  1. Maybe they are mad at you for bad mouthing the CVA sticker. Even for domestic shipments, it is not cost justified to buy one 35.00 book.
  2. Jim, FYI, these Thor books are Copper and should not be listed here. You need to create another thread in Copper/Modern. Sorry, not my rules but they are strict on this.
  3. Not sure if you had this book pressed also. That would add another layer of suspicion. I have heard of CGC shipping noting that a package arrived in damaged condition, in which case they would have contacted you for instructions. I don't think CGC tries to dodge responsibility with something like this but if it's in the notes, I don't think much can be done. Often, a tiny chip like this is the result of the book moving around inside the mylar during shipping. Sorry this happened to you.
  4. Ouch. Very unfortunate. If they mentioned it in the grader's notes, this implies it arrived to them in this condition. If it was not in the notes you would have had more recourse.
  5. I have to agree with this comment. One time I won a book in auction, from a prominent auction house, and after receiving the book in hand I didn't like something about the case. I called and they said we are selling you the book, not the case, sorry. I think they are correct. You are selling the book and all comments on the listing should pertain to only the book. The case is irrelevant.
  6. The large crease in the upper right FC corner will hold it to the 5.5, maybe a 6.0 range.
  7. Yes, I'm sure many sellers benefited from this technique early on. I know for a fact, it's still done, though I think a little more sparingly and a little less obvious. Here's an example of a less is more reverse spine roll....
  8. Yes, the grade did increase and CGC took a lot of criticism for it. I don't think the book would get a 9.2 today. Here is an article on CGC's website about the reverse spine roll. Please note they now consider this technique to be a defect. They also mention this technique is controversial. https://www.cgccomics.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?IDArticle=3501&CCS-pressing-defects-reverse-spine-roll
  9. Don't get too excited. It's not magic and you may not like the look of the book afterward. I would never get this done. Here is a before and after Constanza example. Note the way the right edge will look...
  10. I see a long vertical reader's crease along the spine. I see a very stressed upper staple with a decent size tear. I see a tear on the top edge of the FC. I see a piece missing along the bottom edge of the FC. I see numerous color breaking creases and stains on the FC. Going to the BC, I am not sure what's going on with that white stripe at the top. It may be glue from a tear seal ? As is, it's a 5.0 at best. Maybe with a press and dry clean you can squeak out a 5.5 . I just can't see this book ever getting to 6.0 range. If that's a tear seal on the back then you have a Purple outcome.
  11. I'm sorry but I think the spine realignment technique should only be employed to fix gross spine rolls. I don't think it should be used here, to simply move the spine creases onto the vertex or back cover. Supposedly, CGC now looks for this and, though they don't give a Purple Label, they will downgrade for the creases no matter where the location. I think CGC caught a big backlash from the original 'Constanza' episode and learned from it. Thankfully we don't see this process used as much anymore and I am glad CCS does not offer the service. You mentioned Joey, and though I may be wrong, I don't think he offers it either. Even though you paint a picture of an easy process, I think it is very dangerous, with potential for spine splits, staple pops, staple tears, etc. If not done properly, the memory of the old crease will come back. Even if it's done correctly it usually looks terrible. I personally avoid any books that I suspect may have had this process done. I've enjoyed your informative posts to date but I must say I am disappointed with this suggestion. It is not something a collector or hobbyist wants to see going on. Sorry.
  12. If you look at the CGC website, everything is explained. For the purposes of onsite grading, the Walkthru tier should be used for books with a value of over 3K. Read...... https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/
  13. The picture is so blurry I cannot comment on whether a press would help. Do you have the grader's notes ? The notes usually help more than a pic, especially with a book already in a slab. The slab hides and flattens out light folds. I would suggest you think hard about a resubmit. You do not want to chance losing that White page designation. That alone adds value and makes the book more desirable. Also, the area of the chipping is usually fragile, susceptible to damage. Why risk all the handling and added 'pressure'(pun intended) for the sake of maybe squeezing out a .5 bump. It could all backfire on you.
  14. I'm not so sure it's flat. It looks like a pretty big spine roll. The white cover seems to be yellowing. I see some corner impacts. I honestly don't know how much the spine roll brings down the grade. 8.5/9.0 range.
  15. Because this book was scanned in the slab, it's really difficult to differentiate between flaws on the book and flaws on the slab itself. So I'll ignore most visible flaws except for the spine creases, which are definitely on the book and say 8.5 .
  16. I honestly don't know what that is but I suspect you are correct, a stain of some sort. To be certain, you will have to wait until the book is in hand. Hopefully, someday, I will take you up on that beer !
