  1. So, what was the big news? Is there a Bloodshot vs Valiant Universe superhero beat-down coming now? The 24 hours are up........
  2. The prequel episode was fun this week. I can't wait for this series to start up again. Season 2 lulled a bit at times but this year has delivered the goods from show to show. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep it going. There are so many biblical characters and artifacts that can be used - this show could run for 20 years and still barely scratch the surface. One thing I would love to see - a crossover between the Preacher and Lucifer where God is listening to Lucifer play the piano at the club, unknown to him, until Jesse et. al. show up to tell him what is going on. You could have Amenadiel take down the Saint of Killers as well.
  3. Blasphemy! My kids get a kick out of watching the old horror comedy Friday the 13th movies. They were so bad that they were good!
  4. A nice twist would be Rey turning to the dark side and Fuglo Ren becoming a Jedi and killing her off...............
  5. Hopefully they continue with the more powerful Superman theme we saw in Justice League than the holding back boy scout we saw in Man of Steel. The only question is which villain could be powerful enough to go head on with him for that type of play? They need to save Darkseid and Apokolips for a JL movie. Maybe Braniac?
  6. Exactly. If they are looking to have a main event movie out every couple of years they need to keep some plot twists under wraps for a while. One thing I hope they do with a live action TV show is pace it like GoT: 10-12 episode seasons that tie things in between the movies or delve into the history of the SW story. It would be a great way to test new character/plot line ideas that could be woven into feature films.
  7. I have not seen the movie yet and likely will not now that the holiday break is over, but my guess is that the whole Rey as a nobody theme will be debunked in the next film as just a mind-trick by Fuglo Ren. While I hope that she is a descendant of Obi-Wan as a nice twist (he had a love interest in the Clone Wars cartoon), she will likely be a Skywalker. That way the new trilogy can have its not as surprising "I am your father" like reveal moment.
  8. The Moore run does not hold as well over time, IMHO. I started to reread it a little while back and stopped. It was not that great. At the time of release it was more siginificant. Gaiman's Sandman and Miller's TDK stand up much better. It is funny, we see the same situation we are debating now between ST #37 vs. ST #20/21. Issues 20/21 ushered in the change in the character and arguably modern writing, but the introduction of another second or third tier character (Constantine) is the far more valuable issue. I am not bothered by the fact that HOS #92 is more valuable than GL #76, or that 1st apps and classic covers will escalate in value more than other issues going forward. Other hobbies trended that way a long time ago and comics are just following suit.
  9. Frick. If Disney buys Fox does that mean Lucifer is toast since it is an adult oriented show and a DC property?
  10. Are the two characters strong enough to carry a film on their own? I would like the chances of a real Agents of SHIELD film with those two and Fury as the leads instead. It could deal with the origins of Hawkeye and Black Widow, as well as the history of Fury and SHIELD.
  11. Interesting. Does this mean that with Disney getting the rights to the old SW films they will go not push the envelope as much and get back to the Jedi/Sith/Skywalker mythos that the fans like instead?
  12. Definitely. This is the ambulance chasing side of corporate law.
  13. Nice. Let the class action lawsuit chasing begin! 14. The problem Disney will have going forward with the SW is simply this - there is much more competition for children/youth sci-fi entertainment now than there was in the late 70s through mid 80s. Specifically - comic book movies. Even though my kids grew up on the original trilogy, plus episodes 1-3, and the Clone Wars cartoon, they are more attached to the comic movie franchises. Basically, the Batman = Luke for their generation, Iron Man = Han Solo, and Wonder Woman = Leia (and the most recent version of Spider-Man = Jawa ). My kids were excited to see Justice League this December, not TLJ, and they are more excited now to see Avengers 4 next year than they are to see the latest installment of Star Wars. Producing movies that 1) do not connect with today's youth in a much more competitive market space and 2) alienate a good portion of your existing fanbase will lead to trouble for any franchise longer term. Maybe Lucas was the smart one and timed his selling of the property at the market peak?
  15. It looks like I am going to have to see this movie by myself this holiday break. My kids do not want to go since they have heard that it sucks at school (my son, who grew up on the Clone Wars cartoons, suggested we just wait for it to stream online), and my wife does not want to go either.
  16. No, this will be it. DC beat Disney to the box office with the first female hero flick. Marvel can beat them on the LGBTQ front. We have seen two prominent male characters kiss on Star Trek Discovery this season, so I don't think it will be long before we see it in a mainstream hero film which will be fine. Bucky has finally spoken about giving Captain America a boyfriend
  17. The FF will be tough to make relevant since it is a lame property in today's media market. Look at the Inhumans TV show..........
  18. Agreed. I was not debating value of the books, just the importance. Swamp Thing is kind of a character. Nobody really cares about him. However, HOS #92 being tough in high grade, the classic Wrightson comic cover, and a 1st appearance of a two-bit character drives the value. GL #76 did arguably usher in the DC Bronze Age, and it has classic Neal Adams artwork, but its value has waned over time as its quality of storytelling and artwork became the industry norm. It is the more important book from an influence on comics perspective at that time. That does not mean it is more valuable, as this is sort of like FF starting the Marvel Silver Age but AF #15 and IH #1 being more valuable books due to the 1st apps they represent.
  19. From an importance standpoint, it is a toss up IMHO. Swamp Thing is a third tier character, while GL 76's importance has waned over time. Adams artwork is better than Wrightson, though.
  20. Someone posted it in an earlier thread about the book, but to paraphrase: back then there was a lag in receiving sales numbers. GL was a book destined for cancellation which is why O'Neill and Adams were allowed to do what they wanted to with it. Sales started to spike after a few issues as readers caught on, but these numbers did not get reported until after the final cancellation decision was made.
  21. Flashpoint was hot a little while back due to the TV show and potential movie. Not sure if it still is. Blackest Night sells well for me at shows in sets. Some of the spin off minis do well also. I am currently out of all of them.
  22. Actually, I think that one of the problems the relaunch faces is the fact that Lucas had developed such a rich history and future already plotted and considered as canon from the novels outside of the movies. This is the risk for Disney in taking the approach they have decided to go with by saying the previous 20-30 years of Lucas and Dark Horse material does not matter (but I understand they maybe needed to from an IP perspective). They basically tossed out an established mythos that fans had already accepted as canon and built their expectations around. That is tough to overcome. As an aside, I would be curious to see what the numbers were for the novels vs. DH SW comics. My guess is that the number of novels sold dwarfed the numbers for the comics. I had a ton of friends in university that read the novels for a couple of years but not the comics. They would be part of the general audience now, not the hardcore SW fanbase.
  23. It is not that surprising. The audience for the the Thursday screenings will mostly be the die-hard fans that want to see something new, not another rehash of the original trilogy. From what I have read here in spoilers and heard elsewhere, if it is as noticeable of a swipe of ESB that TFA was for ANH, then those fans will be disappointed. This is likely reflected in the ratings.
  24. I thought you were going to pick up some keys this year? Start with the X-Men 1 and JIM 83 then work your way down in from most expensive to least expensive on the rest. Good luck with the hunt!
