  1. So I was at golden age collectibles in Seattle and I saw one of the “wall books” was this Stan Lee signed FF 46 (1st inhumans). It was graded VG+ and obviously I’d need to take a closer look two questions before I go prying.

what would a $600 raw book need to truly be post grading to make it worth that tag? If not what’s a fair value for a VG/VG+

the signature is a great looking Stan Lee sig and I’ve sadly sold my Stan sigs a while ago. It does look accurate and the owner says it’s from a customer who went to ECCC (photo evidence but you never can trust that imo).

what does this mean for the books value, green label right ?  would it count against the book if say I got another sig and it became a Yellow/Green slab?

lastly I’m not the best Judging low grade raw SA. what should I look out for, what should I ask about - and with negotiating (I’ve done this on slabs and lots) how do you really drive your price closer to a happy medium ?

(ohhh and anyway to tell if it’s Ben pressed and cleaned - is a book this old and signed even a candidate)?

The Boys is an interesting one - because I really like the show and think it's well done, but it doesn't really seem like it's done a ton to boost value in the books that much...

Those Kirkham variants/reprints seem to do well - I think the problem is not enough data points to judge by. I would like to know how they do at cons particularly ones where the shows guests also are there. Also I have no memory of boys prices before the show tbh. I saw a 9.8 just sold for 250

Is this 2011-2021 thinking or is there still action like this in the market? I went back on these boards a couple of weeks ago, but have not dipped back into buying or selling online for a while

Times are a changing with the arms race between all the streaming services. Especially when it comes to Amazon and Prime video they are just printing money for their content production - I have heard an anecdote about Bezos saying their movies and shows aren’t judged based on viewership but on their ability to get new Amazon prime sign ups or retention.

Heck if they’ve made the most expensive tv series to date with Rings org Power, paid 11 billion for Thursday Night Football, brought Paper Girls and Invincible to screen (and made Invicible 1 skyrocket).

Just look at The Boys - which was optioned way back around 2008 and just stuck in development hell originally with Adam McKay attached for a movie. Amazon gets the rights in Novbember of 2017 and they go to production by 2018.

I do see this coming to fruition - whether it sticks the landing and does well enough or is good enough to help bring the books prices up higher is tbd.

  4. I used to order Comic Boxer from Stadium Comics in Canada and it would always be a great selection including well curated new issues from the big 2, often variants, a limited store exclusive often signed, and at times some sold out indies or modern keys that they set aside for the box so it would fill in a lot of books I missed.

Haven’t seen any unboxing videos from ppl for any thing in ages, no response from their email either

anyone have any monthly subscription/mystery boxes they like?  I know that there’s a lot of bad boxes out there but for a fair cost I do like getting some comics each month that give me something to read, or a copy to save, turn me on to new books and give a little value.

I’ve seen YouTube unboxing for a bunch of YouTubers but they seem to be high end and curated - and then a few not so great pretty obviously randomly filled boxes with maybe one ratio or store variant.

And yes I know just buy the books I want - i still go to NCBD each week.

Hi.  Here's an example of one.  Older slab.  CGC Signature Series.  It was a signing through Celebrity Authentics and they attach their hologram authentication sticker on all their items.  You can see the sticker at the top right corner next to CGC's hologram sticker.  I would prefer to upgrade the slab to the newer one but my only hesitancy is does Celebrity Authentics' hologram sticker add any value?  Just wondering what other CGC SS celebrity autograph collectors thought?

I would say no… if it came with a COA with pictures or info of the signing or one of the newer QR code Holograms that took you to the registry then yes. But again as someone seeing this in sports cards the grade/auto authentication by cgc is the top tier of importance.

Comic cards just look better in. Cgc cases!

  7. Get those in some penny sleeeves and top loaders please. Those kind of binders are akin to storing comics with unclosed bags or no boards.

amazon has them standard size card top loaders and sleeves. Bcw ultra pro are solid brands.

I might skip grading depending on the quality of the surfaces - in a lot of cases ppl will take raw cards over cards graded if they are 8 or lower because they believe they have a shot at a Gem Mint grade.

Hi all.  I was hoping to get your opinion on a matter/question.  I have a couple of CGC SS books that were done through Celebrity Authentics that are in the older slabs.  Those slabs have Celebrity Authentics' Hologram authentication sticker.  I would like to upgrade the slabs to the newer ones but I doubt the Hologram sticker  will be transferred to the new slab.  My question then - is it worth upgrading the slab while losing the Hologram authentication sticker?  The books will still be CGC SS and I will still have the photo (COA).  I am not sure how much (more) value the Hologram authentication sticker brings to a CGC SS book (for other items, yes I can see the value).  Anyways - thoughts anyone?

Could you show a picture of the slab/hologram sticker. I’m a bit confused. I’ve seen slabs with an extra Authenticator a sticker for b on it - not sure why as it was yellow label.

