  1. Hilarious. At least it’s a creative alternative to burning the book.
  2. Absolutely loved 100 pagers as a kid, but I was a pre-teen, voracious reader at this stage rather than a focused, committed collector. The first comic I bought at more than cover price, from a mail order back issue dealer, the point of transition at which I got obsessively serious, was a ragged, ‘VG’ condition copy of Fantastic Four 20, in summer 1977. Discovering that ‘good’ and ‘very good’ descriptors could be misleading and a surprise to the uninitiated, pretty much immediately.
  3. Yup. Always happy to read good comics, regardless of publisher.
  4. Many comics now going for 3 figures or more used to be considered birdcage fodder. It’s a fickle business. The more you destroy, the scarcer the item becomes, as well.
  5. Characters such as Miles Morales and Kamala Khan should have longevity. Every Age will have a few characters with staying power. Wolverine, Venom, Harley Quinn, as in music, only one or two stay at the top for very extended periods without the audience tiring and moving onto a new fixation.
  6. Forgot about that. They were publishing Magnus, Solar and, I think, Turok around 2010 or so.
  7. Reboot with Jordan Peele. But, unaffordable.
  8. From the article, if he’s funding by selling off key comics, it does sound as if it’s being done on a shoestring.
  9. Not sure whether or not some of those original properties are still tied up with Valiant at present?
  10. I concur, and to continue in an equally intellectual and philosophical mode of analysis, they can shove it these days, more often than not.
  11. Regardless of venue, the asking prices in general have turned ridiculous and unaffordable for most people, for anything with a hint of key desirability or vintage. It’s painful to look at offers anywhere; eBay, elsewhere online, or here, compared to the cheaper, happier, more carefree days of yore. It is a shocking and scary situation, as indicated by the OP’s thread title, and I personally prefer to distance myself and not stare into the abyss.
  12. For some, sniffing newsprint just isn’t enough.
  13. Just finished Uncharted 4 PS4 on PS 5. In the end, an absolute grind on Crushing difficulty that wasn’t a remotely enjoyable experience and won’t be repeated. Ridiculously difficult in places, such as the Part 13 jungle section, exploding mummies, Part 20 ships graveyard, and the tedious climactic Rafe duel, as QuickTime challenges such as this one are a particularly weak area in my gaming skill set. Now onto Lost Legacy. Don’t see why the graphics in Uncharted 4 are so raved about as this sequel looks absolutely stunning in comparison.
  14. Mister Miracle 18 for me. A kid in the street was throwing it away, so I decided to give it a new, more appreciative home.
  15. Clearly it’s Kirby annoyed by Vince Colletta’s inking technique, and having a thinly-disguised go at him.
  16. A good point at which to return as the quality started to improve again around then.
  17. Absolutely. Then again, there’s also a lot of appalling art and writing dating all the way back to the Golden Age. No period in comics is immune.
  18. Fluctuation in interest is absolutely normal. Although, the insane price increases for back issues would scare anyone off. Again, that’s completely rational.
  19. I've always maintained that there's good and bad published in every Age. Moderns are no different to Bronze in that respect. Miles Morales' stories are worth reading, if a little dragged out by Bendis in his initial run of books. Reads better in Omnibus format.
  20. From Software product. The reviews indicate it has elements from all of their previous games; Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, in terms of play and environments. The difficulty is typical. Currently on my second play through of Uncharted 4, 'crushing' after 'hard' setting. Very tough. On part 20 at present.
  21. Good point, because Roy Lichtenstein ripped off, sorry, referenced, panels from war comics in his pop art.
  22. Just discovered that the Dark Souls videogame series based much of its lore on this, so I’ll definitely look into the title.
  23. Sometimes you'll get a cover with brilliant composition from a renowned comic artist that works exceptionally well and is very striking to many people, or, at the other end of the spectrum, there could be widespread mockery from the collector community, such as with the Rifleman and Alf covers. Either way, there's an alert to a clear interest in a cover which can be stoked by assigning a status symbol and marker to it, further to hype up interest, frantic behaviour and market price. More than likely you'll look at some of the choices and get an underwhelmed reaction, because ultimately it's all subjective and variable from one person to another.
