  1. Time has already told. I'd suspect Hulk 181 is one of the most commonly pressed books for upgrade, as evidenced by the expansion of the 9.8 census population over the last 3-5 years. No new 9.9s have surfaced.
  2. But pressing isn't "new" starting today. It's been going on for a while. You don't think people have been looking at Hulk 181s for the past few years? The reality is, pressing a book into a 9.9 isn't like just turning the press to "11" and watching the magic happen. Books that can grade out at 9.9/10 are FREAKS of preservation, to find a book with a slight, pressable flaw that could turn into a 9.9 is probably just as rare as finding a true 9.9, just because it's got to be an uncanny combination of issues. + infinity to the part in green. What normally gets perfectly preserved books a 9.8 instead of a mint grade is almost never pressable. Tiny bindery tears, tiny flecks of white at a corner, tiny, nearly imperceptible spine tics on otherwise perfect books. I would love to hear anyone post a "press to 9.9" story, because I don't think one exists except for people that are pressing moderns. Agreed. Pressing has shifted populations of 9.4s to 9.6s and some 9.6s to 9.8s. Populations of 9.9s have not increased during the pressing era.
  3. Bendis confirmed this in the Scarlet #3 letters page. Sounds great to me! Their run on DD was terrific. I'd love to see them put a 4 or 5 year run together on MK.
  4. 'Richard Koos' is in fact Danny Dupcak's mother's partner, iifc, and it's his ID that Danny was using. You do recall correctly, Nick. (Please update your Kelly pics for the New Year. )
  5. In case it hasn't been said lately, thank you for your work on this, Mark.
  6. Great work with the scanning/color settings, though.
  7. Previously noted. Of course, CGC can now spot micro-trimming, so there's really no risk anymore....
  8. Ewert's legacy will be a long one.
  9. Volume 2 just out in tpb. (thumbs u
  10. Are you thinking of Rafael Kayanan, from the short running Conan the Adventurer series?
  11. Of course, there's the flip side. The dealer is browbeaten, harassed, lowballed etc etc by some of the fine, fine citizens of the hobby..... then, as soon as said dealer has had enough and responds in kind, as human beings are wont to do, the instigator cries foul, usually in a public setting.
  12. You're a noob who posts a lot, so you have to take your licks. Good news is, you'll get to do it to the class of '11. He's been here longer than you, COI shill....
  13. Joe/Jduran1 (man, haven't said that board name in a long time) knew someone involved in the printing process, and she said there were around 80-100 copies that she knew of. I need to check in with him anyway to see how he is doing. I'll ask for more details. I just want to point out that this topic is not settled by any means. The platinum BS0 is still, in my opinion (and CGCs since they are certified as such), extremely likely to be a misprint of the gold edition. If the book's author, the EIC, and the Marketing guy didn't know about it, it was unintentional. Even if it was done on purpose by guys with access to the printing process, it still is not a Valiant released variant. It's akin the the guys at the US Mint who were making misprinted money on purpose to sell to coin dealers to supplement their income. So, until someone who was in Valiant upper management at the time says that he authorized, for promotional purposes, the printing of a number of gold books without gold foil, which is believed to be the only difference between the gold and the plat, I will not be convinced. 7-11 copies is definitely a book where RMA's comments about 'investability' apply. The 'float' is not large enough to make this a reasonable investment consideration.
  14. We now have the knowledge to 'iron' them out. Not possible. These were printed on terrible, terrible cardboard stock, and it's very, very difficult to find a copy, any copy, that isn't split someplace along the spine. As well, the cardboard is absolutely unforgiving, and whereas with a newsprint cover, or even a Baxter cover, there was a bit of "give" and flexibility to the spine so that stress didn't always result in permanent damage along the pressure line, with cardboard, there was no such flexibility. Once you bent cardboard, it stayed bent, permanently, no matter how you might try to "iron it out." Now I know. (thumbs u I hadn't been aware the covers were cardboard stock.
  15. We now have the knowledge to 'iron' them out.
  16. I was never interested in what ever they imagine I was with what they know and we don't . I'm concerned that Matt came to us and said he got screwed, refuses to show us the PMs, Yannis won't either and Matt tells us Yannis said tough luck and Matt is telling us he is unhappy with his response. He should have told us he is happy with the resolution instead of I'm not happy with it . Almost everyone agrees there should be some compensation for a bad desision yet Matt was telling us there is none. I'm going to respond to the attacks and agreements to my post from that point until the end of this thread. I've been playing catchup since I got home What would you like Matt to do? I suppose he could put Yannis on the probation list, but I suspect this thread has been enough to torpedo any chance Yannis had of being a seller in good standing here.
  17. Fine...but since this is a community issue...we'll need you to post all of those PM's publicly tomorrow so we can analyze them. i will but right after that ill probably be getting kicked of here if i say what i want to say to him Don't bother responding. Subliminal's opinion is an outlier. There's no reason to post the 'personal issues' of Yannis. The facts of the broken sale/contract were enough.
  18. Why, for once, can't someone come on and say 'gee, you know, I'm sorry, guys. I've used horrible judgement and I'll do what I can to right the situation.'
  19. No, you were completely forthcoming. (thumbs u And, FWIW, my opinion is that the 'family emergency' explanation is complete . It didn't stop the book from getting sold.
  20. Apparently, it was the option chosen by mt1000. Of course, you ignoring his PMs prior to this thread kinda rendered that option useless, did it not? You, sir, are the TFL of sellers.
  21. I agree 100% I understand the silence completely. First, there's enough gray here where nobody will really ever know the whole story (except those involved and those PM'd) -- and at the end of the day, this will blow over and everyone will forget. Second, if there's no plausible explanation, and it will end up just being picked apart, what's the point of coming on here and offering an explanation? How does it help them? It doesn't. At the end of the day, the smart move is to stay silent publicly. The reality is, few people will care or fail to do business either party -- so in the end, while there were hundreds of views, if the parties stay silent, eventually, this really has no where to go. A sound legal viewpoint. You'll be my 'one phone call', if I ever need the option. (thumbs u
  22. The idea less money was taken should be disregarded unless some sort of proof is offered, no?
