  1. I forgot all about the counting of pages aspect. Yikes.
  2. Wow, what a great copy ! Rich cover colors and I love the date stamp. Really nice copy.
  3. Great books. Will you have any of these in Chicago next month ?
  4. I believe it was 3600 . If a Boardie won it, please show us !
  5. Double Cover, White pages, tough in the census(highest grade is 9.4), and I didn't have a copy = picked it up in the current Clink auction.
  6. I purposely bid on more DC than Marvel and it worked out. Seemed to be much less competition and reasonable bidding. This WW is a double cover. While the first couple just fell into my lap, I think I'm starting to collect Double Covers.
  7. #24 is a really tough book. I have this raw copy.
  8. I forgot that I have a #23. I still remember looking at it before sending it to CGC. I caught the Back cover putting it back into the Mylar and put a small tear on the edge. I still sent it in but I'm sure it would have graded higher if not for this mishap.
  9. If you focus on that one spot on the 'H', I would agree with you. However, if you look at the totality of the 'spotting' on all of the big white letters in the title Hulk, it looks to me like moisture damage. It's definitely not any kind of intentional CT application.
  10. While you have genuine insight to the inhouse CGC workings, most of us have only our personal experiences for reference. Most of the knowledge I gathered was from years ago when you could call and talk to them, even exchange PM's with some of them, especially Borock. I remember my very first submission, using my membership coupon, CGC Receiving called to tell me my books arrived safe and sound. Wow ! Before that first submission, I was scared to submit but that act of service put me at ease for more submissions. Good times !
  11. IMO, the quick press is okay when it's 9.6/9.8 range with no creases, just light surface folds. Otherwise, IMO, I don't think it's very useful. A vintage book with vintage flaws needs proper attention.
  12. In my case, it wasn't the spine alignment but the return of numerous spine creases. This was a 5K key slabbed as 8.0 . Trust me, I stared at that book upon buying it, had it memorized in my mind. I put it in a safety deposit box and return, maybe 9 months or so, later for a visit. I felt like I was punched in the stomach. Looked like a classic example of a 7.0 with numerous spine creases. I no longer have the book = no after pics. This stuff happens. That's why I frown upon amateur pressing and 'quick' professional pressing. To properly press a book, it needs attention. Whenever somebody shows an example of an overgraded book, say a 9.6 with numerous spine crease, I always assume it was not a case of a bad grade, just a bad press that reverted. I'm also careful of avoiding spines with that wafer thin look. A properly pressed book should retain some plumpness on the spine. Regarding the spine realignment, I have heard, unless it's done properly, the book is very much inclined to revert. I am pretty sure the examples the OP is showing us would eventually revert.
  13. To be fair, the OP is using this video to show his methods aren't as bad as some others. This is true. If the OP wants to use an iron on his books, that's fine. However, I don't think these books should ever be placed into the marketplace. As mentioned by someone else, the memory of the original spine will probably come back. To iron these and sell them, while they are 'hot', as a higher grade is not ethical. I've had books revert in the slab. Trust me, it's a sick feeling to see an expensive book you bought in 8.0, morph into a 7.0, while in the slab. It happens if the press is not done properly. One thing for sure, I would never buy a book from the OP.
  14. For a while, I wanted everything in a CGC slab. I collect mostly Silver Age. Of course, there is a premium for anything in a slab. I have now learned to love the raw books again. For books under 100.00, I only buy raw. Books over 500.00, only slabbed. The stuff in between depends on what is available. To specifically answer your question, in general, if you want a slabbed copy you will have to pay more, no choice.
  15. With all the stress this caused you, don't have any mixed feelings about the outcome. I'm surprised/impressed by the excellent service of USPS. Good job, congratulations !!!!
  16. Great outcome but I am confused. Please clarify. Who gave you the refund ?
  17. I'm confused. It didn't seem to work. I saw no improvement in the spine roll. Good way to pop a staple.
  18. Not too long ago, I criticized a newbie for not taking his question directly to CGC. It was one of those procedural questions that should be answered by CGC. He said he did call CGC and they told him to come here and ask us. While humorous, it does show that CGC probably gets bombarded with annoying questions and doesn't want to be bothered anymore. I like to help newbies but I get very annoyed with the ridiculous questions, especially the 'how do I submit my comics' question. We really need a boiler plate for that question. This newbie's question did not annoy me because he was obviously confused. In this case, 'doing your homework' was coming to us. Still, I understand what you are saying. Next time, you can leave the 'bombing' to me ! HaHa !
  19. Thanks for the compliment but I bought ASM 1 off the stands in my youth !
  20. Back in the 90's, I completed a run of ASM. Mostly higher grade, never settling for any low grade place holders. After I finished, I started to collect Spidey Super Stories. I was never able to finish, just couldn't find them in high grade.
