I thought this was worth a mention.
While I am not a Lady Death collector (and have never read one) I do quite enjoy the fantastic job they have been doing with all their homage covers and picked a small number off eBay.
I liked these covers so much I decided to place an order from Coffin Comic’s own online store. I ordered about 15 homage books. A couple days later I received an email saying one of the books was out of stock and I was being refunded for that one book but the rest of my order was still going through. I was a bit disappointed as the Hulk Annual 1 homage cover was neat plus had a print run of only a 150 or so copies (meaning the books on eBay are over priced). Plus with overseas shipping getting as many books at once is important to me.
I received the books today and was very surprised that they included a free book with a cover limited 99 titled “Sorry We Effed Up”.
I was really impressed by this and thought they went above and beyond with doing this.
We spend a lot of time complaining about publishers and sellers so I thought that this case of someone doing something nice was worth highlighting.
For those interested here is the cover. It is a girlie pin-up cover not a homage cover.- Raze and oldmilwaukee6er

Ouch. That is harsh. Zellers might have been the lower end of the Bay stores but K-Mart level. Ouch.
I have many a good childhood memory of rifling through the hockey card packs at Zellers and Bi-rite. Zellers always had the 3 packs of comics too. Got my 10 nights of the beast Batman out of them.

I am going to do my happy dance now. Pretty cool to know this is actually happening now.

Hopefully the next 9.8 will not come up for sale for another year or two so things can start trending upwards again. This book has what looks to be a spine tick that you could see when you zoom in on the hi-res image. That alone kept me from bidding on this book, and I assume others may have noticed as well, hence the lower hammer. Otherwise I would have taken it past $20k.

I noticed that too when I was studying the scans. Made me happy that I bought the second ComicLink copy instead of going after the one on Heritage

I would generally temd to agree with this comment, especially if you are referring to CGC highest graded copies of books from the more common BA to CA time periods, as CL is the go to auction house of choice for the CGC label chasers.
Agree, although I wouldn’t refer to Albedo 2 as a more common book with only 2,000 copies printed originally.

Sorry I’m a little late to the game with Albedo 2. Could someone explain to me why it’s become soo 🔥 🔥 🔥? I mean I get the print numbers were super low, like 2K run if I recall. Other than that any other reason?
Because it is the first appearance of Usagi Yojimbo and Usagi Yojimbo is awesome and next to the Barks ducks likely the best anthromorphic comic character in history (with TMNT running third).

Pssst...The most expensive modern Baseball card & most expensive VINTAGE/modern Basketball card is in a....BGS holder!
You did see where I said “Beckett grades a ton of modern stuff but anything before the trading card boom is done by PSA. If done by Beckett you can likely assume it was a card cut from a sheet. ”
The numbers don’t lie PSA has graded many many multiples the amount of pre-boom cards than Beckett. Beckett focuses on modern cards.

Yes and the story is above for those who are interested. (The trimmer did spend 20 month in jail due to his shady practices). There are plenty of people trying to get by all the grading companies in each hobby and there are too many stories of those who do.
Is PSA perfect - no. But neither is Beckett or CGC or PSE. All are legitimate though.
-
PSA still rains supreme. Beckett screwed themselves when they said they would grade cards laser cut from sheets by collectors. Beckett also screwed themselves with their crazy big card holders. The space 3,000 PSA cards take up would likely be less than a 1,000 Beckett holders.
Beckett grades a ton of modern stuff but anything before the trading card boom is done by PSA. If done by Beckett you can likely assume it was a card cut from a sheet.
I have a massive amount of PSA cards and I don’t see CGC making in roads into sports. I will be avoiding them.
It would be cool if they focused on non-sport cards as I think PSA/Beckett could be taken over in that segment of the market.

These painted covers are beautiful and man these might be the cheapest silver age comics out there. Are the stories any good, I never heard of this guy.
Are you in for a treat if this is new to you. Solar and Magnus launched Valiant back in the 90’s. Pre-Unity and Unity Valiant are among the best ever stories put out. Remember when Valiant launched and it, along with Image, was giving Marvel and DC a run for their money. In fact Valiant had at least one month when it outsold DC.
These Solar covers are from the pre-Valiant Day

I can’t tell you how much I recommend Magnus and Solar.

There is a short story inside. Since it was very short and had few words on each page I spent the 129 seconds it took to read it. The story is not great.
Summary is Hardlee goes to “DC” comics only to find out her title has been canceled as readers only want to read about female characters who look anorexic and not voluptuous like Hardlee. This causes her to become very mad and appear to go about killing off all of “DC”’s star female characters so she will be able to keep her title. When confronted about her killing spree it turns out Hardlee didn’t kill them but rather took them to a buffet where the characters enjoy being able to eat food once again. As they are no longer stick thin Hardlee gets her series back.
Not sure if this is the only story beneath each Hardlee Thinn cover or not. As it appears they have been publishing the number #1 for years I hope not otherwise they should be 2nd to 50th prints.
All I want to know is how many action figure covers there are (and to acquire the ones I do not have for my action figure collection).

