  1. I've come to the conclusion that just because there are few on the census doesn't mean anything with these books. People just don't send them in. Most of my Bakers are raw.
  2. Hard to believe anyone would send in a 0.5
  3. I thought I'd repost mine. Bought it in the late nineties from my LCS. The store's owner, a self- described comic expert, did not know the significance of the writing. I explained after paying for the comic.
  4. sweet added to the want list!! is this a Schomburg cover I can't make out the notes on label? It is not Schomburg. It probably says Tarpe Mills story and art. thanks man!!! just confirming... so is it correct that Tarpe did the covers then for #2-4 and Alex the covers for #1 & #5-8? they are all really cool!! I use to own a copy. I'm sure it's a Schomburg cover. Tarpe Mills did the interior.
  5. Did you get this from Tomorrow's Treasures?
  6. One of my favorite Baker covers. Unfortunately, the two copies I have are in "bad" and "really bad" condition. My general attitude is buy any Baker romance regardless of condition that I am missing and then upgrade if at all possible. I have a few coverless and 2/3rd cover copies. So "bad" and "really bad" is quite good. I suspect this is a pretty rare book. I bought the only copy I have ever seen for sale. One of my first BR's. It's a nice mid-grade too, if memory serves me.
  7. I love Cornell Woolrich too. After I became obsessed with Hitchcock films, I started looking for Woolrich writings. His ideas are still fodder for Hollywood.
  8. Nice one! All the elements of a killer romance cover: - hot babe - cool dude - sick art - alcohol & tobacco And the phallic oilpumps in the background.
  9. Thankfully no one I ever went with was interested in my Archie 50.
  10. I'm on very shaky ground in commenting on art, but there doesn't seem to be enough room between the mother and the groom for the groom to appear as small as he does -- particularly given, as you note, he seems large relative the doorway. In addition, our point of view seems odd. We can't be looking at them straight on, unless there are steps behind the mother leading down to the doorway, which would be a pretty unusual layout for a room. I guess we are supposed to be elevated a bit and looking down on them. Maybe there is a way to make sense of it, but it just doesn't seem well composed. I know S&K scored a big hit with this title, but compared to our man Baker, a lot of the art sure seems weak to me. Here's where this drawing fails. We see the ceiling which implies a low angle looking up, which is consistent with the characters, but the table looks like you're looking down on it from an elevation. The doorway should appear lower than the man from a low perspective. That and the table throws the drawing out of whack.
  11. A great story, sounds like the White Mountain story. Do you think you would have gotten a pedigree status if it had played out differently?
  12. I have not received my book yet. I do have a low grade GCE 13 to read and look at, so I will not likely crack this copy. This copy just sat there on Ebay as a buy it now option for awhile, It was driving me crazy until I just had to pull the switch and purchase it. Steep price, but what the heck, you only live once. I stared at it for weeks as well. Very conflicted as to whether to pull the trigger. Glad you took that decision away from me.
  13. Worst place for a tape pull I've ever seen.
  14. For $100.00 you can't go wrong. My mailperson use to fold envelopes when they could. My TR 43 still has the "sub" crease.
  15. One supposes a warehouse find. I got my high grade copy off ebay years ago from a fellow boardie, for (gulp) $30.00.
  16. Whoa! I think that's the first copy I've seen. Tough book. Rarely pops up. I get offers on my copy, but always turn them down.
  17. I noticed that myself. Should be interesting to see what it goes for.
  18. It was a photo of this very copy that was used in the 10th ED of the Overstreet Price Guide, in the cover gallery. Kinda neat, huh? You have an historic copy of CL 25. Did not know. Thanks for the info.
  19. I paid a lot for the 25, but it was the last one I needed and I wanted a nice copy. Finding these 6 issues took years. Each issue is impressive on its own, but taken together they are a testament to the talent of Baker. More powerful than any superhero, is the power of Baker Romance.
  20. Now I can post my Cinderella Love group shot.
  21. Very nice, indeed. Just a great acquisition. I thought, maybe, you might have this book already. I think everybody thought so. I was biding my time for the right one.
  22. Thanks Dr. Love. Coming from you that's high praise.
