Anyway, what I heard is this. A new member joined the forum. Just as it has happened many times in my experience, this person was immediately accused of being a shill. From what I hear you had a large role (maybe a solo role) in successfully convincing the mods this person was a shill, getting the account permanently deactivated. This person being a new member had no idea what had happened and called CGC to see why the account was banned. All was cleared up, the account was reinstated, and life continued on. Not registering at all. I wouild need to see the banned name, other circumstances, such as they were libeling me or calamerica-collectibles somehow, if what you say IS true, I will admit it immediately. But as of now, I really don't recall and can't recall without more specifics. Death threats are not characteristic of this community, so this community doesn't need any improvement on that basis. Ok, the authority has spoken. Let's shut this thread down and delete it. No need to discuss anything else moving forward. (said with tongue firmly in cheek). Just because they aren't posted in Comics General or made public on the forum doesn't mean other threats like this don't occur and occur more than you think. I was once threatened to be beat up here. I didn't say anything about it because I was brand new and quite honestly...didn't know what to do. I put the user on ignore and they turned out to be a shill anyway that disappeared quickly. Don't think it doesn't pop in my mind when i'm walking on a dark street sometimes. It's never fun to have a threat either in-person or written. It has a negative effect that could be paranoia or exagerated but nonetheless doesn't take away the anxiety associated with getting a threat like that. I can't wait to see what Dopont has heard... I tried to tell you all that the PMing gossip with false info gets around like wildfire here... i gotta go soon but I will be back I can't wait CAL gotta go real soon...

Thanks CAL. I'm really not in anyone's camp,,,not CALs or F_T or others.... I'm in the camp of just making this place a better community for us all to visit. Some here think it's fine just the way it is. They can operate the way they have for years and because it's tolerated...it's okay. Change will always have its detractors. It's not easy and people avoid change like the plague. But, change can be a positive sometimes. Either way, i'd like to dream that the CGC forum could be a kinder gentler place...but then I woke up. I hope that you, along with MANY others, can see the need to have the uncivil behavior cease. But I, for one, am not seeing that. I am seeing the old Status Quo: shoot the messenger, defame, deny, deflect, destroy. All for what? I hope many are reading this thread, and especially the outsiders. I won't need to have them read myposts for the proper APPEARANCES of what this Forum has turned into. And? it is allowed, thus condoned. By many. but not by CAL

Mark1, great post. But be warned, any appearance of agreeing with the membership idea will put you in my camp. I am getting snide remarks from people I did not know existed here, but because of the membership idea, it has brought them out if you know what I mean??? concerned CAL

Why is there an assumed correlation between spending a few bucks, or the extent to which someone participates in the hobby, and sanity? I could pay $500 and submit 100 books a year to CGC; how exactly does that ensure that I won't act like a d-bag to other people in this community? It does not insure against bad behavior. But I am betting my Aces Full that you would fall under the PROBABILITY of civil behavior. You would have something to lose, versus the trolls who rarely have anything to lose. I stand behind my premise of the membership requirement, flawed or not. CAL is actually trying to make the place better for everyone Cal, have you been given a strike before? Yes. How many others have quit or not joined when they see these threats and other troll garbage? Yes hard to quantify but i know there has been several, if not dozens, who QUIT here. Add that to the many who REFUSE to join and now are on Comics Corral or other comic forums, and this number SHOULD be easy for us to figure out. By playing word-games, symantics, etc. is not helping. Arguing against a good idea( posted by OTHERS I am referring to) just smacks of the threat of someone not wanting to lose the ability to be rude and nasty when the mood strikes them. We all have our bad days. I am trying to eliminate the deliberate threaqts, abd other troll-like behavior. I stand behind my membership proposal and the more backlash I get against it, the more I think I am really closer to solving this problem. Let's assume you're right: you're proposing altering the structure of this board - a board that has operated the same way for 10 years - just for an increased probability that people will be a little more civil to each other; in the process, you may be alienating a substantial number of existing positive, contributing members to this community, as well as possibly deterring future positive, contributing members from joining. Sounds like a steep price for increasing the "probability of civil behavior" in a place that, relative to other internet message boards, is already pretty darn civil. What about Randall Bartlett, who quit CGC becauseof the trolls? Why can't anyone see that CGC has ALREADY lost $$$ because of what goes on here? CAL must be ahead of his time...again
