I really haven’t found much difference between the state of modern comics, art wise, and the output that I’m most familiar with in the 70s Bronze Age and 80s Copper Age which predated the emergent transition to dialogue-light splash page art during Image’s notable first phase in the 90s.  A small amount of exceptional art, and a lot in the range extending from workmanlike or corporate mediocrity down to the abyss of the plainly incompetent, while repetitively idolising a select, very, very limited elite of creator gods through each period.

I’ve said it before, that if you analyse the comics of the olden days using a resource such as the online Newsstand, the above spectrum exists Age after Age after Age, right up to the present.

I satisfied myself by buying a sleeper book for £20 that he'd missed which I later sold for £200. That funded a Charlie or ten.

That's not possible Jim. A comic with a different cover price? I've never heard of such a thing.

Sigh,I'm a big fibber, you caught me.I guess I wont share the Magnusificant book.

Okay,I'm to the fartsac before we get spanked for talking and stuff!

Guess who's gonna be in the new Picard, just to drive folks nuts?

I wanted to Jim, yes. But it was one of those dealers who adopted the 'priced to never sell' approach to selling comics, alas.

I used to collect Amazing Spideys with Mark Jeweler inserts for which I made custom labels like so:

I sold a good chunk of them to one grateful collector. Years later, at the London Comic Fair, I found a group of them for sale in the boxes of a well known dealer. Like meeting an old friend it was. "What are these labels?" I asked him. "Oh, they show that the issue has an insert in them - no idea why the owner did that" he said, with a 'he must have been a loon' look on his face. "Oh" I said, "Right....."

    Did you repurchase for oldtimesake?

My wife has had tons of mind blowing items shown to her. I usually get the glaze over look. She has no concept of actual value nor does she care. She is well aware they are worth money. I have spread sheets and a short list of people I actually trust to contact when I go to the big convention in the sky.

I’m sure that her and my kids will have a new respect when they get that check in their hands...

Same here Bob-yah yah,yes dear..or oh,well, why don't you sell it?Coz the money will go poof and I'll have little to show but a frown. They're just sitting there not hurting anyone.Leave em be till I'm gone! But call this person.Make sure this person gets the call, nbecause I trust them and have asked them.

Not to be morbid but do you have someone in mind to take care of business?

Good to see you Ken.I have questions for you about John Polk clay pipes.(saw the Antiques Roadshow in your part of the world)

Also, never ever ever ever could be a Kirby hater. He and the staff at Gold Key and Charlton nourished my young mind more than others with garage sale buys back then and more with digging waaaay back before he used Kirby in Famous Funnies.

Ditko and Kirby ARE comic books to me

I guess that's what it comes down to, does it upset the seller? It seems like most sellers these days just accept it as how its done today. Some encourage it.

I do my best not to get into banter in anyone's sales thread. I just don't think it's the place for it. Others obviously feel differently.

    Threadcarp mafia represent!

I'll only do it if I'm friendly with the person and they put something encouraging it eh @Readcomix? That being said I'd never be so gauche as to whine about monetary this or that.Maybe give a compliment or say hi,tag someone I know that's had an eye skinned if I don't already have a pm going with them for a heads up

I still can't figure out how to quote 2 things, but @thirdgreenham  @porcupine48

Someone asked me to change a title the other day and I found out that you can only edit for the past year, that means the mods can only edit for one year.

Which means that if a HOS removal vote takes place, it only would take the person off the list for the posts that can be edited.

Just so people know that, so if someone comes back, reforms, saves the world. It's still going to be on those other posts.

I'm not sure that was what you wanted, but be aware if you have a poll and it wins, that's what you'd get.  Doing it that way would probably get more votes, so it might not be the worst thing.

It's really not a huge deal, but it'd be nice.I don't care if he's on the list back when he was alive,it's just a matter that he's dead now, didn't come back for Easter,so isn't going to reform or change the world anytime soonish.

Hope you had a great day, weekend all and all the lil's had a great time getting hyped up on sugar everyone

So I have sold maybe half a dozen comic books in my life.  (Well obviously a lot more back when I had my store, but since I sold it maybe half a dozen).  The point is that a 35cv that could be sold for hundreds of dollars isn't going to be sold for hundreds of dollars because I only sell when I've upgraded or when I shift something out of my focus.  It's like when people say to me "Sure, you can't afford any more comics at current prices, but think about how much more your collection is worth!"  It's worth exactly the same to me because I'm not selling.  And therefore it's only the price increases on stuff I'm buying that I see.  So same thing here.  The comic is not being sold, and I value it the same, so that 35cv that commands hundreds of bucks is only worth what it's non 35cv issue brother is worth.

    I didn't know you'd had a store!We need to get closer thunny.

I'm also a never releaser and don't really worry about the value of the collection, besides giving my partner a heads up on certain books, you know,in case....then she wants to sell of course,but....no.So,yeah,my collection is worth the same to me,unless I die lol and a few books that have went up enough that I don't enjoy having them so much...CoC#19,Archie#50-the two dozen ASM 300 newsies :whatthe:-some other silly stuff.

I wont pay more for a CPV,heckums,I live here ffs-but I will seek them out for nostalgia of biking to the corner store days.

Also,no inserts? I see a lot more being mentioned other than the typical Mark Diamond.

I need to know how much extra if any my Marvel Spotlight #5 National Diamond would bring. It may be time.

Also, for peds?A Church or one of that ilk, sure.Mile High 2?No way

And to get famously off topic-Giant Sized X-Men is now fetching silly silly prices. Were there not a pile of those in the MH2?

  11. Well,I know my connections not good enough to win and I've scored on 'killers sales in the past so I'll just drop in and say hey Mister B.

Still loving those books, even more eight years later lol Remember when you could hold a thread, back in the dawn of time-and I could even take the time to send lowballs? Sigh...glory days :foryou:

PS if all others fall through,I'll take that JLA....just saying. Will you ship to Canada at no extra on that if?
