  1. It's better than anything I can come up with, but it still doesn't feel quite right. I think if they wanted to do that, they could have done a solid Mikey with a black bandana or something. Not that I have anything better. I'm stumped.
  2. Found this image for the color palettes. Some of them are standard and they start to deviate after a point: A: 1987 Cartoon B: 1990 Live Action Movie C: 2003 Cartoon D: 2012 Cartoon E: Rise Cartoon F: Gameboy G: Mirage Comics H: NES Games I: J: 80's Playmates Toys K: Archie - Stump Asteroid Usagi and Karai don't correlate super well, but they still have some references. Karai's stance and moves are heavily inspired by her appearance in TMNT Tournament fighters. While I'm not exactly sure what the I column references, I'll say that I do like that they gave Splinter an ethereal appearance like his campfire scene from the 90's movie. Nice touch!
  3. I wish I could say I am the owner, but alas, this was just a google grab for a visual reference.
  4. Maybe I'm alone in this, but does anyone play Shredder's Revenge? New DLC just came out including Usagi Yojimbo and Karai as playable characters and a decent number of palette swaps for all the characters. The new characters are unlocked right off the bat, but the palettes need to be unlocked, mostly through playing the new Survival mode. It's pretty fun because they don't explicitly say what each palette is...it's almost like it's testing the knowledge of fans to see if they recognize it. I also haven't found any guide that shows what each one is just yet. By default, the game is styled off the '87 cartoon, so some of the more obvious swaps are the ones from the later cartoon series: '03, '12, Rise. It seems everyone also has a Gameboy-shaded skin to represent those games. It also appears that everyone has an unlockable Black and White palette, an obvious tribute to the original comics. The turtles all seem to have a Playmates toy line palette that gives them unique skin tones and all-brown weapons. I've so far only unlocked all of them for Donatello. His last one is a bit of a deep cut...his outfit from Stump Asteroid. I'm guessing all the turtles have these. I'm working my way through Karai, who has many moves based on her appearance in TMNT Tournament Fighters. She seems to be the stand-in for Shredder...getting color palettes based on his appearances. One of them seems to be modeled after the 90's movie. In any case, I'm having a good time with it. The DLC was $8. I'd say it's worth it if you liked the game. Anyone else play it?
  5. Picked up this print from Michael Dialynas at a show last weekend. He says it was used for some of the movie posters for Mutant Mayhem over in Greece.
  6. My first piece of published OA was purchased from Timely (couldn't find his name on the list) right here on the boards a little over 12 years ago. I cherish this piece and consider myself very fortunate to have it. It's a cover painting to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #54 by Craig A.C. Farley.
  7. With Mutant Mayhem releasing this week and all the TMNT-related mail arriving at my doorstep, it's been a good week! Here's a print from Michael Dooney featuring Usagi. Signed by Dooney and Sakai.
  8. Mail Call! Dave Sim and Waverly Press did a Kickstarter a few months back where he remastered issue #8 of TMNT. Did anyone else join in? My books came in this week:
  9. Pretty well agree. Mutant Mayhem is a lot of fun. I found myself laughing or at least smiling a number of times throughout the movie. Probably about 30 people in the theater...not bad for a Tuesday night. The theater had 8 showings today as well, so I'm hoping it bodes well for the box office numbers. There are classic TMNT comic fans that are purists that don't like anything but gritty tales and realistic violence. As mentioned, Mutant Mayhem isn't that and those purists won't like it. I recently went back and watched the Rise of the TMNT series (at least what's on Netflix). The show is fun to put on in the background while doing other things. I initially did the same for the movie but found myself hooked and about 1/3 of the way through it I ended up just sitting down and focusing on it. To my surprise, the Netflix Rise of the TMNT movie was also a lot of fun! If you're open to different takes on the TMNT, I'd highly recommend the Netflix Rise of the TMNT movie along with Mutant Mayhem. Go see them!
  10. Heading to to see Mutant Mayhem in a bit! Until then, I did finally get around to framing my Mirage Jam commission. Very happy with it! If you haven't seen it before, it's: Michelangelo Pencils - Jim Lawson Raphael Pencils - Kevin Eastman Leonardo Pencils - Michael Dooney Donatello Pencils - Peter Laird Ink - Dan Berger Color - Steve Lavigne One quick note...framing got EXPENSIVE! Maybe it's just the shop I went to (I'll need to shop around), but the price for this same setup literally doubled from the last frame I had done 2 years ago.
  11. How nostalgic! I watched that tape so many times when I was a kid, I bet my parents could recite the episodes word-for-word.
