now seeing demand for Hulk 180. I think this demand is different because owners of #181 also want to own #180. It's not one or the other but BOTH. It's all good.
  18. BTW, I like your caveat of only listing one book per user. It keeps people interested and involved. Too often, one poster will list everything, not realizing he is taking all the fun out of it for others. Very insightful on your part, I'm impressed !
  19. Cool thread. I didn't realize how much this cover has been swiped. All of these examples, other than the #252, are very Modern. No swipes of the vintage variety ?
  20. I concur with the financial analysis aspect = is it worth it ? You only mentioned the light bends, were there other notes ? It really helps to cut and paste the EXACT grader's notes to get a proper response. If only light bends were mentioned, and they did not say 'color breaking', the odds of an improvement are very high, maybe a couple bumps higher.
  21. Yes, proper 'life jackets' will prevent the movement. I once had a book shipped to me inside a top loader, with a simple bag and board, undersized to the top loader. A couple corners of the book got banged up. It's like putting a book inside a box without wrapping to prevent movement. The concave pic was just an attempt to be funny. I've never actually seen this happen. I think I got this pic from a newbie post. He had gotten a stack of these free and wanted to know if it's okay to store his comics in them. Crazy.
  22. His response to a Negative reminds me of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi attitude.... NOT an official pedigree comic, nor did it come with the Certificate pictured.Buyer: Reply by harleypool (Apr-16-18 11:06): insufficiently_thoughtful_person NEWBIE YOU ARE BLOCKED! ALLbooks are official pedigrees, NOT CGC AS STATED
  23. Did you notice that none of his pictures showed the inside of the cover ? Probably because it would have shown the popped staple.
  24. What does your medical condition have to do with any of this ? How is it possible to list this book again by 'accident'. No way. Feel free to add me to your list of people to yell at.