It happens with sports signed cards or memorabilia sometimes where there is 3 levels of authentication which I find silly. First the card company (topps, upper deck, panini) guarantees true signature, usually written on the back of the card. Then it will be graded with autograph grading:authentication. Finally got some reason someone got a 3rd company to verify it as authehtic. The only time I see merit in the last step is if it’s game used and they can verify this through a number of techniques.

idk Hollywood authentics but to me a yellow slab means this is absolutely the genuine article and signature. Everything else isn’t needed - at least for me.

Now if it was a green label then yeah id consider wanting the extra set of guarentee.  These were witnessed I assumed right?

I see that CGC does not list ECCC 2023 under their 'Events' section, but back on Dec 12, 2022, ECCC tweeted the post below, and just today, they updated their exhibitor list stating that CGC will be at booth 20911.

Hi.  Sadly, I didn't meet him.  I actually sent the books in to a facilitator to get signed.  I am hoping to meet him one day though.

Here’s to hoping he gets cast in many more things now.  There’s some comic characters I’d love to see him take on.

  12. Hey guys first time trying this - if I mess anything up please let me know. I don’t yet have a kudos thread - in order to build up the trust I’d be happy to ship and be paid upon delivery - if this is allowed and you are in good standing.

    No probation or HOS

$8 priority envelope shipping for US buyers. If you would prefer a Priority box, it is $16. Combined shipping when possible

Shipping at cost otherwise internationally, I will enter the dimensions and weight and provide a quote from Fed Ex. I will refund overpayments (thumbsu

Payment through Paypal, Venmo G&S or Zelle please.

Returns accepted if I severely messed up the grade - I am not close to a professional grader but if you feel the book has arrived less than acceptable I’d like to work something out or refund wholly or partially. Return shipping required.

(In cases where I’m shipping before receiving payment via good will building - I am trusting no one will take advantage and keep books and claim damage.)

Congrats on getting an Ash commission. I would preface before answering your questions is that you should be comfortable with your decision and enjoy your commission. You'll be the one looking at it when completed. I feel that everyone in this sketch room has different non-negotiables and preferences on their sketches. For example if I would ask for a commission, I would want it to be of a Spider-Man character on a Spider-Man comic. Others may want Spider-Man and Scooby-Doo since they collect commissions of Scooby-Doo . Also Ash has done a lot of commissions, use his expertise when finalizing your commission.

    A) There aren't a lot of key comics that have a blank version. I know ASM (1st app of Cindy Moon) does not have a blank comic. So you aren't spending that much time of the blank comic, I would find out from Ash what their intention is with the title of the comic. Are they going to paint over it or just use the blank space below it? This will give you an idea of which type of blank comic to get.

    B) Putting value of a sketch cover done on a "key" comic can be difficult to determine. Like mentioned, everyone has an opinion of sketches on traditional covers. There will be some that be interested in that and others will be disgusted that you did that. It's similar to people who have artists/writers sign comics.

Cheers ivy - perfectly answered I’ll speak with ash more! Can’t wait to share this piece with everyone if it all works out.

    1.  Events listed under the drop down menu are events being held at CGC headquarters or private signing where CGC will be present.

    2. Events/cons where CGC has a presence you will have to visit the CGC booth and arrange a witness to be present at the time your book is signed and follow all necessary steps thereafter.

    3. Find a CGC authorized facilitator attending the show.  Not all shows will be represented.

    Thank you

  15. I recently found the CGC Signature Series private signing and event calendar and just had a few questions.

It’s been ages since I’ve been to a con, probably around 7 years - and I remember having to plan ahead to find a facilitator/witness if CGC had a booth or not. I enjoyed getting to meet creators and the great staff but it all was a blur having been so long ago.

I totally get how the private signings work, my question is for the events listed does that mean CGC will have a facilitator/witness present and on-site submission for books? I assume the ones listed on the events page would have the ability to get signed books witnessed and on the road to Yellow Label slabs? I’m assuming this is also for people physically attending the event

Or will we still need to find a facilitator or witness to come to the event even if it’s listed as having CGC presence?

Lastly what is our best course of action for conventions not on that list that we plan to attend.

Apologies for the long winded post.

  17. A bit of a double post but I’m commissioning Ash Gonzales for a pretty cool - spidey meets celeb cover that I am really excited to put together. Think it may just be a 1 of 1 in terms of the signer not sure.

I naturally want the artist to use the blank they feel most comfortable with - Ash mentioned liking card stock (mentioned the following Harley Quinn blank as being extra nice). I ofc would love to have some sort of ASM/SPIDEY book blank just to have the slab read Spider-Man or ASM.

    A) does anyone know if the ASM 1 (the reboot with Cindy Moon cameo), or any of the recent “key” facsimile’s are on glossy paper or card stock?

    B) Is there any value in having a sketch cover done on a “key” cover vs something unrelated. I see there’s even a UF4 facsimile blank. (Tbh - I don’t like facsimiles)
