  1. Good detective work! At first glance was thinking no ECs! On far right side, I see Wings #118 and probably Shock Suspenstories #7 - there also may be a different EC on top if the SSS #7.
  2. Another well organized and run contest! Thanks!
  3. GAtor's "Well crud" post perfectly captures my reaction to the news! Met Jon a couple times at SDCC, but sadly never got to see his collection in person (wrong coast). Jon really enjoy collecting, learning about comics, and freely sharing any information. Besides all the articles and posts, he always took time to respond to my questions via PM or email. Jon was my go-to source for questions about rare and unusual pre-hero and PA comics. Jon told me he kept Larson copies of A-M #15 and FP V4 #1, plus a few other pre-Centaur books and a couple of the The Funnies (1929) from CC auction - those were only ones I asked about, so suspect he kept others too. Once a collector, always a collector! First comic I purchased from Jon - I think 30 years ago - with help from Buttock:
  4. The oldest comic related periodical I've seen slabbed is The Yellow Kid from 1897. Like Diamond MR., it's a magazine without comics. First slabbed comic book I've found is Brown's Blue Ribbon Book from 1904. OSPG lists this as 1st BB comic book premium, though it isn't 1st BB comic book. From HA archive:
  5. You have a coverless copy of Comic Book Magazine. It was a weekly comic newspaper insert that ran from 1940 to 1943. This series pre-dates Spirit inserts. Don't know if contents are new or reprints. Ran in Chicago Tribune and LA Times, not sure if there were other papers. Took me a while to find it, but here's my copy with cover.
  6. Appears AA combined two titles for brief excursion into US market. Board is lucky to have a collector who actually bought GA comics off newsstand and even more amazing that collection remains intact! Thanks for the information!
  7. After bumping this thread, I too have been slacking! Picked up this rarity over 3 1/2 years ago, but still worth posting!
  8. Very cool cover! Though the wings on green Hawkmen look more like butterfly shaped bat wings! Marty, did you find these comics on US newsstands?
  9. Great pick-ups! Didn't appreciate Ryan art when I was first searching for Centaurs, but once I had one in hand, that changed. Really sharp copy of Star #6!
  10. Wow! One of the coolest (and toughest) Centaurs! Congrats William on another great pick-up!
  11. Smooth transaction on a high dollar book. Jason is easy buyer to work with! Payment was very fast. Great communication during entire transaction. Though hard to part with any book, this was a really enjoyable sale. Buy from or sell to with confidence! Thanks!
  12. Copies appeared in 2019 CC and HA auctions (earliest I could find). Since then several copies have sold on boards and HA. Most common issues are issues #1, 11, and 12, though a #2 exists. So far all copies are higher grade (many 9.4 or better). Guessing they were a publisher-type find of unused samples used to pitch concept to newspapers. Only the first issue has header for March 5, 1937 edition of Lake Charles American Press. Appears they were intended as a weekly newspaper insert, which would've pre-dated Spirit sections by 3 years! If you remember more, please post it.
  13. Great book! In my search, found it to be the toughest issue of title to find. Though it appears many collectors have been selling off their Centaur runs, it appears most have been finding good homes. Great to see all those great books being posted. Need to dig another out of the boxes to share! Maybe we can even find out more about the FPS Supplements!!
