  1. Pre-Unity is the peak for original Valiant. I like Solar, with its two stories per issue showing events occurring in two parallel universes, one with BWS art, the other with Don Perlin art, contrasting styles. Archer and Armstrong was more light-hearted, again nice BWS art. X-O Manowar was good, with its barbarian vs high-tech concept. Eternal Warrior had some interesting variety as we get adventures of the protagonist in different time periods. Shadowman was actually a consistently good read for a long time throughout its run, even post-Unity. Magnus was a nice continuation of the Gold Key title, modernised, but with a similar feel. Harbinger is the sacred cow of Valiant, something generally considered beyond criticism. But, I was quite underwhelmed when I read it. A good story, but nothing really that special or original about it. Quite overrated.
  2. Yup. Something so bad that it ends up being an entertaining car crash to watch. Difficult, by definition, to capture that kind of lightning in a bottle.
  3. Always wanted to see Disaster Area… ‘A plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, they are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the Galaxy, but in fact the loudest noise of any kind at all. Regular concert goers judge that the best sound balance is usually to be heard from within large concrete bunkers some thirty-seven miles from the stage, while the musicians themselves play their instruments by remote control from within a heavily insulated spaceship which stays in orbit around the planet – or more frequently around a completely different planet. Many worlds have now banned their act altogether, sometimes for artistic reasons, but most commonly because the band’s public address system contravenes local strategic arms limitations treaties.’
  4. Yup. So bad it’d be the comic book equivalent to ‘The Room’.
  5. Hard to believe it could be worse than the Harley Quinn film. Or, more boring than Batwoman.
  6. I’d describe Black Adam as a dark grey, borderline anti-heroic character. He can show some degree of compassion at times, but that gets spoiled by the shockingly hyper-violent, destructive outbursts which he’s also prone to. Darkseid is pure evil, a god of destruction expecting total obedience. Black Adam’s perhaps easier to use as he’s a terrestrial character, rather than one that occasionally pops over via a star gate.
  7. The story where Thor proved himself worthy again. Great scene involving the alternate universe hammer.
  8. Squadron Sinister. No holds barred. Quite brutal in the Secret Wars mini-series.
  9. Saw a thankfully short clip of that as well. Utter crap.
  10. To me, masterpieces of literal comedy, especially Airplane! and its sequel, the first Naked Gun, and the brilliant Police Squad!.
  11. I never watched it after seeing Pizza the Hutt. That was so unfunny that I couldn’t even be bothered with the rest of it.
  12. Quality universe building under the aegis of Jim Shooter, then investors destroying the integrity of his efforts by focusing on churning out as much product as possible, without consideration for quality, to maximise profits while the goodwill developed in his pre-Unity days lasted.
  13. I agree. For several years they were extremely consistent, and then declined. Nice set.
  14. He does have previous experience…

  16. Too much: a different medium, film not physical comic books, but just like in the 90s. Quantity over quality.
  17. The complete film was available to watch on YouTube.
  18. The original British version is brilliant.
  19. Just picked up Demon's Souls PS5 for a good price; £19.99 from Currys, usually around £60. Already have the PS4 Dark Souls Trilogy so, after I've finished God of War, looking forward to more Souls-style punishment.
  20. No idea really about whether the film actually is good or bad, where it stands in the overall scheme. Too personal. No need for this kind of schoolyard schadenfreude.
  21. I think enough Drago for me in Creed 2. Far enough with the second generation storyline there.
  22. From the same comic title that gave us the equally-inspired Thanos Copter.
  23. Maybe put on the PS4 game and go swinging around New York for a bit.
