This platform wasn’t around last time I was in the hobby. Been in a few streams grabbed a modern variant pack to see how it all worked. Was a pretty good transaction but it is hard to see the quality of books through the stream and phone screen.
I’m wondering what others experiences have been? I’ve seen some streams that are just fire sales of modern variants with some aggressive pricing but a few cool sellers who make good conversation - give honest assessment/grading close up looks and are selling from their personal collection.
I do like the interactive part of it but the sudden death auctions make it hard to think things over imho

Read an article where they say they still plan on putting out books?

Like the sentiments going around, the market may soon be flooded with "affordable" McFarlane, so bide your time on the one you want.
It wasn't an in person auto, so it "could" have the same sentimental value to buy one slabbed ? I hope, it's on an individual basis.
Lol at cons he is only does raw in personal raw sigs, mostly. He is very personable and would still be "fun" just not signature series.
100% my plan. Have some saved eBay searches and hoping there is some undercutting or auctions at the right price.
also feeling like going after non 9.8’s from this signing might be the play for me.

McFarlane was mine but I missed the goat on that.
celeb wise:Would love the chance to get Toby, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield on one book.
Also as a huge fan of the HBO Max Harley Quinn show, Kaley Cucou would be cool.

Anyone seen the Barnes and Noble copies ? I don’t store near me but can’t imagine these are in good shape with the kids and others reading them at the store.
also seeing a bit of a tear on the back upper right corner top of spine on many copies - anyone else noticing this?

Getting tickets for ECCC in March - will there be any cgc presence or people who can help with SS books?
Also how does that process work I’m new to the in person SS game

Looking over the various variants im definitely going to just get the art that appeals most to me. Trying to go after the most scarce or a complete run from an artist or 1A seems like it’s gonna be a no from me.

Sweet books. PM sent!

The story is really great.
But in terms of variants, sketch covers and keys...
I bet my left leg that 10 years from now no one will care about 99% of the the variants, sketch covers and keys from the series. If you like the collecting aspect and don't care about an expected drop in value in the long term, you'll be fine.
Yeah I’m not hoping for a walking dead type spec or even invincible - I simply like to get a few nice 9.8s of moderns that really captured my interest.
Have a nice amount of Lazarus variants, East of West, We Are Never Going Home - that I just keep in the slab pile. It’s usually for the same books I invest in the HC or deluxe collected editions of as well sort of thing.

Man oh man are there a lot of store exclusives for 16…. I’m probably going to just go by the art I like for that one. Might have to piece together a few copies over time. Paralysis of too much choice. Also print runs seem to be a bit of a guessing game on those ?

Custom labels have the notes on the back.
Any terms I try to use to accurately describe people who value label notes will be censored here.
Hahaha totally get you on the second point.

1st and 6th print are some of the most desirable covers. Many like the black cape variant and the NYCC variant. But the most valuable #1 is the ALA Midwinter 2020 Edition.
The link below shows other keys. I also like #16 the comic book dealer edition (1st full Jessica Slaughter and Origin of Erica Slaughter).
https://comicbookinvest.com/2021/02/15/the-something-is-killing-the-children-list/
6th print ? That’s interesting! Is it due to a low print run ?
Will check out the other covers.
With the Jenny Frisson variant, how many versions are there and why the huge gap in prices? -

Hey guys
Ive recently gotten into Something is Killing the Children via trades and I really want to grab a #1 and some keys.
1) in terms of first issue what are the most desirable covers, is 1st Print A the general go to?
2) any other essential keys ?

Current Turnaround (working days)5 days
question is when your package arrives and when cgc opens the package..be sure to mark it express on the outside of the box
Thanks - I would fed ex overnight it.

Probably a stupid question - but if I were to submit a book for grading at a high tier would it have any shot at making it back in time to be a Christmas gift for my brother?

I sent my asm 300 in hopen that i could press it into a 9.2... which it got.
I was thrilled. This was my personal copy that i got and read as a kid. By my estimation it was 8.5 to 9.0 range before pressing.
Would i like it to be 9.8, sure... but it wasnt in the cards. i wont be selling it either. It can sit next to my cgc 9.2 newstand copy of asm 300.
I will say i gambled on spawn #1. I have 4 copies. A cgc 9.8, a cgc ss 9.8, the loose copy i got in 1992 to read and the loose copy i got in 1992 to save.
Sent in my saved copy in hopes of 9.8. Thought it would get it based on the criteria, but i second guessed myself alot and more than once, thought i shoulda sent in the cgc 9.8 to crack open.
Worked out in the end. Im happy with my $300 ish cost
Love that story - I have an ASM 300 9.0 that’s similar though not signed. congrats on the turnout on the spawns man!

Ya he skipped last year, but he did do the year before, I wouldn't doubt there being another opportunity. Lord willing and if his writing hand holds up, in hundreds of not thousands of books at this event.
I also wouldn't doubt some coming to market at comfortable prices, there were so many, and if you're comfortable with something less than 9.8.
Welcome to the boards!
Oh yeah personally with Signed books of creators I really like ill take a 9.2-9.6 any day for the price.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

After years away from comics outside of trades have been slowly building back up my collection. Seen some cool new things since I was last collecting like these private signings. Quite bummed on just missing our T Mac.
anyways looking forward to chatting books and shooting the breeze.