  12. What a terrific event this turned out to be! The only downside was that other commitments kept a few boardies who were planning on going away. My goal with this post is to show how much fun this event was so hopefully more people will go next time. *Note* I had some other pictures, but some of them got imported to the site upside-down and no matter what I did, I couldn't fix them, so I left them out. Long story short, it was a great event. Hopefully they'll do it again next year for the 40th anniversary!
  13. There’s also an homage to the cover to #1 done in that Lego style
  14. Love the setup! Something I read on this forum many years ago was that some people worry about leaving slabs flat like that for fear of gravity over time causing the inner well to bow inside the slab, slowly causing a bend in the book. Ever since reading that thread, I make sure all my books are stored on-end (not flat). So my questions: Do you have any concern leaving your books flat like that? Does anyone know if there's any validity to the claim that leaving slabs flat for extended periods of time can cause bending in a book? Great setup, though. I really like it!
  15. Maybe this is a longshot, but I'm posting it anyway: Mahoning Drive-In in Lehighton, PA is a drive-in theater that specializes in showing movies exclusively from original 35mm film. They often do themed events or movie marathons. One night they'll show Rocky movies. Another week they'll have "Fighting Game" night and show Street Fighter: The Movie and Mortal Kombat. For each night, they tend to make a custom poster (around 11x17 or so) that they'll sell and I remember their concession prices to be reasonable when I went pre-pandemic (menu is on the site). For reference, this place is about 2 hours west of New York City. Why do I bring this up? Because on July 22, 2023, they're doing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fan Night where they'll show the first 2 live action movies from 1990 and 1991. The show happens rain or shine and there is the option of spending the night at the site and just leaving by noon the next day. I'll be driving home after the movies, but I'm definitely going. So...
  16. About 13 years ago, I asked @devilsrain to create a sketch cover for me featuring the Raimi Green Goblin and he did a TERRIFIC job. About a year later, Willem Dafoe was scheduled to be a guest at the Big Apple Comic Con, but his appearance was cancelled before the show took place. Fast forward to last year and a Dafoe opportunity once again presented itself and I had to jump in. Big thanks to Brian for the outstanding art! Also, I HIGHLY recommend Twin Cities Comics in case you don't know about them. I can't say enough good things: The grade was maintained It appears the window bag I supplied was used They honored my color request Their communication is second-to-none Their communication is outstanding. It got an e-mail when my item was received. Their e-mail blasts kept me up-to-date on the status of all signings so I could track if the Dafoe signing was ever to be pushed back or whether or not it had already been completed. I got another e-mail when the signed book was sent to CGC for grading. I got another e-mail when the book was ready to ship. When the book arrived, I got another email stating the book had been delivered. I recognize that most of these are automated, but it was so refreshing to get these updates. If you're on the fence, give them a try.
  17. I hope everyone had a great Free Comic Book Day! My youngest had a morning soccer game today, so by the time I made it to my LCS, I think there were 8 titles left to choose from...so I missed the TMNT comic. Don't feel too bad for me though. I perused the rest of the store and picked up a few books. As I approached the counter, I saw a giant TMNT Party Wagon, the likes of which I'd never seen. It wasn't in the box or anything, just sitting on the counter with all the doors open. I owned a Playmates Party Wagon as a kid and this certainly wasn't one of the reissues. I asked the guy at the counter what he could tell me about it. He brought it over and told me he knew it wasn't from Neca or Playmates, but couldn't tell me anything else about it. No identifying marks on it anywhere (though we did find a switch that activates the headlights!). The price was reasonable enough for me to take a chance on so I got it. After a little bit of research, I found at that this is the Party Wagon by Underground Arsenal. While it's a 3rd party company, the vehicle seems to be made for the Neca line of toys as they fit really well. I was shocked to find that I picked it up for about 10-15% of what I would have paid if I bought it new! I'll have to do a bit more research to find out what parts are missing. So far, I can tell there's a side-view mirror missing. I'm guessing there's more, but I don't really mind. It looks REALLY cool and I look forward to setting it up in my room. So FCBD was great here! I hope everyone else had fun!
  18. I do love Fugitoid. As robots go, he's got a very unique design that makes him stand out. His origin strikes me a very golden-age sci-fi comic-y. He was key to one of the TMNT's earliest and most fondly-remembered adventures. As someone said, he didn't play a huge role in most of the Mirage comics outside of that early story, but he tends to pop up regularly throughout the years. He had a figure in the 80's toyline (though with a different design and color scheme), he played a larger role in the 2k3 series (still my favorite TMNT series), he was voiced by David Tenant and had a large role in one season of the Nick series, he's in the IDW series, and he even popped up in the Last Ronin book.
  19. I'd agree with this. It's crazy how many versions of the TMNT there are now. It's like they're re-imagined every few years. Fun part is that I'm usually excited to see what's next.