No I do not think it is in this case. I agree with the above poster on that point.
Counterpoint does make it very confusing

Given how many covers they have someone must be buying them. Help an action figure cover collector out and let me know the checklist of them. (I know nothing about Hardlee Thinn outside of the mock Star Wars covers. -
I am hoping that someone can help me out here as I do not collect Counterpoint Comics or their Hardlee Thinn title. What I do collect is all action figure covers and Hardlee Thinn had action figures for issue #1. Thus I am trying to find a complete list of the variants. There are quite a few of them just for the action figures (and it seems like an endless list of #1 variants for this issue).
I have found:
1)Bespin Gown - Normal cover (out of 30). Have
2)Bespin Gown - Normal cover (DF). No idea what DF means or how limited it is. Have
3)Bespin Gown - Chrome Cover (out of 10) Have
4)Bespin Gown - Chrome Cover AP (out of 10?) Have
5)Ace Comic Con - Slave - Normal cover (out of 30). Have
6)Ace Comic Con - Slave - Normal cover AP (out of ?). I do not have but this does not appear to be Chrome from the photo. Appears to be different than the cover below it.
7)Ace Comic Con - Slave - Chrome AP (out of 10?). Do not have. Appears to be different from the above but I am not sure if they are the same)
8)Ace Comic Con - Slave - Chrome (out of 10) Have
My questions are:
1) What covers am I missing? Would there be a DF regular cover for the Ace Comic Con? If 6 and 7 are indeed different covers is there an AP version of the regular non-Chrome Bespin Gown cover
2) Are slots 6 and 7 different books or are they the same book?

I'd think it will look similar to the record market of today. There will be some key books that will hold their value but most (98%) books will decrease in value to the point they are just garage sale fodder. There will be a small niche group that buy new comics and maintain a large collection of books but the days of old will probably never happen again in terms of books sold. The younger resellers (flippers) will take a beating at some point and not look back when they move on to other means of making quick cash. I'm sure there will be spotty increases in demand (like records do every now and then) but comics should become an obsolete medium (paper reading material) that will only be enjoyed by a few people.
This is my view too. I am fairly pessimistic about the value of books outside of keys in the next 25-40 year time frame.
That likely means that the books I am heavily collecting like VEI incentive covers and Rosa ducks and the like are probably poor investments. I have always viewed my interest in comics as a hobby and not a money making venture so I buy what I like, not what I think will appreciate the most.

2) Harbinger (2012) 1 Chinese Edition - 2028585003. I am confused why it cannot have its own slot. There were two Chinese editions of Valiant books released at a media event three years after the books they reprinted were released. They have different covers from the regular issues and are the two most expensive and desired Valiant issues since the 2012 relaunch. The other book - Bloodshot 1 - Chinese edition has its own slot in the registry (although it should be more than 24 points - but that is a discussion for another thread). Why can't Harbinger 1 Chinese edition have its own slot as well. I am attaching a snippet from the registry showing Bloodshot 1 - Chinese edition being separate from Bloodshot 1, the regular Harbinger 1 cover (from 2012) and the Harbinger 1 Chinese (from 2015) If there is a demand for it as well as a decent volume graded, you can request a foreign edition set for a particular run or publisher. Creating a separate slot for a foreign edition can open a can of worms for our collectors as this would allow German/French/Mexican/Etc editions to be included in all sets if applicable. Unfortunately, you will find inconsistencies for this issue (as the registry has been around for a while and has had many admins) it is a gray area but I hope to clear that up soon with more concrete guidelines.
Matt - Again thanks for all the hard work you have done on putting up the Valiant books.
I completely agree that it would be very annoy if foreign editions of titles were mixed in with regular series in most cases. If I was collecting the Amazing Spider-man I would not want the 1969 Amazing Spider-man series sold in Spain to be mixed in with its registry set as they are obviously very different runs.
Valiant Entertainment does not sell overseas foreign language versions of its comics. It has done 4 comics in a language other than English, but they are not foreign editions. It published a comic staring Rai with a Japanese incentive edition since the main character is Japanese. The Valiant #1 , which I mentioned in a post above, had a French incentive edition for an event Valiant was doing in Quebec.
The two Chinese books, Bloodshot 1 (which is in the Registry) and Harbinger 1 (which is what I am asking to add) were published to commemorate and announce when DMG, a Chinese company, bought shares of Valiant Entertainment in 2015 (and last year they became the majority shareholder). These two Chinese language books remain among the hottest Valiant and most expensive Valiant books. The Top 10 May 2020 Valiant books has Harbinger #1 Chinese edition as the hottest book and Bloodshot #1 Chinese edition as #3 ( http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53325 ). No master set of Harbinger or Bloodshot would be considered complete without these two incentive books by any of the major Valiant collectors. As it is an incentive cover and not a book found on foreign newsstands I hope you can reconsider and add Harbinger 1 Chinese edition to the registry. Had DMG not become involved with Valiant their likely would not have been the Bloodshot movie (although whether DMG's involvement since becoming majority shareholder of Valiant has been positive is a topic much has been written about).

1 Editions Heros/Canadian EditionMatt, first thank you so much for adding all the covers. I really appreciate it and I know Valiant books can be especially confusing as so many of them seem to have a dozen different covers.I do have a few questions though about the remaining books though.1) 4001 A.D. 1 ComicsPro Edition - 1344520002 - I think this one was missed@david20009 we had to adjust this one in the system as it was labeled as 4001 and not 4001 A.D. 1 Rai One Dollar Debut - 2016 Edition - 0278879012 I reached out to our graders to see if we need to make an adjustment as both of your books are listed as the 1/16 issue in our systemThese are different books from different years. I am attaching scans of the two books.
4) The Valiant
1 Editions Heros/Canadian Edition - 1447972011 Book added to existing #1 slot books. The Valiant #1 has a few different store/convention variants and this is another store/convention variant cover. It has a unique cover from all the other Valiant #1's. It should have its own slot. I am attaching a scan of the cover. Same as aboveIt can be terribly complicated to be a Valiant fan.
