  1. It's time for our annual "keep your day job basketball game" Time: 8:00AM Friday, August 25th (Usually goes to 10:30 or so) Place: Rosemont Health And Fitness (A couple of miles away but you will need an Uber for sure) 10225 W Higgins Rd. Des Plaines IL 60018 (847) 698-2582 Cost: $20 (CASH ONLY!) $15 if you are able to present a hotel room key (all hotels qualify). Need a room key for each player present to qualify for the discount. Details: You must have a photo ID. No exceptions. You must be 16 as of 8/25/17 As evidenced by our previous games, no skill required. Alex, Austin and I are all in. Post here or PM me if you can make it.
  2. Our show was much like Bob's. Pretty horrific. We had a 30's something couple in the booth. Wife begins massaging her temples. Walks around a few minutes. There is no where to hide from the endless supply of incessant cover bands butchering yet another song. Every one of them played non-stop as they literally had a captive audience. I fantasized often about how much $$$ it would take to shut them up! She to her husband "sorry, this is supposed to be fun, we need to leave". And off they went. $0 in sales from them. Other comments we heard throughout the show. Customer: How much is the Hulk #181? Me: $3400. Customer: $400? I'll have to think about it. To be fair, he could hardly hear me above the din. If it weren't for 3 customers who would meet me on the side of the highway, it would've been our 2nd worst show ever. At the end of the day, Wizard is going to do what it thinks is best for Wizard. I get that. What I don't get is creating an atmosphere that is totally retailer unfriendly. Why are selling comic books and all of the other garbage mutually exclusive? It reminded me very much of walking down the midway at the county fair complete with hucksters and carnival barkers. I feel badly for Peter Katz and Em Wengel, both of whom have been great to me and both of whom I consider friends. There is a 0% chance we would go back to Philly in it's current format. And it's 2 hours door to door. A true shame, one of our favorite cities on the tour and it used to be a top 5 show for us. Best to all, Greg
  3. We scan every book, front /back cover and we do not dial up any of the scan settings: reececomics.com
  4. ebay user: prepaypete Orders a book today. Requests to cancel order. Should change his handle to nopaypete
  5. C2E2 2017 was an all time record show for us. We sold a TOS #39 CGC 9.2 and would've broken our sales record without it. Crowds were massive and they came to buy! C2E2 is clearly becoming the #1 show in Chicago and is easily a top 5 show nationally. As to being afraid to grade on site, just not the case. When you grade 3500-4000 books a year you can't just throw $5-$10 a book or more away because you want instant gratification. That is a very expensive habit. I felt grading was in line with what I've seen the last 2-2 1/2 years. Best to all, Greg
  6. ebay user: reliable-sales-2012 This was for an X-Men #149. "Please cancel this order, I was under the impression that this is a pre first appearance of magneto. I see now were he came in in the 60's. Sorry for any trouble. Thanks"
  7. There is a seemingly unending supply of irresponsible people. $80 book. ebay user ID: steindogy "I am so I harassed to have to send this email , I need to cancel this order if at all possible I was in a real good place this afternoon but on the way home had a fender bender and now am having to pay a lot of money and just can't afford this as much as I would love to get it. Thank you very much for your time and understanding."
  8. They could be that stupid. It's being that stupid and having $150,000 that's the hard part.
  9. I am with Bob on this and am amazed that anyone could have the time to reprice inventory for cons. Every book on our website is available at any con at the exact same price. Hard enough keeping up with processing new material.
  10. Hi all, I'm looking forward to attending the inaugural Elite Con. While I won't be setup, if there is something you'd like to see, please PM me and I can have it shipped down. I will also be actively buying so please lmk of anything you might have for sale. I will be there Saturday night and all day Sunday. Best, Greg
  11. ebay user: live2collect "Hi, I found a better price for this book on eBay after I made the offer. Apologies for the inconvenience! :-/"
  12. ebay user: edmo197042 "i am writing to you to explain that i received a large bill on monday and to ask if i could retract my offer as i now can't afford it.thanks danny."
  13. ebay user: ehjjon4 "Man, I am beyond sorry but this person was not suppose to bid on this. 100% on me and I apologize, but that was a mistake. I know that was frustrating but if there is anyway to remove it I would greatly appreciate it. Once again I am very sorry"
  14. ebay user: wavesynthe84-9 Bid up a $900 item. No payment. No response. Total deadbeat.
  15. And the hits keep coming. What a Monday. Granted it is slightly better than waiting for the auction to end but he needed someone (whoever that may be?) to tell him he didn't have the $$? Good gravy! ebay user ID: dablundel0 "Unfortunately I would like to retract my bid as I've just been told I do not have sufficient funds to make the purchase as there are six or seven hours still are you would like somebody else to purchase this item what can I do to make this less of an inconvenience for you Daniel"
  16. Greg, you must have enough material for a book by now. I know I am going to keep my eye on the NYT best seller's list for the forthcoming novel, "Dear Greg Reece, I'm an insufficiently_thoughtful_person: Tales from the eBay Trenches". Ha-ha. I probably do. It's not incredible there are insufficiently_thoughtful_persons in the world, it's incredible there are an unending supply of them.
  17. ebay user ID: nunsong-i Clearly labeled CGC 8.0 "hi, please cancel this. I thought it was an 8.5 thank you"
  18. ebay user ID: rubbersoul1989 canceled order and blocked "So. I already paid because I thought I was stuck with it. But someone told me it was worth asking, I thought I offered 42 after making offers. I know it was a really dumb mistake. But. It's worth a shot asking, is it too late to cancel this order? I know. Really dumb. I know it's easy to refund things on paypal. If you could understand that'd be great.. I'm also from MD! As much as that counts for.. Which is nothing. But hoping you can work with me. I will give you a few dollars for the listing fee or something if you can help me out. Sorry for inconvenience and stupidity on my part. Thanks for your hopeful understanding."
  19. ebay user ID: artiedoom3 "Hi there, sorry been away so long, I am not going to be able to pay for your your graded hulk and xfactor comic. If you can cancel the order that will be great. Sorry for the inconvenience."
  20. Sorry I wasn't as clear as I should have been. I am referring to the $$$ spent at auction houses by dealers. If we are will to pay ComicLink/Heritage/Comic Connect, etc. a certain price, we would pay you the same. Regardless of the type of vig (commission/buyer premium/etc.), a cut is coming out. Granted, we as dealers don't buy every book that comes at auction, but the total represents a significant chunk each year. And again, no waiting for payment (I realize the OP is in no hurry but to some folks that's a nice benefit). Anyway, sounds like a nice set of books. Good luck!
  21. Dealers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars per year with all of the auction houses listed in this thread. You get 100% of what books may hammer at instead of 90% and you get immediate payment with no risk of the vagaries of auction. Try us, Bob Storms, Dale Roberts, Richard Evans, Harley Yee, etc.
  22. ebay user: scootrk Canceled bids in 6 auctions. All under the "enter wrong bid amount" 1 auction? I would understand. 6? Go thrill bid somewhere else.
  23. Slightly OT but I'd recommend adding a column with tracking #'s once an order has shipped in the dealer portal when "view invoices" is clicked. I'd imagine this would save CGC countless calls/e-mails. Best, Greg
  24. ebay user: chris14jc-9 "Hey please put this back up for sale I was trying to make offer and somehow committed to buy .sorry thanks"
