  1. The new cases are thicker than your 2015 slab. It is normal on the 2015 slab to have the sides 'loose'. I don't see any problems here but I'm not sure about the smudging. It looks like it is on the case itself ?
  2. I had a 1200 bid before you had the 1201 = you guessed right and outbid me by 1.00 . Didn't matter as the 1301 came in late and beat us both. I actually thought the book would do better. If you didn't see it, you might have been disappointed with the Back Cover, overspray. It kept me from bidding higher.
  3. First off, CGC will consider intent. Is a spot of color an attempt at cover up or an accidental drop of a pen ? In this case, I think I see what you are referring to. To me, it looks like some pencil marks.
  4. First off, Pete (Comics4less) has the goods. He works very hard to maintain his inventory. He has an auction every single week and they are always robust, hundreds of books, accurately graded. He ships promptly, the next day following payment. If you pay Sunday night, the usual ending day for his auctions, your book goes out the next morning. His packaging is top notch and his shipping prices are more than fair. With this kind of consistent service and inventory, he has built a loyal following. With a great business model and good buddies in the business like Leroy(Lhcomics) and Moondog, it is no surprise how successful he is.
  5. With the cover barely clinging on, I would not risk a press. If the cover stays intact, he may have a shot at 1.8 but if it detaches, probably 1.5 . I think the book has a lot of character, it's very low grade but I like it !
  6. I'm not sure but I don't think CGC will encapsulate the facsimile cover. They would take it off and it would be graded as a coverless book. The E-Bay notes say the first wrap is completely detached and the pages are 'light brown', which probably means tan. There is tape holding the spine together. I would not spend the 700 asking price for this book and I don't think there will be any financial benefit from getting it slabbed.
  7. I only see one small tear. Doesn't look like one of those gripper holes/tears. I don't think it was bindery. I would think that tear would put it in 9.2 territory.
  8. Besides that bottom left corner, structurally it could be a 6.0. However, it is so 'dirty' , some of which may actually be a stain. So I am going to deduct a full point for the dirt and go with 5.0 .
  9. Example A has a nice spine but has that bottom right corner crease. The crease may hold it to 8.0 but CGC likes a good spine, so maybe 8.5 . Example B has some stress at the spines and the right edge looks a little ragged. If the press flattens out that right edge, maybe as high as 9.0 . Example C has a tear on the top. I can't tell but at the very bottom of the spine, is there a small split ? The upper right and left corners have a crease. The best I can go on this is 7.0 . Of course, all of the above assumes the Back Covers have no problems. That's probably why nobody is responding because we are only grading the Front Cover here. Some flaws, like the right edge of Example B, need to be looked at front and back. Good luck with the grades !
  10. I'm familiar with the angled right edge of DD#1, very common. However, this is really an extreme case.
  11. Didn't you submit your copy ? I thought the 8.5 would sell for more. I was bidding on it but bowed out late because I already have an 8.0 also. It's definitely my favorite comic of all time. Such a classic and represents the era so well.
  12. I suspect the creases were turning into tears. Hard to tell for sure from this pic but it could very well be glue was applied. What does it look like on the inside of the cover ? Do the creases penetrate to the inside ? If glue, or anything other than spit was applied, yes, that is considered resto.
  13. My LCS thought the Batgirl #23 variant looked pretty cool so they ordered a few more than usual of the variant. They sold out first day but I was able to get one on my regular Wednesday visit.
  14. Since CGC is already giving the book with bindery tears a 9.8, how can they distinguish the ones they may see without the bindery tears ? The service CGC is providing should give the higher grade to the book that is in better condition. I know, buy the book and the not label, but most put their faith in CGC and simply look at the label.
  15. I agree. These double sized are problematic. However, IMO, it's still a flaw. I don't understand how the community is so accepting on some of these flaws in 9.8 . If you bought a new car would you be okay with a big dent because they said it came off the line like that ? Again, just my opinion. It's a 9.8 because the CGC label says so.
  16. Nice book, great eye appeal !!! One of my favorite SA books. I also think it's a good investment !
  17. It's difficult to tell if any of the creases are tears. Solid book. No major flaws, no writing, a little foxing on the Back Cover. I'm in the 4.0/4.5 range depending on those creases.
  18. It does look good for the grade. It also looks a bit fragile which could explain why a press may be the cause but you are correct, it probably didn't make a difference.
  19. First question, did you get it pressed first ? If so, I wouldn't blame CGC's handling of the book. A staple can be detached from the front cover but still attached to the back cover, or vice versa. If the staple is completely detached CGC will either hammer the grade or give you a qualified grade. In your case, it sounds lit would remain still remain a Universal grade with a moderate hit to the grade. You can have 9.0's with a situation like yours.
  20. I did the same thing, looked very similar including the Upgrade entry, mostly on ASM. It was a lot of fun but I have long since stopped the run collecting. I may go for the first so many issues of a title and I like to collect the Last Issues but no more complete runs. I think all the renumbering and starting from #1 multiple times turned me away.
  21. It will sometimes happen on 1st appearances of movie villians. Tales of Suspense 97, 1st Whiplash, comes to mind.
  22. Just won this in the Clink auction. This completes my JLA run up to 31...... http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=915
  23. Go to the main CGC website and type in the cert number in the Verify CGC Certification box. See below.......
  24. ???? Why does he need a GPA subscription to buy the grader's notes ? You can simply go directly to the CGC website. See my pic above.
