  1. Nope, it is not Neil. Look closely, The cover lists him as one of the artists who has a story reprinted in the digest. The cover is Perez. The cover GL is a cut and paste of a single panel by Neal Adams from his immortal run. I do not know who this "Neil" is that some of you reference.
  2. Just got my first comic (Brave and the Bold 83) from faster friends. Book was as advertised, and shipping was prompt and securely packaged. Highly recommended.
  3. Got a NM copy of Avengers 30 from Val and was very pleased. Communications were good and package made it securely to Canada.
  4. No need to be ashamed. I think we have all "batted for the other team" on one occassion or another.
  5. Bought 3 CGC X-Men from Mitch. Books were shipped quickly and securely packaged. Highly recommended!
  6. My mom brought me a copy of Iron Man 55 off the newstand when I was in hospital as a child. I still have that copy, without its cover. And I have purchased a VF copy for my collection as well.
  7. Gil Kane did the most amazing Human Torch depiction of any artist. Look at those stunning FF covers at the top of this page. Then look at the Submariner 44 cover 2 posts above this message. Hhhhmmmmm....the Human Torch looks blah. Gil Kane definitely drew Namor on that cover, but the Torch looks more like John Romita's pencils.
  8. Metropolis is quite good. For an unslabbed book, you may wish to buy one grade up from your usual , e.g., if you buy CGC 9.0 books, look for their unslabbed books rated 9.2. You can enter your entire want list with Metropolis and they will email you matches weekly, or only new arrivals if you prefer.
  9. Isn't the Giant Size Spider-Man #2 cover by John Romita? I too was enticed into buying many 1970s Marvel comics by Gil Kane covers when I was a little kid. Often to be disppointed by the horrible art work inside executed by other, lesser artists. I haven't figured out how to post images here. Somebody please do me a favour and post Marvel Team Up #5, one of the first comics I ever bought. And it has great Gil Kane interior artwork too!!
  10. As we move into the mid 1970s, John Romita was drawing lots of covers, but no longer drawing interiors. Does anyone know if he gets any royalties when such a book is reprinted? Or is it only the interior penciler/inker who get a royalty?
  11. Looks like the tail end of his name on the cover of #139.
  12. The lettering on the water tank? As I recall, some assistant artist sometimes inked backgrounds during the bronze age. He would spell out "Backgrounds by _______ (whatever his name was)", on background signs, but you would only ever see a few letters at a time in any one panel. You had to read all the comics that month to figure out the message.
  13. If you live in southern Ontario, please be advised that L.A. Mood in London has recently purchased a complete run of ASM. I just picked up issue 42 in vf condition. They have a low grade number 1 for $800. The Steve Ditko issues looked to be in low to mid condition. Later silver and early bronze are vf/nm.
  14. Graders Notes: Interested, interested. Very interested, very interested. And then suddenly I lost all interest in the magazine, about 2/3 of the way through.
  15. I ceased buying comics around ASM #170. How much longer did Ross Andru stay with the book? Who replaced him on ASM? And did Andru retire at that point or did he go to another book?
  16. Those are some awesome Gil Kane Defenders covers, that convinced a lot of kids like me to buy the that was contained in the interior!
  17. "I was waiting to take group shots when I had built a little better collection of Silver Age books but it's slow going with my focus on a bronze age key set so you will just have to bare with me" Everybody get naked!
  18. Of course, as soon as I post that message, I find a nice copy in a Montreal comic store!
  19. Is it just my corner of the world, or is ASM #132 (the first 25 cent issue) rather difficult to find in nice shape?
  20. Is JLA #102 scarce? I have spent years trying to find a NM copy of what Overstreet says is a very ordinary issue, but I have yet to see one in respectable shape. Is it just my bad luck, or have others found 102 to be a hard to get issue compared to say 101 and 103?
  21. Q: If someone uses a soft eraser to remove soiling from white areas on the front or back cover, does that create any traces that can be seen? eg., under UV light?
