  1. So what you are saying is this was not a wise decision to go on the internet and discuss the fact that this was an inheritance. I have no knowledge about the topic but I immediately thought he should have been stealth about the inheritance part. He could have shown us the comics without disclosing how they were acquired.
  2. CGC 9.8's are presold in the marketplace. The submissions come in virtually on Day 1 of release. Logistically, how would this be handled ? Should CGC hold off on encapsulation until the labels are ready ? I'm not arguing against the concept but if it affects TAT, they will probably get more complaints than compliments.
  3. Mike, be careful or Spencer may Block You ! He's definitely a shill or looking to get a 'cut' from somewhere on this collection. He should change his ID to the Vulture.
  4. Absolutely correct. It doesn't get discussed, but it often happens that a freakish E-Bay BIN will skew GPA, especially when it's the Last Sale on GPA. In this case, both sales went into GPA with the last GPA now at the, more realistic, auction price. The friendlier last GPA will 'help' buyers, at least for a while. For sellers, I would still price it at the BIN price.
  5. Sounds to me like somebody is pushing CC so he can get a finder's fee or perhaps extract a commission from the seller under the guise of helping him or perhaps both.
  6. As long as I'm blocked......... You bully, you mock. Do you have any positive personality traits ?
  7. Let's see if the Block function works for you. I think you are a bully that cannot take criticism. I also think your opinions stink. You were also recently bad mouthing Heritage in a recent thread. Now you don't like Comiclink. I think you are Vincent Z. using a fake ID. Please unblock me so I can sleep tonight.
  8. You obviously have a beef with Comiclink. That's fine but again, this is simply your opinion. If you read your comments to the owner, you are giving him commands vs offering opinions. You are telling/commanding him what to do. Not cool.
  9. Nice book. However, you are not doing the book any justice by taking your pics with it still in the bag. It's impossible to see the quality of the book without more clarity. It looks terrible in the bag.
  10. I'm sorry but this stain is pretty extensive and ruins the eye appeal. I agree that a 5.0 is probably the best it should be graded. In light of the stain, I don't think the tear on the inside page matters in the equation.
  11. Now this is how to express an opinion. I agree with your choices.
  12. Do you get a commission from CC or something ? Why are you pushing CC so hard with your forceful 'NO' command. This is simply your opinion. Personally, CC would have to be the last game in town before I would choose them. Let the guy go with whomever he feels most comfortable with. This is his comic collection, not yours.
  13. By now, I'm sure you have been contacted by numerous Boardies offering their 'help'. When one gets an inheritance, the tendency is to get quick some cash in hand, after all it is free money. If you contact one of the major auction houses referenced above, I think you will get a much better deal than making a private arrangement. BTW, the auction houses will usually offer a generous cash advance, usually about half of the valuation. So you can get some quick spending money and let them do the legwork and get some more cash later on. Their commission for all of this will be money well spent. Don't do anything rash. Call the auction houses before considering a private deal. Good luck !
  14. I think I see a long crease on the upper left area of the FC. I definitely see some tears on the edge and bottom of the BC, also a tear on the bottom of the FC. Nice book but I'm at about 4.5/5.0 .
  15. The encapsulation guarantees the 'moment in time' grade on the label. Without encapsulation the grade becomes a moving target as the book is handled. Also, the label itself needs to be encapsulated, otherwise, the book and/or label can be switched. In summary, in answer to your question, NO.
  16. Currently, it's difficult to judge FMV on this book. Looking at historical prices or last sale is not relevant as the market demand higher prices. Just the other day there was a thread with a 181 in 7.0 for 2,800 that was taken down when a GPA posted sale saw a 7.0 sell for 3,500. Even aggressive, strong pricing seems like a bargain within days. It's crazy.
  17. That looks like an awful lot of flaws to grade higher than a 9.0. A press may help out with the creases but the wear on the top and bottom of the spine, and the 'killer' small multiple tears are still there. To be honest, 9.0 appears to be a generous grade. IMO, an old label has some appeal. The page quality is an interesting diIemna. You don't see the Cream designation that often. It's not really an improvement if you get a CR/OW. If the PQ has degraded into a LT TAN label that would not be good. IMO, leave it be.
  18. I think he said NO hours on the phone with customer service. He was relating a positive experience without the normal hassles.
  19. I agree. I would seriously advise considering this option. Just call them up. With this collection, they may come to you.
  20. One would think so but it may be CGC is not aware of issues. Example, you drop off your books with the CGC authorized dealer. As they often do, they will sit on your submission, waiting to batch up a lot more submissions before they send it to CGC. They save on shipping in bulk. So you are waiting for months and your submission has not even reached CGC. There is a thread about a dealer in Canada that saw submissions taking up to a year. Now all of this would be transparent to CGC. Anyway, IMO, it's best to submit yourself. Faster and safer !
  21. That's sounds like a plan ! If you change your mind, you can always get it signed in the future but you cannot get it removed. I think the blue label pedigree will be easy to move as is . It's a really nice looking book.
  22. While many, like you, doesn't think it matters, many Pedigree collectors frown upon a signature. I think the logic is books from the same Pedigree usually share the same characteristics. Adding a signature negates this, it's no longer 'original'. While not wishing to debate this the fact is it does alienate many Pedigree collectors. From a financial standpoint, not everyone likes signature, especially on high grade books. You are limiting your market when you add a signature. Also, you will lessen your market even further as many Pedigree collectors will not be interested. Any premium for the Pedigree is negated by the signature and it may be a tough sell. If this is a keeper, 'put it in the coffin with me' type of book, by all means go for it. But if you ever change your mind and decide to sell, well, we'll see.
